Is anybody at all shocked at how good this was. I am a few hours in and I am just floored. I knew what this game was but until I got my hands on it I figured it would just be a behind the times Open World game. The fact that Nintendo hit it out of the park so hard is utterly shocking and on top of that the fact that it may be up there in best game ever made discussions it just feels so out of nowhere to me.

I am just so impressed right now and happy to see Nintendo still gets it.

Are fire arrows not blowing up red barrels for anyone else?

I shoot the red barrels with fire arrows and it burns for a bit, enemies run up and look at it but there is no explosion.

The (very minor hyrule castle spoilers)
3d map
is one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

Agreed. And the music. The FUCKING MUSIC. O_O

The Zelda team just proved to me that they are arguably the most talented game designers in the industry. Yeah, they made some disappointing Zelda games, but that wasn't their limit. They always had this kind of shocking potential locked inside themselves somehow.

So, is there really 900 Korok Seeds? Because if so... fuck me that is a LOT. I've only found 4, even though I have extensively searched as much area as I can.

I'm so addicted. Holy shit this is a dream come true. Wtffff

Anybody that picked up the season pass, do I need to redeem before I start my game? Any benefit to doing so? Also where do the chest appear? I just started my first shrine of that helps

I can totally see how there are 900. I'm never going to try to get them all lol.

I hope the reward is proportionally unbelievable.

Ping ponging between this and horizon zero dawn. It's damn heaven on both games for different reasons. This is why we play games.

As far I'm concerned this is the gold standard for adventure games for years to come. And the DLC will only make the game even better.

This isn't a love child of any game or even a set of games. It's a love child of the industry as a whole.

I'm going to say that I really hate the Rain in this game

Somewhat early spoilers:
Get the Flame. Can't get the Flame while it's raining because the flame goes out. The rain is random.

With what the reward is for gathering Korok Seeds, perhaps collecting them a will give you
unlimited inventory space.
That would be incredible.

Oversight or based Nintendo?

Stop making me want things, damn it!

...not a switch in sight.

I'd say the 3D Mario team is the best there ever is.

Man, I'm so excited for Mario Odyssey, especially after seeing how well BOTW turned out. The holidays can't come soon enough.

Is there any way to full screen photos you take with the slate? Seems odd to have that fuction and not be able to share a clean version of what you take with the Switch sharing button...

Hyperbolic perhaps but this is the greatest and most enjoyable game I've played since Ocarina of Time. Deserves all the love it gets.

So I jumped off the plateau in a random direction and it just so happened to be in the direction of Ganon's Castle.

So I was like you know what, let's fucking do it, and went through Ganon's castle with 3 hearts.

Edit: I'd highly recommend people do the same if they want a good stealth/clmbing challenge. Just stop before the final boss.

Not really spoilers but since it's related to endgame I'll cover it anyway:
Holy fuck stealthing your way through that place is insane. Honestly, doing that place with 3 hearts is the best final dungeon of any Zelda game ever. No second thoughts about that.

I was absolutely terrified the entire time cause aside from the whole place looking scary there's something waiting to kill you around every corner, and just figuring out how to climb up is an amazing puzzle. And the best part is I'm sure there's a million different ways to approach the castle, so next time I come by it'll be like a new experience.

Actually spoilers from here on don't click unless you've finished the game:
So I got to the final boss and wow, it's really cool. But just from the little bit the king told me about the story and Ganons' titles I've pretty much already figured out the whole plot of the game. Oh well.

Final boss seems to be a boss rush, which is cool and a good way to make it especially hard for people to rush straight to the castle--because you won't have enough supplies! I tried fighting them with my 3 hearts and damage is not the issue--supplies are. By the time I get to near the end of the second phase most of my weapons are broken and I'm running out of arrows. At that point I gotta start slowly chipping away with bombs which takes forever. I managed to get to the 3rd phase until I finally died, since most of the bosses' attacks only do 2.75 hearts funnily enough, but I guess I got hit by one of the 3+ heart ones.

I'm gonna just leave it at that rather than press on because the fight takes way too long with how weak I am and I'm basically just spoiling the rest of the bosses for myself. I wouldn't say my time was wasted though, because I got A TON of cool stuff in the castle. Paragliding off the top of Ganon's Castle should be fun

I jusy keep playing this game and there are constantly tears in my eyes. Is that so wrong?

Edit:
This is a distinct change in design philosophy for Nintendo. The optimistic part of me is thinking this is only the beginning of something much greater, started by the company that formed my childhood. Maybe my head's in the clouds, or maybe ninty is the change this industry needs.

