Dodge and flurry for first part. Only need two of them. Then shock arrows while he's on the ceiling. Use normal arrows of cryonesis for the ice.

I always forget that I have the runes during combat.
I just shot him in the face with normal arrows until he fell to the floor so I could slash at him, like 90% of all Zelda bosses.

I'm curious which dungeon most people end up doing first. I've only made it to one and found it pretty satisfying.

So I beat the first Divine Beast dungeon last night (Ruta) and it was...I'm speechless. Everything leading up to it, the design, the story, the boss...Just perfect game design.

Now I have no idea where to go and I love it.

I just beat it now too, and my thoughts exactly. What sublime game design. Now I can't wait to explore with the new toys given to me.

Most people will definitely do Zora's Domain first, it's the closest of the 4

Akkala Tower, the one with
all the poisonous stuff around it
, took a while to climb lol.
Had to screw around with the two metal boxes you can find nearby, but it was difficult enough even with those that I feel like I should've done this one later on with some other help.

I climbed that without using any metal boxes 😅 I didn't know there were any!

What is the reward? I really hate to spoil myself, but I have a very good guess as to what it is (something hinted at in one review I read).

Super jump that propels you into the air and unleashes the glider. Invaluable for exploring and getting out of sticky situations. Cool animation too.

Does anyone have a 1080p wallpaper of the tapestry for the story of the
events 100 years ago?

It's the thing hanging behind
Impa in her home
, and it was seen in full during the cutscene where
she explains the story.

It's also the art from the splash screen when you boot the game up from the Wiiu menu

So, that korok seed guy... does he move to a different location after the first couple of times? I don't seem to be able to find him anymore.

I went around the whole map and activated all the towers, was getting nervous with the uncompleted map lol. It was great, GREAT fun, it felt like a huge journey, and I stopped to do some shrines during this journey, also discovered some main towns, stopped by to check, did a couple sidequests.

I'm amazed by this game.

I just tested docked mode for the first time. There's definitely a lag compared to handheld. Is that normal? Using pro controller too.

It has to be your TV, because I notice no lag when I dock it.

So far I've done one of the main dungeons. That fight was so much fun and they took out the bad parts of dungeons, at least for the
Camel Guardian
So much to do and only 15 hours in the game.

Going crazy trying to activate all the towers so I can find all the memories on the map lol.

Some gripes I have is FPS drastically dropping where I die to enemy hits due to not being able to move. Not being able to switch controls is also killing me literally.

Would love to make Shield the L button and Bow the R button like it really should be on the Wii U gamepad.

Thinking about investing in Pro controller but I'm still iffy about it.

Right now its activate towers and then get the Master Sword before I go on to other dungeons.

This game is amazing.
Everywhere I go in this game the open world is full of life. Its truly something new and unique. One of the best games I have ever played and I have barely scratched its surface.

The towns and NPC are great, such amazing detail on each and every NPC. The exploration part of the game is just so great, never have I felt like exploring like I do in the world of Breath of the wild.

Nintendo sure hit the jackpot with this game, I dare say it, its better than OOT.

I hope we're all following the unwritten rule of "no quest markers" and "no fast travel" the game is so satisfying when played like that and you're doing yourself a disservice if you play it any other way. I went on like a 3 hour adventure last night where I discovered so many things and people all because I didn't just fast travel back to where I wanted to get to.

This game is fucking amazing.

Woah, the loot in Hyrule Castle is crazy. I doubled my offensive capabilities, and it wasn't that hard as long as you sneak around and are really, really careful.

I didn't even take damage until I went outside and got shot by a billion lasers

I don't use quest markers for anything other than returning to get a quest reward, but I couldn't play this game without fast travel

I don't have time to spend 2 hours just to get from point A to point B when there's an option that takes 5 seconds

Really really careful with what? Are there only guardians because I already killed all of those but haven't entered the castle. Are there any harder enemies?

This game is giving me serious Skies of Arcadia vibes. I haven't had this much fun exploring since that game.

Witcher 3 was amazing but the experience was so guided and it didn't feel the same way.

The fact that NPCs
have different animations and pathing and dialog based on the weather and time of day as well.
Like, it really makes the world feel alive in a way that's organic rather than predetermined. I know other games have had systems like this, but this feels more dynamic.

I think people should do the main objectives till they get their shieka slate upgrades available. If anything it just helps your exploration. Also at a certain point they just give you more ovjectives that further encourage random, wild exploration.

The issue for me was, basically, not knowing where the main quest objectives were. And when something catches your eye, like a shrine in the distance, it's hard not to head straight for it.

When I first got off of the plateau, I don't even remember what I did first. It was so long ago now. The Old Man told me to seek out Impa in Kakariko Village, but I was playing in Pro Mode and not looking at the quest map at all. I knew I needed to hear towards Dueling Peaks, so I headed in that direction.

I spent, like, a whole day doing this. I picked apples and fought bokoblins and completed shrines. Eventually I was nowhere near where I was supposed to be. I was in the forest where Kass tells you to seek the forest dragon's splayed jaws. I had no idea why I was there, or what I should be doing there, and when I saw that quest as far through as I could, it told me to come back with Farosh's Scale. Whatever that is.

Reaching my first dead end, I warped back to Dueling Peaks and looked around. I noticed a stable I hadn't seen before. I completed the nearby shrine and headed along the road. How long had there been a road here? Finally I came to a sign pointing me towards Kakariko. I met Impa.

