Mass Effect: Andromeda - EA/Origin Access trial coming March 16th - 10 hour trial

Enjoy the game, just needs patching a LOT. Seems like EA rushed it out of the door after saying "no more delays".

Barring some weird scripting choices, "my face is tired", "he didn't like that cause I shot him in the face" the story's premise is interesting so far. I want to find out more.

Character creation is bad and eyes look weirdly lifeless.

Side quests seem decent so far, no find 10 ram meat to progress bullshit around anymore. There's an actual narrative purpose to doing the ones I found, giving you interesting lore and pieces of information. It feels more meaningful.

There is something so hate-able about her character and the way she looks. The crazy thing is the voice actor looks great in real life, they did a bad job for the in game model and animations despite good source material.

Her voice acting in the game is top notch and it just makes it even better with a created character.

The person the character is modeled after and the voice actor are 2 different people (That's not judgement on either's looks!)

Ive heard this echoed by many people now and it makes me happy. I don't need side quests to be the best thing ever, but if they hold my interest that's enough.

So for me, MP was janky as fuck. I enjoyed the mechanics when everything was working, but I was constantly teleporting all over the place, dashing but then getting sent back, having enemies appear out of nowhere...

I assume those were lag/connection issues?

I would guess that with a limited sample of people playing MP you may be matching with others far away. When the game launches and there are much more players, it should be a lot more stable I'd think.

I feel surprisingly negative on Andromeda after playing a couple hours. I may just have rose-tinted nostalgia when thinking about the earlier entries. I don't know. Maybe I'll warm to it when the game opens up more. I'm still going to play the whole game though.

I guess I never realized how many gamers expect Oscar worthy dialogue in their games. It is what it is, but I think alot of gamers are just fickle. I think people like to feel a part of something and will bandwagon just to be a part. I'm not saying everyone but I'm sure many that seem to revel in dog piling on games are doing just that, they don't wanna be the guy who says it's fun because... That'd be crazy, how can it be fun when probably a total of 5 minutes of dialogue or 10 minutes, with some shotty animations sums up the whole entire game?

Well to be fair there are some bizarrely awful NPC conversations, both in how they look and how they are voice acted/scripted. Mostly its fine, but the bad stuff really sticks out - eg the face is tired woman will be seen by everyone who plays the game, so its bizarre they kept it in - they should have redone it or just cut it, doesnt seem like she is that important a character anyway.

It does start off slow. Took me close to 3 hrs to get to the Tempest and I didn't mull over all the codex entries or listen to all the recordings.

I've heard from a ton of people it starts slow. That's fine with me I've never been one to need a Mass Effect 2 level opening. I mean it helps but I can deal with a slow burn.

I need someone to tell me why Male Sheps voice is no bueno though. Can't you mold his personality anyway?

Damn, is the male voice really that bad?
I loved the male Shepard voice from the trilogy. Especially "and this is my favorite store on the Citadel."

Going to start my playthrough tonight after work. People veering towards FemRyder, in terms of voice? How bad is Male?

That's what I wanna know too. It eems like people find FemRyder more enjoyable in terms of VO, it seems the Voice Actress for FemRyder has more experience too, but of course without playing the game it isn't really fair to dismiss MaleRyder right out of the gate.

I'm wondering whether to buy this on PC or PS4.
I don't care about graphics or FPS.

Are the controls better suited for M/KB or controller?
Are load times okay on PS4 or would my PC's SSD make it much less annoying?

Reason I asked is because it happened in all 4 matches I played, across 2-3 different groups.

I got two games in last night, the first one I got into was a complete mess, the second was perfect. I think once the game releases for real and we have a wider pool of players the P2P connections will be (hopefully) a bit better.

Yeah, I usually enjoy slow starts. Just not this time. I think I'm just over critical of some faults because I really enjoyed ME 1-3. I notice myself being slightly upset with myself that I don't like small things like where the camera sits while your gun is holstered.

As I said though, I think I will warm to it once I put more time into it.

So the character creation is by far my biggest complaint with the game.
It seems you choose from preset faces with no abilities to change some parts of your face like eye shape, ears, nose. At most you have a slider to change the length, width, and depth.

I rushed through the character creation, someone please tell me I'm wrong.

You're not wrong. Also mentioned in a different thread by Lime that there'll be a patch post-launch that will add more customization options

I replayed the original trilogy in preparation for this coming out.. and I'm still somehow disappointed in the graphics/faces on xb1.

I've only played about 45 minutes so I'm hoping that changes, tho. Its not looking good from the outset, and I kinda wanna go pc when it actually comes out, but I might just stick w this version since my gtx770 probably wouldn't do much better.

Slightly bummed out atm.

Tried this last night hoping it would help me decide between the PS4 and PC versions and all it has done is confuse me even more. Looks like I am able to play with most things set to medium with a few on high and still maintain a stable frame rate. Really wish I could try out the PS4 version and compare quality/frame rate against the two.

