The approach to th divine beast in the dessert SUCKS. And the reload point after failing is before a bunch of unskippable dialogue.

I did it on my first try and I thought it was super fun.

Same with the
Zora Region Elephant Divine Beast Approach segment.

So the alternative to a weak/nonexistent soundtrack is to have obnoxious music playing all the time? Pretty sure there could have been a much better balance than what we got. The fact that the regions didn't really get their own themes is really sad to me.

Kinda hard to interpret the seemingly condescending "Lol, dat edit".

I think you're missing the point of what they were going for.

It's a waste. Cook one (1) hearty raddish or one (1) hearty truffle or (1) hearty salmon for a full heal dish and various amounts of temp hearts.

2 Big hearty truffle + 2 big hearty raddish = 18 temp hearts

Not a waste. You get to watch in elation as the fairies try to escape until their inevitable death

That one was the best. Rito was OK, Goron was one of the most annoying missions in the game.

That one I got really frustrated with not because of the slight
stealth
element but because I made it the whole way before realizing
you had to use the cannons to make the beast move.

Found the second memory and I truly can't get over how terrible the voice acting is in the game. Well not the acting in enough itself, but the casting of the characters and line delivery of some of them. It's completely off for nearly every single one of them. I truly can't understand how we went from something like the original Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story to this average at best stuff since the WiiU days.

Yes I know NOA vs NOE is part of it,
but still.

Same thing happened to me. I got to the last point and was extremely confused as to what to do, and then figured it out and had to backtrack.

I like the zora stuff the most, followed by gerudo, goron, then rito. I felt the rito approach was pretty quick and lacking.

The soundtrack is pretty weak compared to past games. There isn't a single memorable track in the game that doesn't remix an already existing song, and even those are incredibly rare.

Bullshit.

The soundtrack puts emphasis on atmosphere and gels with the open world nature of the game. If there were big bold themes everywhere it wouldn't fit. When I'm traversing to mostly silence apart from the understated piano here and there, and start climbing a tower and get higher and higher with that music, it's fucking magic.

Lucked out both times with the trunk water in Zora dungeon before knowing what was needed

Im that good

I just found a fuckin tank of a horse while running around. Checked online and apparently it's Ganon's horse lol. Very cool.
The size of this beast is crazy. On my way back to a stable to reg it I ran into like six horse riding moblins and I kinda freaked out, since I didn't want to lose my new horse. So I just rode straight threw 'em and the impact from when we collided just made 'em flew all over the place haha. This horse is a monster.

Also, just noticed, he has unlimited stamina. Niiiiice!

^what? that's awesome! post a pic!

still just running around the map trying to climb towers & open up sections...

ive got about 1k saved up & no real need for more clothes right now, thinking of keeping my rupees for that 3k log cabin place. is there any reason not to sell rubies/opals/stones and such? do you get more money for them in certain places/times or should i just unload them whenever?

Bullshit.

What's your opinion so far on the game overall. I've enjoyed your takes on zelda games.

I would like your opinion too.

It's not even the stealth element, it's just that it drags on for soo long. Also not even remotely as cool as the rest.

So... Im bursting into flames on Death Mountain. How does one... not do that? *laughs*

Any helpful armor?

Yup. Goron Village sells it, you can get one part for free before getting there tho.

I just started playing the game, but I'm not finding it amazing. However, it's my own fault.

You know how after playing a great game so much, it comes a point where you just don't find it amazing any longer? This is what's happening here to me. I watched that Great Plateau E3 footage so much, watched so many analyses about it, that I feel like I already 'played' the game.

I know things will change after I leave the Plateau, but so far the hype has twisted my enjoyment.

Yeah I really dig the subtle piano music in the game when I'm out and about, it gives it that out-in-the-wilderness atmospheric but classy kinda feel, and then when I enter a village or other place a more obvious theme starts playing it feels great. So gud.

So, the "secret" ending is pretty good, I'm relieved. I actually quite like this game's story, now that I've seen everything of it. It's really nice. Not as generic as I thought.

I'm sure your opinion will change once you leave the plateau, which is great too, but the rest of the world is amazing.

The alternative to having music playing all the time is not having music playing all the time. There is no point in the continuum that will satisfy every person, and certainly the precise balance between music and silence that you personally would favor isn't guaranteed to please all, or even most, people.

