The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild |OT2| It's 98 All Over Again

Ha! I love the Mexican standoffs between me and the Lynels - both sides staring at each other with respect waiting till someone makes the first move. If you are quick you can draw your bow than and begin the battle with a head shot that will enable you to mount him right away! Pretty good start in this fight!

There were maybe five basic enemy types across 98% of the map, which is a shame since I looooved the moments when I encountered new enemies like Lynels and Hinoxs, or the moment when I finally learned to take down Guardians. But those moments were tucked between ~30 hours of the same stuff I encountered in the tutorial area.

While I agree that there should be more monsters, why do people keep saying there were so few?

Then the 4 dungeon bosses and the final boss, which only sort of count since they don't respawn (though I'm not actually sure if #20 respawns and I'm so pissed at myself for forgetting to take a picture), I'm also missing something from the group of 15-19 so there's possibly one more there, plus the
Sentries from the lead-up to the fire dungeon
and the mostly defunct stationary Guardians I didn't know if they should count or not.

Still, though. 11 main bad guys, 9 of which have at least 4 variations and some as many as 8, isn't too shabby IMO, especially when you add in the overworld mini bosses that also come in 3-4 varieties and appear in many places. I'd love for there to be more, I miss ReDead and Poe and Skulltulas, but it's still many more than people seem to remember.

Can we actually ride lynels? A dude on youtube went through 11 stamina bars and then ran out of elixirs without much success.

These guys are evolving. I thought it was just rocks but they chuck whatever they can find at you.

I havent gotten that quest yet. How do you start it?

He just wanted to play some soccer.

Oh I should find a group of Bokoblins and a roll a bomb around with them. Super Zelda Strikers lets go.

Quest start spoilers follow:
There's a shrine to the southeast of Gerudo Town with an NPC that initiates the quest to get a specific item.

Also, are pre-looted chests actually a thing? in my 60+ hours of playtime I haven't run into any. I have had rainstorms appear out of nowhere though. As in, sunny forecast then sudden rain for a few in-game hours. I'm not talking about the predetermined rain spots either.

Man I just want LikeLikes. They're scary af and have interactions with shields (similar to many other things in this game). I feel like they would have been perfect.

ok two days in a row my 8 bit link amiibo has said "you can't use this again today"

It's been 3 days since I could use it. WTF???

My amiibo started doing that to me after daylight saving time on Sunday. Had to close the game completely and restart it. (I was always leaving it in sleep mode up to that point.)

EDIT: Beaten.

What I love about this game is that I can go into this thread, after having played for dozens of hours, and learn things I didn't even know existed. This world is ginormous.

Is there a point to the island next to (what I presume)
lost woods
with the single tree on it? I floated down and lit the bonfire, waited til night, killed the ridiculous mobs and that was it. Do you have to complete
lost woods
first?

Finally decided to go ahead and finish the game. All I can say is wow. I haven't been that captivated with an ending in quite some time. That was probably the best 70 hours I've put into anything recent, and only ended up with a completion % just a hair over 25!

I need to palate cleanse with another game and will probably come back again, but this game was phenomenal!

So I lost my first horse yesterday (Howrz). Rode it into battle, but afterwards it was nowhere to be seen and wouldn't answer my call. Then I went to the stable to get it back, but it wasn't on the list. And THEN the realization hit me. Felt worse than I expected, maaan =/

Luckily I found an NPC around the Faron region that told me about a spring that lets you revive your horse. I'll look for it later.

Also, the fact they have so many different moves, behaviours and weapons make them quite different from themselves. Fighting a Bokoblin with a Sword, with a Bow or riding a horse are all novel moments. Even the environment in which they are located makes each encounter unique.

Enemy diversity is compensated by gameplay diversity.

you get on their back and slash them with your weapon a few times then get bucked off. you don't tame them and ride em around...... which would RULE.

I wandered back to the zora Lynel b/c I forgot I had already gone there and didn't feel like fighting him, so I jumped off and sailed away...even pretty far away the MFer was volleying triple shock arrows at me, I could see them falling right behind me a couple times.

I think the problem is that, despite the massive increase in size of the world, that's way fewer enemy types than the others, particularly Twilight Princess, since that's the most recent other console Zelda release (the HD version anyway). I had a rough count, and following the same estimates (counting all variations of keese as one monster, for example), I'm pretty sure TP got somewhere between 30-40 monster types anyway. Not counting minibosses. Going from >30 with variations to 11 with variations, compounded by a much larger world, is always going to feel like there's less content.

hopefully the DLC will add more enemies. redeads, like likes, poes, Darknuts, and iron knukles. Redead knights showing up during a blood moon would be cool.

Eh, having less than a dozen regular enemy types certainly isn't much. Especially since some of them are special enough that you even see the need to spoiler them.

