Just reached the first main settlement.

Is it safe to sell amber, opal, et al to make rupees? I'm sitting at 0 rupees currently.

Shit, filling the Hyrule Compendium could take over a hundred hours itself.
Photographing every item, weapon, animal, monster, etc in the game?
I hope the rewards are good.
I don't think I'd ever succeed at it considering I killed
one of the boss ganons
and never got a photo, and I bet there's some odd one of a kind monster in the most annoying to get to nook ever that will elude all capture

Yo every moment of this game so far is a delight. I just got off the plateau and had deliberately not zoomed out the map until I got the glider.

Jesus.
Yep, I just had this moment as well. Wow.

After telling myself for months that I'd wait until Christmas before getting a Switch, I'm glad I gave in yesterday.

This is the best game I have played in some time. Biggest complaint: not having more comprehensive button re-mapping. I am not playing with the setup I would have chosen for myself.

Other than that: Magic and dreams.

I've been playing for a good number of hours, and the game is awesome. I've died a lot of times, but I feel like I'm always learning something new. I just wish the framerate wasn't so bad.

I've had a good number of drops so far, and they really take me out of the experience. The civilian areas like villages and stables are especially bad.

Okay everyone.

I hopped off the Plateau, found a horse, rode straight to Hyrule Castle, and after much patience and cunning, made it all the way inside to the end. Aonuma was not lying. (I can see now that some badass players are totally going to have fun trying to speed-run this game). I also climbed (Hyrule Castle spoilers, obviously)
to the very tip top spire of the castle for a Korok seed

I had to stop playing to say this is the greatest game Nintendo has ever made.

My early venture into Hyrule Castle was enough to justify buying this game. I haven't even played the rest of the damn game yet.

Hold me.

I'm assuming that there is no digital manual for the game? I haven't been able to find anything anywhere.

This game is going to take so many hours of my life. I've spent like 4 hours and have only completed 2 shrines in the plateau. Felt like I missed so many things too. Good thing my son pointed out some obvious stuff I missed.

Tell me if this looks weird or not. concept design. I'm thinking about turning my display case for amiibo into a display just for my Master Sword statue, and maybe add a few Zelda amiibo in there. I would print at Fedex some tree graphics and place them in the back. Maybe on the front side as well, to block the Nike logo. I'm also thinking about adding a plug in puck light at the top, angled. How I can get that puck light to stay I don't know.

So I have a question, does this game ever give you an in games means to document recipes, or is that entirely up to you? Amazing game so far, really loving it once the initial tutorial phase ended, which was still fun.

It is.

You'll get it from
Impa in Kakariko Village
Alright thanks! I've been exploring for the past 5-6 hours and haven't actually gone and talked to Impa yet.
Here's something I havent personally confirmed, do weapons eventually respawn?
I went to hyrule castle right after I got off the plateau, then the
blood moon thing happened
and I went back and there was another claymore so I think so.

God damn.

Yo what the hell. A Bokoblin just kicked a bomb I dropped right back at me. And I died.

If these bastards are smart I wonder how the rest of the enemies are.

The (very minor hyrule castle spoilers)
3d map
is one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

I wasn't that excited for this game but it's so fucking cool. Just been running around and doing shrines for hours. I usually dislike open world stuff but the level of interactivity here is really incredible.

Smart. What I love about the combat in this game is that enemy difficulty is not only determined their movesets or health. They are part of the same environment and encounters with them will be different every time if you introduce different variables.

Scrub enemies in this game have surprised me more than once even though I had their normal attacks dialed in. I love it. Probably the best enemy AI I have ever seen.

It's probably just me, but I'm having some trouble with the controls. I'm so used to standard 3D Zelda controls, so this is kind of a struggle. I'm even having trouble in menus!

I'm sure I'll get used to them though.

Same here man. I keep dropping everything I pick up instead of throwing because of my habit of double tapping A

I had the same problem. 20+ years of having Zelda controls ingrained into you will do that.

Pressing R to throw a jar is fucking me up SO HARD.

Just watched the first cutscene after The Great Plateau.