I'm watching a little bit of Cinemassacre's live stream and if it wasn't in the title, I wouldn'T have guessed that this is Zelda.

There is a guy, with full blown knight's armor and a broom running around. :lol

Question about horses - how many spurs are for the fastest one? If I leave my horse after settling it down will I be able to call for it in any way? Is Epona really tied to an amiibo? Which amiibos have good unlocks?

This game is a dream come true. I spent all day wandering and finally got some new clothes!

This gyro puzzle seems like the actual solution is the one out of the box because everyone talks about this one and doing this thing.

There's also that fire puzzle in another shrine
where you have to light five torches at once by rotating a cube. Or you can just say "screw it" and light them all with fire arrows instead.

Just got my first decent weapon from the three giants shrine.

Great Thunderblade (5>32).

I don't want it to break :/

Sucks you can't at least apply some oil or some shit to weapons to give you a little bit more time with it.

So I beat the game yesterday, and I was seriously wondering what kind of appeal the game might have once the main story is done. Is there any reason to keep exploring this massive world?

Well, let me tell you... the game is better when you don't have to worry about any objective any more. When you pick a spot, say 'no fast travelling', and just explore really slowly.

Let me tell you the story of my last hour and a half in the game. No story spoilers, obviously, but 'sights and sounds of the game' spoilers, if you're wondering. The southern Faron woods region, to be specific.

I decide to take a walk through Faron woods. It's gorgeous, and I happily stroll along the path. I meet a minstrel who points out the fact that there was apparently a dragon in the woods. Okay, let's look for that. I go into this misty tropical region full of ruins and fight off a bunch of Lizalfos wielding shock arrows. At the end of this trail, there is is - a huge dragon skeleton. In the skull is a spring - marked 'spring of courage' and statue of Hylia.

Okay, that was awesome, let's move on. I climb the nearby mountains and come out on a peak overlooking lake Floria. It's utterly gorgeous. I swim down the waterfalls, and at the bottom is a stable - always a great discovery. The locals don't have much to say but I spend the night.

Next morning, I go out onto the bridge across lake Floria, where there's a Korok mini-archery test. As I'm doing that, a sound comes from behind. Out of the top of the waterfalls comes a massive yellowgreen dragon. It flies down towards me, under the bridge, utterly majestic. Massive glowing spines on its back shooting electricity. Reflexively I take my bow and shoot it. A scale comes flying off into the lake below. I go retrieve it.

I take the scale back to the dragon ruins where the statue of Hylia was. In a nod to old-school Zelda games, I throw the scale in the spring. The statue thanks me and opens a door to a hidden shrine. Inside is a powerful thunderlance. I'm just floored by the whole thing.

Guys, this might be the greatest pure video game of all time.

Wow, this is one of the best things I've ever heard of happening in a video game.

My God the road up to the Lake Tower is littered with enemies that will 1 shot you. What the hell. I gotta do some solid snake stealth shit to avoid them. Those Lizalfos dont mess around.

How do you parry the lasers back at the guardians? When I bring up my shield to parry it just blows it away at a random direction.
For the walking guardians, have them walk up as close to you then walk back for 1-2 seconds. Then right as the guardian laser lights up press a. Basically you need to parry before they shoot the laser.

You find a lot of great weapons. A really great weapon that respawns is in Hyrule castle, to get it
Enter the main doors of hyrule castle. This is facing the plateau, go up and follow the path and there's an opening. Enter the opening and use the ice power to lift the gate up, then go through and to the left to find the guardhouse. Jump down to where the moblin is and a statue will have a weapon that respawns after the blood moon that has 54 power.

It was probably raining and you didnt notice, maybe?
I know, it happened to me too :P

A guy i know is obsessing over the fact that this game scored 98 on Metacritic.

“A 98 with that performance is questionable, becomes unplayable with such an erratic frame rate.”
this is what I was saying yesterday

“Not being able to maintain 30fps at 900p (with no AA or motion blur) for a Wii U port doesn't bode well at all…” I question why this console is £280
You can buy a 500GB PS4 with Horizon Zero Dawn for £230 and a huge catalogue of games

you must be used to playing games with bad FPS like Bloodborne

“If this was not Zelda it would have been hammered.”

7.8 user score seems more reasonable
Jeff Gerstmann of Giant Bomb is shitting on the game atm on Twitch
Said he’s finding it boring
and durability/inventory systems are bad

Lirik just began playing
Biggest streamer on Twitch
he said “After playing Horizon these graphics are ass"
Lirik not enjoying Zelda
Seems the reviewers are full of shit
