Injustice 2 Roster Discussion & Speculation Thread

I want Lex because he's freaking Lex. The Big Three should have their archenemies in the game.

Sinestro and Black Manta should really be included, too.

I'm pissed that Lex and Sinestro are gone... but come on, it's the Clown Prince of Crime. Be more mad at Black Adam returning.

So? Lex is as important to Superman as Joker is to Batman. They both are in the same exact situation: the Injustice universe version is dead while the "main" universe is alive. One is back, the other isn't.

Ed Boon said:
We weren't going to have a DC game without Superman, Batman, Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman. You have to have Luthor, you have to have Joker. All these guys. That kind of fills up 60 - 75% of the cast. And then you start getting into the more obscure ones like Penguin, Lobo, and other ones like that. It becomes more about which ones we can fit into the story, which ones DC wants.

Guess who's the literal only person from that list that didn't make it. Jimmies. Rustled.

That was about I1, which was their first "true" DC universe game, but after that all bets are off as we've seen.

You'd think so but why is Hal a GL again, why is Joker in? They resurrected or whatever the thing with Joker is and made sure "the" Green Lantern was GL in this game but leave out Superman's most important foe? If you can find a way to fit in Joker you can find a way to fit in Lex.

I expected Lex might return if we had more than the now confirmed, 28 character roster, but I honestly don't care for him and I don't think NRS was obligated to include him. He died a hero in the first game and although that doesn't stop NRS from bringing him back not unlike other characters, such as Green Arrow and the Joker, who have returned in spite of their deaths, he might not figure into the story NRS is telling with Injustice 2. Joker's return is going to have resonance with many characters, given his significant role in bringing about the radical changes of the Injustice Earth.

Not fitting in the story means nothing when you consider Bane/Grundy served no story purpose in IGAU and I can't wait to see the importance of Joker when we have like 4 stories already jammed into the plot.

We don't even know how the Joker returns yet. He might only appear in a flashback sequence or as a manifestation of Superman's mind. If Lex figured into NRS's plans for Injustice 2, he'd be on the roster. You can't hold this game's roster to the same "rules" as the first. It was important for NRS to have as many iconic and well-known heroes and villains as possible in the first game. The series has proven itself already and established a fanbase. It doesn't need to have these characters in every franchise entry.

No idea. My guess is they felt they did their due dilligence with the first DC game, but wanted a new "big bad" and thought Luthor didn't make as much sense when not running the show as the main enemy in the game. Perhaps they had usage data showing he wasn't as popular with players, so there was both a gameplay and story reason for the call.

That's terrible, might as well bring Doomsday back if that's all it takes for Joker to be in and Lex's death was the start of his worst descent in game as that's when people started turning on him as he chocked his best friend in front of a news copter. Yet people keep arguing that you need as many Batman characters as we have to appeal to casuals. If the brand was established you definitely wouldn't have to find a way to bring Joker back.

I can't figure Joker was played a ton more than Lex considering he's widely regarded as the worst character in the game and he's in the same position in-story as Lex. If they felt they did their due diligence then there is no reason for Joker to return.

I could totally see him being used much more when you consider casual single player and casual local play, even if he was bad competitively. I think a lot of people would see him as having much more fun factor for pick up and play.

I just don't see a reason for Joker's inclusion except he's The Joker.

Joker single-handedly corrupted Superman, killed his family and destroyed Metropolis. He put Superman on the path to the Regime. His actions have affected the lives of every character and bringing him back has significant narrative possibilities.

Oh yeah, I guess he was the catalyst for everything, even if the original one is out. I'm rusty on the story.

If NRS wanted Lex Luthor in the game they could throw him in a flashback scene or use a different Earth’s Lex or even bring him back from the dead. Bane, Solomon Grundy, and Killer Frost were practically irrelevant to the first game’s story and could have been swapped with anyone else. Lex doesn’t need to be front and center in Injustice 2’s story to warrant inclusion.

Speaking as a fan drawn to the “museum of icons” appeal of crossover fighters, I consider Lex Luthor one of about a dozen characters who should be included in a DC fighter no matter what. His absence definitely stings, especially in a roster this big. It’s like cutting Bowser or Ganondorf from the next Smash Bros. I don’t care if there’s a story or gameplay justification for it — it just doesn’t feel right.

I had a lot more fun playing as The Joker then Lex, so I'm ok with it.

The only cool thing Lex had was his Super, which would have been changed for the sequel.