Then I spent eight more hours doing shrines and finding treasure chests. I'm walking along a river and an NPC shouts at me and tells me to go up-river. I oblige. I follow it all the way up to my first Divine Beast quest and realize I am DEEP in a section of the map I haven't even lit the tower for. I literally have no idea where I am, or how I got there, but now I'm completing major story elements. Meanwhile, I was supposed to go to another village and meet somebody who knew something about my Sheikah Slate. I still haven't done that.

I ended up warping back to Kakariko and "restarting" from there. I turned Pro Mode off and am trying to follow clear roads and quest markers. Pro Mode is a lot of fun when you want to get lost, but without the mini-map, lost is all I ever am.

The game looks brilliant and I really wanna play it, but as I don't have a Switch or a Wii U it's not happening, at least for some time. But there's something I'm curious about re: the story. I couldn't find a spoiler thread for BotW so I thought I'd ask here. If there is a spoiler thread I'll be glad to ask there, and delete my post here.

Obviously do not click this unless you've finished the game:

I watched a video of the final boss, Calamity Ganon, in both his/its forms. It doesn't really look much like Ganondorf from the post-SNES games. So is Calamity Ganon the same entity as Ganondorf, or a new entity that just happens to go by the same name?

Doing the desert portion of the game and I just came to the
Yiga Clan Hideout
. Gave it a shot but I think I'm giving up for the night, this is the first portion of the game I really haven't liked so far.

While the game is truly amazing, the main storyline has been pretty underwhelming for me. Are there any plot twists or
does nothing happen after I beat the 4 Divine Beasts ? I mean in any Zelda game there is atleast one plot twist but this game seems to lack that which makes the story a bit unteresting for me. I know you can collect memories, but these do not affect the gameplay in any way do they. After the really great Switch Event trailer I would have hope that they would put more effort in the storyline but it seems like this isn't the case.

If I had to look for negative points in this game, it would be the lack of traditional dungeons, potentially the story line and that the shrines, while clever puzzle wise, are always looking the same. I would trade in 30-40 Shrines for 3 big traditional dungeons scattered in the overworld to find and explore. I think that would be a lot more rewarding and exciting. Also a bit more music would be welcome.

Everything else is top notch in this game, seriously.

im still with only 4 heart containers and I been at this game for about 15 hours now. I been exploring and going deep into new areas.

Found this path
Leading up a big mountain, at the top of it was a big grass field and on it a monster fused into a horse with a big ass Trident! he one shot me.. I tried again, sneaked passed him and lootet his 2 chests, 2 gold rupees! YES im rich bitch!

Such an awesome feeling to explore in this game

Which guardian should I start at? I was going to head north east but it's snowy. I went to the desert and it was too hot. Should I buy gear and do some shrines for health first? I'm dying really easy with 3 hearts.

I did a side quest yesterday in a town where a woman wanted me to
find some ingredients to help her make dinner.

I came back in the evening with the stuff and her family was already eating, when I tried to hand in the quest she basically said "Oh sorry I already made dinner today, if you come back tomorrow you're free to join us"

Came back next day in the morning and she accepted the ingredients and cooked me a meal.

Stuff like that is just so immersive. I can't remember any game that has NPC detail and routines on the level of this.

I am so on the fence about buying a Switch. I want Zelda sooo bad. I have a friend who has an extra unit that I can buy at cost. Somebody push me over the edge and put me out of my misery!

How do I increase my inventory?

The only downside I have for this game right now is that inventory management is kinda annoying.

Trade Korok seeds to Hestu, the fat funny tree man. He can be found for the first time outside Kakariko Village. Pay attention when he talks to you, because after you give him enough Korok seeds, he disappears. He gives hinting directions each time about where he is headed.

Reading these impressions makes me really want to finish Nioh and Horizon as quickly as possible so I can devote an entire month to this.
Unless you don't have a full time job you're gonna need more than a month.

This game is the truth.

Almost forgot I did this yesterday, but I stumbled across the
Lost Woods and Deku tree. I did two shrines that I thought were part of the Forest Trials or whatever - the constellation puzzle and the Shrine Quest that was a Lost Woods reprise. Doesn't seem like I'm done with the Trials though, am I missing something?

Yes, the game scales to your progression and you picked arguably the easiest boss to square off against.

Really? I've only finished
Zora and Ruto but I found the Wind boss much easier than the lack-of-platforms Water. And I did Zora first

I spent a majority of one day climbing up the last area of the game and eventually getting to the boss lol. The day after, I was going to the objective then got distracted by the camps and the shrines :|

There's a lot of issues currently with the Switch that make for a weird early adopter experience, but I'll talk about the good so far.

I love love love the hardware. Seamlessly going from docked to handheld mode is a game-changer and the screen itself is beautiful. The Joycons are much more comfortable than you'd first assume and playing with the Joycons separated (one in each hand) is now my most preferred control scheme of any console.

The UI is clean and snappy. The parental control app is extremely well designed, snappy as well, and a breeze to set up (indicated a future of phone Apps that are actually useful and nice to use).

IF Nintendo plays it's hand right this console is going to get a hell of a lot of use out of me. As of right now it's getting near CONSTANT use because of Zelda.

I say if you don't have a Wii U and want to play Zelda then getting a Switch is a no brainer. *shrug* You should ask in the Hardware Launch thread if you want more in depth impressions though.

Same, glided over to it from the ruins.

I climbed it from the bottom. Believe or not, there was a way to carefully traverse and climb the ruins to be able to climb it. I remember there was this broken arch that formed an overhang, and you had to super carefully climb the sides of it, or risk either falling (since you can't climb the bottom of overhangs) or hitting the black goop
