Just did my first dungeon WOW (Spoilers for Gerudo dungeon)

It was the camel beast in the Gerudo desert, and the lead up was pretty damn epic, using the sand seals to catch up to it and hit with bomb arrows to take it down. Then the dungeon itself was REALLY clever. Very complex and surprisingly small (which makes sense when the beast is to scale and you can go outside and see the scenery while it wanders around)
The whole twisting of the centre, finding the 5 points and manipulating the machinery took a lot of getting used to, but I eventually found all the areas and it was super satisfying.

Then that boss! Wow, very intense fight that had me scoffing down a couple of temporary heart boosting meals to make sure I got through. The section with the lightning rods had me confused, but Urbosa's hints got to me eventually and the magnesis light pinged in my head. Really smart.

And now I have Urbosa's Fury! How often can I use that? Haven't tried it yet, but it seems pretty OP. Great rewards for beating it (the two chests with scimitar and amazing shield) AND if I do all the Gerudo side quests I get the Electric helmet! Awesome carrot on the stick to make me commit to doing this side stuff, which I was gonna do anyway.

Boss Spoilers Inbound. This game is kinda hard to talk about without spoiling cool ass shit. So tread carefully.

SO I just arrive at
Zora's
Domain
(location spoiler), its super pretty and continues the game's fantastic characters. So I have to go collect stuff and then there is this badass enemy that is too damn strong so you have to stealth your way around it or else get bodied. That already cool...but then
there is a boss battle
.

Holy shit. I heard that this was one area the game was lacking...and while it is early....no fucking way is that the case.

wow this game yall.

I'm assuming you're talking about the
Lynel
boss fight and yeah, I must have died 10 times on him before I figured it out. It took every weapon I had too, which is my fault since I was carrying mostly crap.

omg I arrived at
Rito village
after a looong trek
and Dragon Roost theme started
, goosebumps. I guess it doesn't matter what order you do the beasts in, I hope this one's not too hard as it's my second one.

This game is really special. Exploring is so rewarding, not only with the shrines,
but also discovering trolls/skeleton bosses and even remote islands. Completing that Crusoe island stripped of your supplies
was one of the best parts yet.

At first I thought activating the lookout towers would be a boring affair, but some are pretty challenging to activate. Like this one
surrounded by electro wizrobes... in a pond. That felt a bit like Dark Souls actually. Luckily you can create ice pillars.

Few nitpicks so far:
- voice acting for the female characters is grating. Zelda, but Mipha as well
- cooking could/should go faster
- gotten used to the bow quick change, but it's still weird.
You can skipped the cooking animations at least.
I think a command prompt when near a cooking station would speed it up tho.

Man, Eventide is hard is balls.

I literally can not believe Nintendo made this game. Literally decades of making their biggest games more and more accessible than they were before, and all of the sudden they spit out the most hardcore open world experience I've ever played on console.

Just got my tablet updated with the camera.

What a way to integrate an item tracker and camera. So damned smart. I've hardly done any story yet there is SO MUCH to do outside of it. I'm really, really enjoying this. An open world done right.

Really? How? Do you just press a button?

Completing that was so satisfying. My opinion of the game also skyrocketed after doing that. It's a cool idea they executed wonderfully.

Wow. I thought XCX was a pretty bad open world game in a lot of ways, but going from Zelda to XCX would be pure torture.

All of the things Zelda gets right, XCX gets wrong. From game feel and control, to combat, to endless wordy crap narrative, to the fact that you end up being able to fly, trivialising the level / world design, to abrasive music all the time...

Literally the only places XCX is better is in the visuals and maybe voice acting department.

Yeah, for real. And like I said XCX takes its amazing topography and throws it out the window 30 hours in with the game-breaking flight mod. After which it becomes a fast-travel fetch quest simulator.

I love mechas and I loved my flying mechas.
XCX was a really cool sci-fiction rpg need a sequel so many secrets unrevealed.

Also pro tip if you want a meal that gives TONS of temporary hearts, cook 5 Hearty Radishes! It gives you a full health restore plus 15 extra hearts! I cooked up 2 of them as dungeon boss preparation and they came in handy!

I've put in a paltry 20 hours into X and have barely even started Chronicles but I've seen enough to agree. My first thought, after "damn that's beautiful," when I entered (area spoiler)
Zora's Domain was "damn, this looks so much like an area from Xenoblade Chronicles I've seen.

I would like to play as Link in a Xenoblade like world. Hyrule is great and all but Xenoblade X's alien world was astounding.

That's what they need for the BOTW/Majoras Mask 2 sequel: Link in a surreal alien world. Lolz people would flip their shit.

