This just in! Food affects work for horses, too! Fed my horse an endura carrot designed to give you more stamina to my horse and it gave him 3 extra spurs for a total of seven!

A little framey in cities but perfectly playable.

I have had no regrets. I cant see any visual loss but I may just not be tuned to that. I would be curious how it plays with the Pro Controller as the tablet is awkard for me after a while.

Tablet screen has no use other than off tv play.

That's good to hear, i think i'll stick with the Wii U for now. I'm disappointed by not having the second screen functionality though. It was a great addition to other Zelda games and it seems like BoTW would have benefited alot.

Thanks for the feedback

I generally like all the dynamic and simulation aspects of the game, and I generally like things mattering and having consequences -- But I genuinely despise the feature where you can't climb when it rains.

Today alone I've had three separate instances where I just sat there waiting several minutes for it to stop raining so I could continue. Waiting 5 minutes to play due to something you can't control is fucking terrible.

The worst example occured just now -- I was on the hilltop behind karaoke village. I pulled a chest out of the ground and it dropped into town below -- into the water behind a building. I went down into the water, found a place to stand, and lifted it up above me and dropped it on the walkway. As I was doing this it started raining.

I couldn't climb out because it was raining, and if I warped away the chest wouldn't be there anymore and I'd have to start over.

So I sat there waiting.

And, again, this isn't an isolated incident. It happens all the time. Waiting for it to stop raining. I can't imagine who thought this was a good idea.

Have you gone to the Zora domain yet?

It does suck but there is usually ways to get around the rain using other means (In this case you could have used cryonis to make a platform for the chest). Oh and you can climb, just not as well.

Just got my sheikah slate upgraded at
Hateno
. I feel like I've played 15 hours and have barely scratched the surface. I get sidetracked so much lol.

Same here. That upgrade was a bit of a wow moment, as they keep adding new things.
photo mode with a full bestiary? Damn, now that ocd element is triggered too :p

I'm addicted to the shrines. It's a combination of them having pretty fun puzzles and the reward being worth it. Heart containers feel earned this time around. I'm close to 6 hearts and I feel deserved every one of them. Plus, enemies do decent damage so I'm prioritizing health upgrades before I advance further in the story. I should start adding some stamina too though.

What makes this game really great is that it kind of reverse engineered the open world formula. For example in AC you get a map full of icons and it just feels like work going in there. In this game, you add your own icons as you discover things, making it feel like a real adventure instead of work. Could be that Witcher 3 worked similarly, but I like this approach.

I'm now looking for o
ne of the picture locations in the tablet, but I figure I'll find one looking for the first beast, so that's what I'm doing now.

It's crazy that I've spent this amount of time and haven't even entered a real dungeon yet, game is something else.

Question: do you get anything for
lighting all the blue flame sconces in Hateno? There were so many I figured something would happen, but maybe I didn't get them all yet.

A sneak mission in the game and the checkpoint system reboots you at the start of it all when you mess up. Also you can't manually save

God damn it nintendo...

I have an unnatural love for the whole "take photos of enemies/animals for their compendium picture" thing.

I could've gone on track to do my second divine beast today after reaching the rito village but instead took a very lengthy detour into autumnal land after some NPC offhand mentioned the other tech lab location.
Ultimately I adventured too far and ended up in heated territory and literally burnt to death, wonderful!

I rode a bear
Anything is possible
It took me 20 hours to finally see one and I was thrilled enough simply thinking "i didn't know bears were in this game, I was ready to carve the poor guy up and then thought "what if?"
And then OH MY GOD YES, I AM THE KING OF BEARS, if only you could register it for novelty purposes.

Yeah I never hated rain in a game before. Lol.
I have a love/hate relationship with the rain.
The fact that the weather has dynamically affected my progression at points (halting my climbing and torch lighting tasks) leaving me to wait for the rain to pass is part "man this is bullshit" and "man this is so cool in a bizarre way".
That it's not just a visual effect is something of a ballsy move considering it hinders more than it helps (it helps stealth I believe).

Similarly if I'm not mistaken, night time overcast tipping the temperature scales in a snowy area I was okay strolling through seconds prior was neat, almost froze my balls off as a result and sprinted back to the start vowing to return with toasty snacks.

Does anyone else, after finding a korok under a rock, drop it right back on their heads just for shits and giggles?
I did it by accident, poor Korok.

I got killed by a skeleton bokoblin throwing the disembodied head of another at me.

The enemies constantly surprise.
As an aside for skeletal fellows I love so much that the boney limbs you can pick up and use as a weapon continue to wriggle around, you've got Link just chatting with some folks at the stables with this grasping hand on his back.

I have no idea how to even cook in this game.
And i have no idea which direction i should head for first for the main quest with the beasts.
Is one reccomended based on the challenge of the area?

I just cleared the Plateue and got permission to leave. But as I start sailing out it crashes with a game disc error. WiiU, obviously. Any home remedies to fix this?

Seriously, I am loving this game. The sound is amazing and really adds to the immersion. You really feel like you're out in the wild. And I love that the wilderness feels alive, moving with the wind and whatnot. At first, it looks like it might be empty when looking from above, but once you get there. there are so many little things to do that it's very easy to lose track of time. A very different open-world game from something like Xenoblade Chronicles X (which I also loved very much).

Only real complaint is that framerate is jittery.

Edit: Anyone have a good idea of how to quickly pick up something under a rock? I hate picking a rock up, seeing a lizard, and having it run off before I can drop the rock and pick it up.

