Maybe a lot of Iranian Americans are like that in places like California where they're more insulated and protected from racism, but it isn't like that everywhere. One of my best friends growing up was half Iranian, half white and my best friend in college was full Iranian (both 2nd generation Americans) and neither of them had viewpoints anywhere close to that of Jafari.

That said the Iranian American community is one of the most educated and affluent immigrant communities in the country. Maybe that has biased their views towards other minorities in the US?

There's a lot of layers to that, but the most striking to me would be that Hollywood cinema has long dined out on an exotic, orientalist stereotyping of countries and people from places such as India, which is rooted in colonialism and comes out of a mix of a sense of cultural superiority and patronisation. Hollywood is being lambasted for perpetuating those stereotypes and being urged to turn away from them - just as it's being encouraged to be more representative of a diverse USA.

The irony is that Bollywood is actually under lots of pressure to be more diverse - particularly in terms of the roles of women in films and the lower representation given to actors/stories from Bengali, Gujarati and Goan cultural backgrounds etc. It's just less visible here as this is a predominantly Western messageboard.

All of those answers were entirely relevant to the point you were trying to make. Please explain to me why it would be inappropriate too bring up concerns of diversity in a nation that was stolen from and rebuilt by minorities.

For one, a little under half the country doesn't even watch Bollywood movies because Hindi is not their first language. That portion of the population has their own film industries.
 
I would advise anyone who openly wants to play Devil's Advocate to, you know, maybe have thicker skin.

India is massively multicultural and there's loads and loads of current and historical debate and arguments over that. India, the nation state, is a colonial construct - it encompasses vastly different cultures from different regions within its formal borders.

It's a shame that Jontron is such a scumbag. I was introduced to his videos by a friend a few years ago and thought they were really entertaining. However, as I learned more about his anti-immigrant and anti-feminist tendencies, the more I grew disgusted with him as a person and won't support him with my clicks or my time. There are better people out there to give my attention to.

Yup I'm Irish and have read quite a bit about anti-Irish prejudice over the years so to hear JonTron claim anti-Irish Nativist prejudice wasn't a thing was tragi-comic. In light of everything else he went on to say and advocate it was a small thing but it totally feeds into the 'model minority' issue. JFK had to give a speech in 1960 explaining that being Catholic didn't mean that the Pope would be his boss ffs (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=16920600). Yet because official Irish America (such as Rep Peter King, whoever organises St Paddy's Day parades over there) has been so loudly advocating hateful BS just like the 'native' white supremacists for so long idiots like JonTorn think we were always welcomed as 'fellow whites'.