Personally I think it's a refreshing change of pace to mostly have ambience sounds. Like virtually every design choice in the game, it gives me a feeling of respect for the player and their attention span.

I had the exact same feeling when I started. Everything changes when you get off the plateau.

Even the reviewers said they didn't know what to think until after the plateau and the game let you go do whatever. Don't worry about the hype, just keep playing.

This game...
....Is so amazing!

I've never felt so much wonder and awe in exploring a game. I have so many open quests, yet I just keep exploring and finding new place to discover. Even after successfully infiltrating the end game area, I'm more than happy to backtrack and get right back to exploring. I've never truly experienced this kind of freedom and immense world to traverse.

I've put the game on hard, dynamic HUD (so no map in the corner to guide me) and a refusal to use youtube or game FAQ, while avoiding spoilers, and it's absolute bliss. I wish more games were like this. Hell, I'd love if the next Metroid was like this (with the option to traverse planets). More than 40 hours in and I have no idea where to find the next divine beast. I feel like I can play this for months.

Sorry for the long post!

At this point, I still have Horizon to play, Neir, and Persona 5 to play soon, yet I can't let this game go. Feels like the best year in gaming ever. I just wish I had the time to play and enjoy everything.

Whew! Praise over.

I hate to repeat it so I'll do it just this one last time, the game's attention to audio really shines when you play with headphones on.

Pretty much knew all that, but it's good to hear more reassurements.

That meaty BOOM when lightning strikes right next to you leaves a bigger impression with big boxes though. BOTW has the best audio design for thunder storms I've ever heard.

One guy (seems like I misremembered) at the southern mines trades you for 10 (I think) of those fireproof lizards.

So here's the thing. Music is written to compliment something. When Castlevania: Lords of Shadow came out, people criticized the music because it wasn't like traditional Castlevania music. But there's a reason for this: traditional stage-based Castlevania games, and 2D platformers in general have a faster forward momentum to them. This means that the music in those feels more right to be prominent and thematic. There's an upbeat style to that but it syncs with the game design and play. With Lords of Shadow, the gameplay was not like this, it took place in larger 3D spaces and was more focused on atmosphere. The kind of music written for that game complimented its style and pacing.

This is the first open world Zelda game like this, you spend a lot of time just traveling, and I don't think big bold thematic themes playing at all times would fit the world and atmosphere at all. That's why it's a lot more understated. And most sub-locales like towns have their own (terrific, by the way) themes, and it's a great feeling when you go from the silence of the wilderness and approach a place and its theme slowly starts to come in. It causes a contrast and makes it feel more special.

The piano themes for the overworld are great and fit wonderfully. There are new themes, all the village tracks are fantastic, Kakariko Village's theme wasn't the same and is great on its own. "Weak" is not a word I would choose to describe the soundtrack. It's a different approach due to the design and immersion they were attempting to achieve.

so...yeah? just sell these stones whenever & wherever then?

there's a lot of much-needed change here, the core formula is largely gone in favor of a massive, exciting overworld to explore. towns (and quests) abound, shrines are plentiful & act like mini-dungeons for puzzles, weapons break, lots of things changed up and initially it can be a bit off putting

then you spend some time and go into places you clearly don't belong yet in the overworld, and run into giant versions of classic enemies and the game feels a bit like the magic that was OG zelda 1 and i can't put it down

Ugh, I knew I should have waited to get this game.

I just got the game for Wii U against my better judgement, instead of waiting for a Switch. My Wii U's gamepad has been screwy for a while now and the touchpad simply doesn't work. I think its water damage, but I'm not quite sure. Heating the gamepad up sometimes works, but it eventually reverts back to being unresponsive.

I can still boot up the game using a different controller, and outside of that, I assumed I could use the gamepad without an issue since I heard from friends that the game doesn't need the touchpad, but for some weird reason, I can't talk to the Old Man, or at least I can't press A to confirm dialogue choices, only hit B to ignore him. I'm stuck after raising the map tower, since the I can't press A or B to confirm either of the dialogue choices. Can't hit up or down either, and I'm afraid I'm basically stuck.

What did you expect this thread to be? Just a circle jerk of people saying how good the game is?

I just glance over spoilers that i haven't seen in the game yet.
It's called common courtesy. Just highlight the link and click the spoiler button. It's literally been a week. No one has seen all the game has to offer.