So far I'm really enjoying the game. The intro trials ease you into the mechanics without feeling too much like a tutorial. It's also pretty awesome just wandering around and being able to go pretty much anywhere. See a mountain? Go climb it!

The only thing I would say I don't like is the graphics. On my tv they do not look good at all. In fact, they look pretty bad. Maybe this will change as I love further into the game and see different areas. Personally I think the game looks much better in handheld mode and I think I'll play most of it there.

You can check your bond with them at the stables.

Oh that's nice, i like that.

Wii U owners, how is the Wii U version?

Most of the time perfectly playable but like Edge said too, with heavy weather effects it definitely starts showing framedrops quite bad, especially in certain areas. Just now at the Big Twin Bridge's stable, something like that. Or just now entering
Kakariko Village
, not sure if spoiler but did it to be sure, it's really bad with rain effects.

Other than that fine really.

Can't stand the VO for Zelda (the character). I didn't like the English VO in the trailer but I figured eh, it'll be fine. But I really hate it and it takes me out of every single cutscene she's in. I really wish they'd included the JP dub.

You can't make progress climbing when it's raining. Every x distance you fall the same distance. You can mount something short but any longer climb is impossible.

Also the water was too deep for the ice power

The VO has been bad. King Rhoam and Zelda are both pretty awful, frankly -- I'm just making a little indie game and if I received those VOs as reels I would have passed. Amateur and beginner VO actors are readily available who are better. I don't understand who cast this

I was going to post about how much I hate gyro controls, especially when you have to manipulate a stage to move a ball to a point.

Then I just flipped my controller upside down to skip all of the maze bullshit.

well rain can help you stealth

So at the top of Mount Ploymus, there is a tough as fuck enemy. I need to be in this area for the
Zora Quest
, but this beast is beating my ass over and over. Should I tackle this quest later or is this normal?

You're supposed to make fire and sleep. That way you don't have to wait. (Look for a safe space to make fire)

time to go sneaky peeky and just stealth your way to get the arrows

Is that the one to get arrows? If so, just sneak around and collect the arrows in the trees.

Finally finished Eventide Island!

Thank god. It's 2am, I need some sleep.

In the end it was frustrating but fun as all hell; felt like a mini Plataeu area in a way. So good.

You climb a few feet then jump, climb a few feet then jump, and so on.

There is no water too deep for ice powers that I've seen.

^ if there's some cover you can.

Avoid him, pick up the arrows scattered across the area.
I still haven't fought one of those guys one on one after the first one I encountered outside the snowfield area one shot me, as a result the fear of death is put into me whenever I see one of those beasts.

Just watched the first recovered memory, the one at the
Sacred Grounds near Hyrule Castle
. Holy crap is that area brutally hard. I went to the
town square
by mistake and then died 10 times trying to come back out of the area to the
sacred grounds
lol. At least I got a really awesome shield and sword out of it.

As for the cutscene, very interesting. First, Zelda's VA is pretty bad. I was meh on her initially but her delivery in that scene was terrible.
The rest of the VA however was pretty good.

So seems like Zelda
didn't initially like Link? I do find the "he represents all of her own failures" angle really interesting
. Cant wait to see more!

This way of telling the story is pretty cool. Theres an overarching main quest and then there are these recovered memories that fill in more of the backstory. You can then prioritize what you want out of the game. Kind of like a Netflix binge: you can get them all one after another or take your time with them.

I got that memory first too, and yeah it was difficult getting through that area.

I actually like Zelda's voice acting so far.

Also, when we get Hyrule Warriors 2, these new characters definitely need to be in, plus Saria, Nabooru, and Groose.

Seriously, it's baffling. Everything sounds like a first read, and like the actors weren't given any direction other than "act anime". This is so beneath this game's status it's actually embarrassing.

I decided to restart the game after recklessly going to
Gerudo area
after coming down from the Great Plateau. Found a ton of stuff on the plateau that I haven't yet discovered from my first playthrough, and discovered that the diary of the old man will update twice
(once after you obtain the clothe, another after he revealed who he is)
. Now I reach
Kakariko Village and will meet Impa.
My plan is to finish the meeting and wander wherever I want. Probably will go to the
cloud top mountain at the West.

All of the VA in the game is amateur-hour. I've seen puppet shows with more compelling voice performances.

Is there any sort of place to store weapons, or is it just what I can carry?

Well,
Once you buy the house at the village with the windmills, Hateno, I think, you can purchase upgrades for the house that add more weapon racks, which you can store weapons in, albeit one per rack

Use the dodge counter, and arrows to the face stun him for some easy hits. Took me a while but once you learn to read his moves, he can go down pretty quickly, provided you have some descent weapons.

You need to find shelter.

so how is going to find shelter a better way to pass the time than just waiting for it to stop raining?

Seriously, it's baffling. Everything sounds like a first read, and like the actors weren't given any direction other than "act anime". This is so beneath this game's status it's actually embarrassing.

yep. rhoam sounded like --- like a kid/young guy trying to sound like an old man. It's silly sounding

My standards for voice acting must be in the gutter, because I haven't had an issue with them at all in this game. And I was expecting to hate the performances.

couple questions if you don't mind answerin'

what are the shiny little bunnies and how do i catch them before they disappear?

has anyone solved The Hero's Cache sidequest? I'm about 25 hours in and this is the first hint that I really don't understand. Maybe I just need to open up the map more.

Is there any materials that I should absolutely positively never sell?

Thanks!!