Do we have an ETA on the patch? As someone who spends 15+ minutes in games creating characters this is essential for me to play the game.

Dont know why yet but Eos isn't exactly all that interesting to me. I thought the same when I saw the video and now while playing as well.

Yeah I got to Eos, had a quick look round, got the vehicle, picked up some ore or something that had no animation tied to it and stopped playing. I'm not feeling any burning desire to fire it up today.

starter areas are usually the least interesting, they just want you to learn the mechanics of terra forming and nomad controls etc.

How much is there to do singleplayer wise in the trial? Like can you get 10 hours of it?

I've played over 6 hours now, all singleplayer, and still not reached the end of the trial. I doubt I'm far away from it now, but there's a whole lot of gameplay here. I'm taking the time to speak to everyone and explore all the side quests and locations though, whilst I get the feeling a lot of people are somewhat rushing things in case they miss out on reaching the end of the trial story before the timer hits zero. Kinda makes me wish there was only a story cut-off point and no time limit.

Yeah, it's visually underwhelming, which is a shame given how good the original trilogy compared to its contemporaries. It's still a clear upgrade though, and the environments are stunning even if the character models aren't.

I've got a lot of game time in and feel a lot better about the story and the mysteries this game is setting up. Still not sold on a pre-order yet, and will definitely wait on reviews before deciding whether to buy on day one. But worst case scenario is that I buy the game after a price drop in a few months. It's certainly recaptured the Mass 1 feel for me, and I LOVE how Ryder has a science background rather than Shep's soldier background. That really appeals to me, and makes Ryder a lot more relatable.

Turning off CA and film grain made the game look better on xbone. Having those in by default is awful imo. Game plays well but damn that cringy dialogue and voice acting. Not to mention 360 era facial expressions. Plastic mannequins. Creepy.

Is there a way to turn off the Twitch overlay UI on Xbox One? It blocks subtitles, the dialog choices and I even had to watch my own stream configuring the brightness and such because it totally hides what buttons you need to press.

Sorry if this has been asked a million times already. I'm downloading the trial on Origin Access right now. Will I have to download the whole game again once the preload period starts? (I preordered the Deluxe Edition)

Btw, ME:A Trial Version and ME:A Deluxe Edition appear as two different entries in my library.

No specific day was mentioned. There'll be a day one patch, I believe, but I don't know if the customizations are part of that or not.

wait they gave the option to turn those off on the console versions!? I wanna give bioware a quality slowclap for that

What exactly does CA do?

As for the remnant decryption, I only have scanned two glyphs and don't see any others. How am I supposed to fix this decryption on the terminal?

Spent 3.5 Hours in MP last night on XB1, and really enjoyed what I played. I was in a party with 3 friends who are all located on West Coast USA, and we suffered occasional lag, especially 3 seconds into the game when the enemies first started appearing, but overall those drops weren't frequent beyond that.

  • The interface, like for ME3 MP, is a little confusing at first trying to find everything. Lots of tabs to get through in character customization.
  • I am not a fan of getting multiple cards of the same character to level up that character like you do guns. The first level gives you the character, the second gives you skill points, the third gives you an extra color customization option, not sure what the later level unlock, as it appears you can go to 10. I liked unlocking a character once better.
  • I am already up to a predator V, sigh.
  • The verticality in the maps is good. Although, it seemed like many platforms were placed just at the peak of my jump, and it was difficult to tell whether the game allows you make the jump, as it's unclear when the character will climb over the top of the wall. Had to find crates to jump on to reach the higher levels in many board.
  • On Bronze with low level characters and little items, the firefights were intense on the mission waves. The hack 3 points (A, B, C) seemed the hardest missions for us to complete, as the points were exposed and usually were swarming with enemies. The hack 4 computers (1,2,3,4) seemed more hidden, and easier; and the hack 1 point was the easiest.
  • Sticking with Basic Packs at the beginning until I have more leveled up basic weapons and characters. Must resist burning ME:A credits on advanced packs.
  • The combos feel rewarding, and the sound on a succesful combo is nice. Had a good time with the cryo combos with the base level engineer. Seems like far more skills prime/detonate this game making nearly every class capable of being a combo participant. My soldier was detonating combos with her disruptive shot.

I really like Sara's look in the game but she does smile at inopportune times.

Game is fun, still in the prologue (about to get the Tempest) but I'm positive so far. Checked out of the discussion until I got some of my own impressions in.

Glad to hear you're warming up to it. I can usually overlook graphics stuff, and internet/GAF hyperbole makes me laugh most of the time, so this is a legit shock to me lol. The environments from what I've seen do look really good tho. I'll probably still pick it up at launch and overlook the negatives.. I love this series too much haha.