CLIMBING PROTIP

If you tap the (B) button while you're climbing slopes that you'd normally slide down but aren't completely vertical, you'll clamber real quick, and regenerate some stamina to boot. It only works on slopes up to a certain steepness, but once you figure it out it's a gamechanger.

also I've said it before but the more I play the stronger I feel: this really is the best game I've ever played. I'm fucking stunned by this game at every turn. At this point I no longer even doubt that tweet that asserts this game could go on to influence game design like Mario 64 did. In some ways, I won't be satisfied with future open worlds if they don't meet some of the bars that Breath of the Wild set.

Those delays were worth it lol

Wait, is your B button your jump or sprint button?

I changes my B to jump, isn't that what everyone's doing?

Looking through the lands for ingredients, use the stop time filter and it will show up the items you can pick up. It's like the item highlighter in tomb raider. Thank me later.

I tried sleeping for a bunch of days in game but that didn't respawn any ore. I guess it's based on real world time?

I think it is actually. I'd like to know. I need more peppers lol.

I guess you could probably fast forward your game clock like Animal Crossing...

You can do this but get 20 if you use Hearty Durian (which if you know where to look, show up in large numbers).

That's what I did LMAO, but I assumed nobody was doing it so I said the default config's equivalent.

If you switched your jump button then it's X.

Try it. How it works is when you run up to a cliff face on the ground, you'll clamber up it for a sec before you start climbing and expending stamina? Well, the degree of the slope on which you can clamber at any time is actually pretty forgiving - if you 'let go' while climbing a slope that looks like this ( / ) you'll clamber up for a second (while regaining stamina) before continuing to climb.

Thanks! Man at least this will speed up the process a little. I love the cooking mechanic, but it can take a while. I usually just do a bunch of recipes in one go so I don't have to bother with it for a few hours.

I'm pretty sure that's EXACTLY what you're supposes to do. I cook maybe once every 5 hours or more, with all the materials you have it's plenty to stockpile.

I tried changing my button but I'm too far in and have gotten used to it this way. I jumped off a few cliffs and was thinking "have I lost my darn paraglider or something"...

Anyway to combat the cold I have the warm doublet and climbed all the way up a mountain
where I found a big dragon
and I'm supposed to defeat it but weather is against me lol

What's the best use of the shrines? Health or stamina for early game?

Get two or three hearts and then go in on stamina for that quality of life improvement. Also, if you tackle the south eastern most divine beast first, you'll get an ability that will help offset the fact that you don't have many hearts.

Use peppers to cook spicy dishes that will warm you up. Sometimes it can get so cold that you'll need warm gear + an elixer or hot meal. You can also carry a burning torch.

What's your focus right now? Exploration or combat? I've been putting an even mix into both, although I'm starting to favor stamina so that I don't have to eat meals while climbing (but thank goodness you *can*).

This is from a different BOTW thread. Perhaps questions can be answered here?

I wasn't planning on playing BOTW soon but the hype it has received is really making me curious. Some questions:

1. How easy is it to play at your own pace and not feeling the urge to play long hours? It feels like a game that requires lots of investment and it is easy to get absorbed.
2. Can you save anywhere?
3. Is it okay to play BOTW if you haven't played certain Zelda games yet (MM, TP, SWS)? In terms of story connection, returning characters, fanservice, easter eggs etc.

Haha, I'm exactly the same. I thought "combat seems better", but kept falling to my death exploring. Changed it back to default.

I've upgraded twice for stamina both times.

I'd recommend it if you're going for climbing towers. Minor spoiler about towers
I've come across one tower where you need a bigger stamina bar or a lot of stamina refill food to reach the top because there are no spots to break.

I'm not sure what you mean by the first question, but it's an engrossing game. It's also big. It'll take a lot of time to complete. You can save anywhere and you don't need prior zelda knowledge at all.

No Zelda experience required. It's independent from the other games.

You can save anywhere and the game AutoSaves for you every two minutes it seems. You can reload from a list of auto states, it's really nice.

It's easy to pick up for just a few minutes and get something "done".

Laame :( I wanted to go further.

1) It's really easy to get absorbed by it, I think you can play short sessions because there is so much things to do but it requires some willpower to stop I guess.

2) Yes you can

3) Don't know about that yet, I'm not so far into the game but it has some returning characters (WW) and easter eggs.

My fourth article is here about my journey towards Hateno village and its surrounding !

Somethings the game is missing that would make it so much better and they should use for the game that will follow BOTW.

Deku Nut Arrows for flashbang grenade style item. Will let you escape fights or blind powerful enemies.

Creating poisons with your food or put on your weapons to deal extra damage. Some of the foods you make might as well be poison lol.

Bird companion for sky exploration akin to Skyward Sword.

Bring back more items and enemies.

NPC filled dungeon where monsters take over a town and you have to liberate it and fight a boss battle with NPCs helping you.

I have many more ideas that I hope that they put into the next game since it will be pretty hard to top this one with what they have accomplished.

I'm just gonna quote this because it really does change my approach to climbing and it's way faster a lot of the time