Yes he was but narratively how is Joker's return going to make Superman any worse than he is? I'd say seeing Green Arrow, his first Hero kill, is likely to affect him more than seeing Joker again. Fear toxin I feel like would be seeing Doomsday/Lois again more than Joker. Also how did word of Joker not reach Superman in IGAU?

There's nothing stopping NRS from bringing back Lex Luthor via DLC. I for one, am happy to see that NRS isn't beholden to maintaining a specific roster of characters and can largely change them up with each entry. Given the scope of the DC universe, I think such an approach serves the franchise better.

It's not about making Superman worse, nor should Joker's return solely affect Superman. Harley Quinn for example, has become somewhat of a hero, albeit with her own twisted motives. Joker's return is surely going to throw her attempt to change into turmoil.

What narrative possibilities does bringing Lex Luthor back offer Injustice 2?

LOL at Luce, best use of that image ever.

I personally think we haven't seen the last of Lex and he'll make an appearance in story mode or something. And as others have said, I'm totally fine with his exclusion on the roster as well. I absolutely hated his playstyle and character design in IJ1 haha. In fact I think it makes more sense for him to be a narrative inclusion only.

So a regression of Harley since she was "over" the Joker in IGAU and potentially something for Supes.

He was the best friend of Superman that was secretly funding the Insurgency whom Superman killed with his bare hands in front of the World. There's probably something there.

Edit: Also the storyline that casuals are familiar with of Lex becoming obsessed with Brainiac.

You're ignoring the bigger picture. Every character's life has been changed indirectly as a result of Joker's actions and thus would be impacted by his return. I offered just one example off the top of my head as to how the Joker's return might affect an individual character, such as Harley Quinn.

You say she's "over" the Joker, but we already know thanks to her bio that she is seeking revenge for the Joker's death. He is the motivation for her heel turn. A reveal that the Joker was in fact alive or had returned would have ramifications for her. Would her quest for revenge and consequent heroic turn fall apart? Or would she stay her path? Is this even her Joker? Could Batman only apprehend the Joker, after the damage he has done to their Earth, or would he too be tempted to end his life? What if this Joker comes from another Earth? Will he still be held accountable for the millions lost to Metropolis' destruction?

There are wider narrative possibilities afforded by the Joker's return than Lex's, in the context of him being the catalyst for the Injustice series. I don't know that Injustice 2 has room to explore them, however, given we already have the looming threat of Brainiac, the Secret Society of Super Villains and Superman's escape.

Btw, Tyler is asking for questions for the stream tomorrow over on Reddit. I asked if there will ever be a mode where we can disable gear stats but keep abilities. If you're curious also up vote my comment and hopefully he'll answer, or if you have a question ask it there! Somebody straight up asked if he'll answer any questions that have any importance to them hahaha.

I think Lex should be represented in the series somewhere, he's an important DC character and to the Injustice universe. But I don't care if he's playable. When I think Lex, first and foremost I think a power suit, not a "power suit".

I was going to ask about the character boxes on the web page, but that's essentially been answered now.

That's pretty much my takeaway. Even as a kid who collected the Super Powers figures, I was never fond of the whole power suit thing for him for hand-to-hand combat, so not having him be playable as a fighter is not a huge loss to me.

On that note, I'm really happy Dr. Fate is in, as that was one of the more rare Super Powers figures I never got and always stared at on the back of the card.

I almost started collecting DC HeroClix when I was younger. God I'm glad I didn't get sucked into that wormhole.

Oh god there's even a dedicated Flash set with a figure of me in there

Can you link me to this question so I can up vote it? Haha

I have two boxes of these... I managed to find the original starter set for less than half the retail price. I haven't seen the dedicated Flash expansion, but I do have the Blackest Night '7 figure starter', with Blue Lantern Flash.

Less than three hours to go until the stream. I'm so excited to see Cheetah in action.

Also, NRS gave Cheetah pointier teeth, likely in response to the complaints.

She looks awful in general.

I don't know how to make a weird furry character look cool, but this is definitely not the way.

Definitely using the CW skin for GA.

Actually that's a lie, I will never touch him because NRS didn't fix any of the input problems from I1, so any character with a BF move is basically unsable for me, so no GA.

You guys would WILLINGLY subject yourselves to Stephen Amell's wooden performance instead of getting to hear Alan Tudyk as Green Arrow, just because you hate a design you can radically change with gear?

Depends on whether or not you can change that beard.