I can understand why there aren't more of them considering how detailed each and every one of them is. The animations and the way they can interact with the environment are top notch. However, I can also understand why it's disappointing to explore a huge open world only to encounter the same handful of enemies most of the time. An open world like Zelda's is all about the sense of discovery and the feeling of encountering entirely new sets of enemies in a new region is certainly helping that.

Not a huge issue, but definitely something they can improve on in a sequel.

BotW seems to have more enemy types than your average open world game, but far less than your average Zelda game. It's not been a huge issue for me personally, but I look forward to them addressing this in the follow-up game.

So I can't possibly believe this is how this puzzle is meant to be solved... and its driving me nuts (also how I solved it was cool)

Divine Beast
Lizard

There is one torch that needs to be lit blue that is behind a door that has a little hole in it and you can see the torch on the other side. I had all the other parts activated and just needed that one and it was driving me nuts. Trying to spin the room and stuff so that I could shoot an arrow through a blue flame and through the hole in the door... no dice.

How I solved it - Light a torch with a blue flame. Climb the stairs to the left of the door in question. A little way up the stairs (you should be next to a lattice (?) wall, and you can see the room we are trying to access through it. Then spin the lizard. Now that lattice wall becomes the floor you are standing on. Look through the lattice and move the camera until you can see the torch/brazier we are trying to light. Once you see it, throw your lit torch at the ground, then shoot an arrow through its flame and light the brazier.

Is that how everyone did it? Seemed so hacky (but awesome). Does anyone know how its "supposed to be done"?

Simply walk up to a lit torch with your bow drawn. Your arrow will catch fire, and from there you can move freely over to the door to shoot it through.

Hahahaha, thats amazing I'm so dumb. Incredible that it can be done other ways tho.

Speaking of arrow physics... I tried to blow out a rock wall high up on a cliff face on death mountain by flying over to it and shooting a bomb arrow... and as soon as I equipped the arrow it blew up in my face. Thought that was pretty damn cool.

50+ hours in and this game keeps amazing me.

Can you believe in GTA 5 the only enemies were humans. Can't believe how little variety that game had.

/s

The criticism is a little more valid for a game about a fantasy world where literally any kind of creature could plausibly show up. BoTW doesn't have a ton of monster variety.

I did not photograph the
Elephant Divine Beast
boss aka
Water Ganon
, nor the
dragon
at the top of Lanyaru.

Am I fucked?

Did I miss them forever from my Compendium? :(

Yiga Clan question (for those done with hideout):

On my first attempts; I would trip an alarm, but clear the room of enemies. After killing a big Yiga swordsman, I got his cool wind sword and took a picture of it for my Compendium. Dying later on though forces you to restart the entire hideout.

When I finally completed the hideout, it was in a full stealth run where I Sneakstrike'd every swordsman. None dropped their sword as a result, and so my current Save does not actually have the wind sword added to my Compendium.

Will I run into these dudes and their swords later, for Compendium purposes?

Yep, you will.

I hear you can get boss pics elsewhere.

You can find homie in the North at night though. Go up on a mountain in the North West at night and look around

Can't stop playing this, I found myself playing till 2am-3am in the morning.

I'm 30 and I haven't done like this in years.
That was me the other night. I was never a huge Zelda fan. I liked them, but this game is love for me. I went in expecting far less than I got.

If i leave weapons on the floor in my home, will they disappear?

EDIT: yep. Be careful.

You will absolutely have ample opportunity for that.

In my case, however, I forgot to take a picture of the boss and I think I'm screwed.

You can climb the spire just fine with a single stamina upgrade. I explored Hyrule castle a couple times immediately after the Great Plateau.

Do all chests respawn at the blood moon?

Weird. I got caught at the top lip when I first tried. It wasn't a stamina problem for me. Maybe I missed the spot to get around it.

Some chests respawned, but I don't think all of them did. There were a few missing from the tops of towers that I'm pretty sure were there before.

You can climb to
the tip top of the tallest tower. I did. In fact I think there's a korok seed up there. You just didn't do it right :)

Figures. Didn't seem like something Nintendo would restrict. Maybe I was just too tired to see how the first time. Second time I got to a lip right below the roof, and gusted up there.

Just watched a video on how other people did it. I feel like an idiot now. Haha.

Yeah I did all this before getting the
camera
. So I'm screwed also, oh well, I'd love to play through a second time anyway, just to do the story and some favorite side missions.

You don't have to fight everything is my main tip. It's a scary world, and sneaking/running is 100% legit strategy.

Also, if you get too frustrated doing one thing, then just go do something else and come back later.

Take your time. Don't use any guides.

And be sure to really observe your surroundings and try a lot of different things.

You are going to die a lot in the game.
Thanks gang. It's just weird that I was dying in a Zelda game... and so early on! I assumed I was doing something wrong so I came here, haha. Any tips for combat at the start? I've got this axe but it's so slow and clunky. I hope I get something decent soon.
