The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild |OT2| It's 98 All Over Again

I finally got some time to sit down with this game over the weekend, and MY GOD. The amount of freedom you have in this game is liberating. I ended my play session yesterday by climbing a cold mountain, clearly well before I was supposed to be there because even the cold fighting tunic I got at the beginning of my adventure wasn't working.
As I was running up the mountain and past all the enemies, you know, just to see how far I could go before dying, I came to a shrine at the top of the mountain. Here I had to save a dragon from Calamity Ganon's corruption by using updrafts and my para glider as he descended the mountain with every hit. Healing myself with the dozens of apples I've gathered along the way, I was successful in freeing the beast.

This was the most exhilarating thing I've ever done in a video game, hands down. Nintendo has crafted something special here for sure. It's not like any game I've ever played before.

ya, remember doing that part. only had the cold tunic and ran out of cold resistant foods lol. was eating apples like crazy. had one arrow left and one eye left at my save point. took me a million tries but did it

I dunno why they made a land Octorok when a Deku Scrub would have worked just as well.

Heck, it could be the same exact enemy behavior with a different model (which is basically how it worked in OoT).

Octoroks were land-based from the beginning, they didn't become water-based until Ocarina of Time(in which they stole the moveset of the evil Zora in the 2D games).

stealth is easier in the rain because of the added noise and if it's a thunder storm that opens up some more (pretty hilarious) gameplay opportunities utilizing magnises and in certain situations you can get the lightning to create a fire which creates an updraft

Stealth aside, the other two are so niche they don't possibly justify being unable to climb in a game fundamentally built around having the freedom to climb.

Yeah, but they roamed around in that game. The land Octoroks in this game act almost identically to the Deku Scrubs from OoT.

So is it worth it to purchase that
3,000 dollar house? Can you make any money off of it?
just looked at a map for zelda and holyshit its big. im only at mount lanaryu ish area and thought i must have explored quite a bit.
This has to be one of the biggest maps ever made in an open world game. Maybe just because it's so dense and vertical.

You don't need to abandon anything. You can create a fire to sit at with wood and Flint.

Edit: underneath cover of course so the fire doesn't get rained on.

It's not often there's cover halfway up a cliff.

Played for 'more than 70 hours' (according to my Switch's log) and have only done one dungeon and revealed only 5 areas...

Can't get enough of this game.

One more tower to go. Strangely I can't even see it from several vantage points. I guess I gotta actually go in the area before I can view it. I did find an amazing mountain teeming with life on my path there.

I still haven't done any dungeons or even entered their respective towns outside of Rito Village. I'm absolutely in zero rush.

You should purchase the house for several main reasons:

1)
Storage - You can add racks to display gear.

2)
It unlocks another major sidequest.

Destroyed Ganon. So endgame spoilers:

First form is so ugly. Second Form is pretty good. It's clear the focus was on Zelda and Link, but damn Ganon got shafted hard.

Can anyone help me with the Korok puzzle immediately SW of
Lanaryu Tower
?

There's a rock on a wooden platform near a suspiciously round hole. I refuse to believe there's no Korok hiding there.

Either I'm crazy or there's some sort of optical illusion with this screenshot, I swear Link appears to be moving.

Personally prefered the first form, really creepy and bloodborne like! The second form is cool but way too easy

With the huge nature theme of the game the lack of Deku Babas is very strange to me. This game also felt like the perfect time to reintroduce the Deku Scrub race, potentially as both enemies and NPCs.
In general I REALLY hope this game gets a Majora style direct sequel built directly on top of it with heavy asset reuse and a 2-3 year dev time, and if it does I hope enemy variety is one of the things to get a big boost.

Yeah, l'd like a sequel featuring some of the less common races of the franchise, Twilis, Deku scrubs, Mogmas, things like that. BotW distanced itself from OoT gameplay wise but it still follows the mythology introduced in OoT. Same places, same races, with a bit of TWW added into the mix.

I'm gonna have to download Zelda from the eShop, how long did it take for you guys? I usually get 10 MB/s down on Steam, but that's with my PC connected directly to my router via ethernet.

I dug it. Looked suitably monstrous and kind of really scary. All those legs. Slightly eldritch even. I'm just glad they didn't do yet another boring swordfight.

yeah the climbing thing is annoying. I usually just wait it out or try and brute force my up anyway. I got really good at finding the nooks and crannies of a mountain early on before upgrading my stamina so it usually doesn't affect me too much. I actually have never set down wood and lit a fire. didn't even realize you could do that until I saw it brought up in here.

as for the lightning striking I think it's pretty great. getting it to strike an enemy is admittedly niche but I think it's hilarious and I've used the updraft to my advantage on several occasions.

