there could be a day one patch
There seems to be a fundamental problem with the way they did faces and facial animation rigs in the videos I've watched, but the quality varies. They'd have to go through every single frame. You might be better off asking for a new game, unless Bioware Montreal has some easily implementable secret magic animation technology that I've never heard about. It would probably be a band-aid to the animations if they made better eyes at the very least.
Mass Effect Andromeda |OT| Galaxy of the silly walks
To me, this looks like some internal reference animation, like, a first pass for them to use as a reference when it's time to polish everything, but that time never came and the game was released as soon as it was content complete.
Because it's not just typical bad, a lot of the animations are like they didn't even try.

Pure gold thread, but jokes aside I think I'm gonna skip this one. This thread surely helped.
Even Battlefield has better facial animations than this.Wrong. Frostbite 3 is just a bad engine for such a game. It is great for Battlefield, but it is not the right choice for an RPG. They should have decided for Unreal Engine 4. Facial animations would look way better then.
Just finished watching a bunch of footage, including GiantBomb's.
It's just horribly unpolished. You would think that the devs would realize that the faces are terrible and pick better default camera angles. They just keep zooming into the poor textured, badly lit, dead faces. Like zooming in really far. It's like they want me to hate it.
mmmmm that's not really true, it's about the animators and the standards they are to be working towards rather than the engine itself.Wrong. Frostbite 3 is just a bad engine for such a game. "As you've seen, we are willing to make moves in launch date if we feel it's necessary to deliver the right player experience. And our guidance assumes that Mass Effect continues to be in this [fiscal] year, but it gives us some flexibility that we might choose to move it either a week or three or four or five months if we have to based on what we want to make sure in terms of delivering the right experience for the player."
"We also know we need the right amount of time to make sure we deliver everything the game can be and should be – that's our commitment from all of us to all of you."
"BioWare" is just the name of the organisation, they are different teams within that umbrella.BioWare just got removed from my AAA list.
This is unacceptable for a 5 year development cycle.
The craziest thing is how easy this would have been to fix. All they had to do was darken the iris and increase the iris size. That's all I've done to the following image and she all of a sudden doesn't look completely insane.

I'm getting flashbacks to Assassin's Creed Unity here...
I can't wait for the romance scenes.

What bugs me most about this isn't the walk, but rather the guy on the right who's frozen in place.

DA:I was on frostbite though, facial animations weren't this bad.
worth noting that dragon age was early frostbite 3, but yeah, the engine really isn't to blame for this, if they wanted good character rendering they could have either worked on it themselves or asked the dev to add it to the engine early on when they realised it wasn't where they needed it to be.And yet people are saying Dragon Age: Inquisition was more impressive than this with its face models, and wasn't that game solid overall with its technical performance? It's not like there's no precedent for RPGs on Frostbite.

I was laughing so hard watching Blood trying to ignore the T pose.

This is what hurts me the most, they worked on this game for 5 years, 5 YEARS... for this jank fest.
The game itself probably will be decent, but holy shit, those animations are simply not good enough when they legitimately look worse from their previous games.

SERIOUSLY, what is she looking at!?