That was fucking awesome. It didn't have the best VA but honestly I didnt really mind it. I also loved the
"got item" jingle when you finally receive the Paraglider
.

I am not sleeping tonight.

I struggled a bit too. Before I was off the plateau I was ok, but not optimal.

Just started.. I marked the shrines from the tower.. Do I uhhh just go ? Cause the guy keeps telling me "Having trouble finding them?" yet I marked them?

I loved how after the first shrine, the old dude keeps asking you serious things and your first 2-3 replies are just
"Wheres my glider?"
. Link is just a rude and impatient teenager. The writing is great and I cant wait to start talking to NPCs.

It reminds me most of Resident Evil 4 to be honest. Resi 4's core combat is stronger (and has a few QoL features that I wish BoTW had) of course but the reactivity of the AI, the balancing in how the player moves vs the enemy moves, the mix of environmental strategies, the ability to be creative while still being tense, the strategy in item management etc.

Do what I did...

Light him on fire!

Anyone know where the last

You either missed the one near the shrine or the one on the top of the roof of one of the buildings in the centre of the village.

Don't wait for the game to tell you what to do! You are free to discover and explore.

This game is amazing. Yes, visually it has some technical issues, framerate being the biggest one followed by some really bad IQ as well. Game really deserved much better hardware to be truly something special. With that said however, it is a such a great fucking game. I put in 6 or so hours and did not even realize it. It has been a while since I played a game that long. I am still in the beginning area and still finding hidden things around the world. It is pretty epic.

The other thing that is amazing is just the details in the game and the animation. I came across a camp with 3 bad guys sleeping. They were well animated as they slept and I snuck up to 2 of them and killed them, the 3rd woke up. What was impressive was that the enemy went to the giant log that had the groups spears laying on them to grab his spear before engaging me in combat. There are just so many great little things in this game that makes it epic.

Granted as I stated, visually it wont win any awards for it's technical merit, but the art style, art direction and attention to detail is some of the best and then you add some great game play and it is sublime. I really wish the Switch was a bit more powerful so it could of been presented in 1080p and locked 30fps. I think that alone would of helped with some of the poor IQ. Going from Horizon Zero Down to this and there seems to be a big gulf in visual presentation, but you know what? While I love Horizon, Zelda has me and already played more of it than Horizon. At least the Water in Zelda is better than Horizon Zero Dawn!! lol.

Bottom line: Game is epic!!! Truly an amazing accomplishment and one of the best games I have played in a very long time. Hopefully more performance patches will help smooth things out, but right now I need to go to bed but I want to keep playing.

Oh lastly...game does not explain too much to the player and I wish there was a Recipe list as you discover recipes, you need to have one of what you made to look at the recipe, but if you use the item, unless you memorized the components, you need to try to guess. I also wish there was a playtime clock and a stats screen (unless I am missing it).

Link is sassy. 100 years of sleep and woke up cranky.

Well I pretty much yanked myself from the game, so I can get ready for bed.:P I ended up beating the divine beast in the Lanayru area, which was pretty interesting. Definitely not a traditional dungeon, but still was pretty good to go through.

I then went up in the far northeast corner of the world to find one of the side quests there, and I saw something quite intriguing that was nearby.

Beyond the cliffs looks like some sort of maze that seems to have a shrine in it.

Anyway I freaking love this game. There is so much fun to be had, even in spite of some quirks like some framerate dips. Exploring this beautiful world is so wonderful.

I should do what the game told me to do and head for the first village.

*4 hours later*

I'm still not at the first village. I get distracted way too easily.

I decided to go to central Hyrule first and managed to end up all the way south before working my way back around. I didn't even get a horse till like, thirty minutes ago and I've been playing this all day.

Does anyone know which ingredients count as pink? I have a lot of reddish stuff but none of it seems to qualify for the pink clothes dye.

Wow, it took some getting into but this game is amazing. When the story kicked in I got hooked. And I laughed like a madman when I blew up a big bokoblin camp by lighting my arrow in a campfire and blowing them all up! 😬😬😬

(After I got rekt because I waiting to long with shooting the lit arrow before, so It went out and the measily arrow just alerted them causing them to stampede me 😧)