Game is much more enjoyable with over 2 stamina meters. Now can run and float without giving any shits

Running around exploring every area before going after Ganon. Amazing to find even more
towns
that have nothing to do with divine beasts. Game is sooo large. Every path has some epic goal it feels like. and if you have no idea what it is, can explore the local town to find out more. I love that loop

Most open worlds don't have that. Either the world isn't interesting until you make it interesting by unlocking events through quests. Or you can't tell it's interesting because there is no visual tell: only a marker on the map.

For example In GTA you can explore the airport without a mission for example, but nothing will be happening there until you start the mission that involves the airport. Here, though, you can find optional bosses and shrines via your own exploration and get town help on their locations only when needed (or you want npc loot). Often you can find the stuff on your own though which is what makes exploration amazing

It's happened with me but only when fighting moblins. A couple of times I've hit them and they've fallen down a bit of a slope, and for some reason the game drops to a few frames a second or even freezes for a second.

Same here on the Switch the fps drops down to single digits and sometimes there is a slight freeze

120 shrines isn't enough? wha? I found myself wishing there were fewer, but more substantial shrines/dungeons, or even better, more areas like Hyrule castle.
Why not both?

I really like the shrines as punctuation throughout the landscape, and I think their quick travel function is well implemented. But I've only found 18 so far and I've been playing dozens of hours. Since the start, I've basically been traveling from mountaintop to mountaintop, so I only get shrines that are high up or clearly visible from the peaks. It would be nice to find them more often.

Switch users maybe you could try this fan "fix" for better framerate

At home I turn on WiFi only when I need it basically, so it’s not always available. During the Setsuna session I checked the status LED and sure enough it was off. I then delved into the Internet settings of the Switch, found the “Auto Connect” option and turned it off, and Voilà, no more FPS issues in Setsuna and FAST RMX! And only the “usual” minor ones in BotW in very specific (foliage intensive) areas, no more heavy random ones.”

Are you guys finding the stamps sufficient for keeping track of stuff you've done/needs doing?

Thinking that when I play this I might make an image of the map that I can annotate properly. Can you buy a cloth map of it?

Wow, how are you guys filling up your hearts so quickly. Don't you have to do 4 shrines for one heart/stamina upgrade?

yeah, but as in any Zelda game
you also get a heart container when you beat a dungeon.

That's got to be the best boost possible. I've only seen up to +8.

Right! Maybe 5 big hearty radish. I haven't tried that one because they are more rare. I also read something about cooking under the red moon, so I don't know if that does anything to this recipe.

Some npc will give you hints on how to find some of them, you should talk to everyone, day and night! Also Maybe you're just unlucky, found ton of them with the towers and mountains

We're in the same boat. If you find something, please share it! I thought about making my own but there are so many landscape features and the map is so large that I'm not willing to invest the time.

Could be. I've only had one or two escape me once the proximity sensor goes off. I don't know how close you have to be for it to sense them.

How can I perform the Shield-board jump trick? I thought I was done by doing a spin attack while shield-boarding but it didn't work.

I tackled my first one at 9 hearts and a couple stam upgrades, I did the second last night at 10 hearts and 4 stam upgrades.

I personally feel like I probably should have started doing them sooner. The two that I have done have
both been fucking awesome, especially Van Ruta
, though they
were both fairly easy, especially Van Medoh
not to mention that
they give special abilities that make exploring or fighting easier.

I'd keep going on shrines, until you get bored of adventuring around in the world and doing shrines when you find them, and then sprinkle in the Beasts. And get that stamina up. Now I have two full bars of stam, and it's game changing.

Just do whatever you feel like whenever you feel like it. Keep in mind you can always make food or potions to compensate for attack/defense shortcomings if you feel like you're getting outclassed. I did my first beast with like five hearts and no stamina upgrades.

Cool, I am starting the
Goron beast quest
and this looks amazing, I think I'll do 2 beasts and then will go for more Shrines. this game man, this game.

yeah I am, I don't think I've found something that either wasn't already noted on the map once you get there (like a town or special location) or anything that I didn't have a unique stamp for. I've been using the pot with lid for cooking locations, skull for boss encounters, sword for places where good weapons will be, that rupee looking thing I've been using for goddess statues, and I don't really use any of the other ones. I had a star on eventide island for a bit because I didn't beat it at first and wanted to do other things.

Without too much help, I need some help, lol.

So, I'm over 30+ hours in and just unlocked the
taking photos
ability. I went back to Impa, who gave me a quest for my new found ability. Is there any easy way to find the locations of where the
photos were taken?

Thanks in advance.
