Mass Effect: Andromeda - EA/Origin Access trial coming March 16th - 10 hour trial

Don't forget the dad likeness is only mimicking the male preset equivalent.

Even when they're different races.......

If you pick a hispanic girl and the male number equivalent is black, you get a black dad.

This wasn't my experience. I made a brown female Ryder and I didn't feel like wasting any of my 10hrs on the male, so I kept him default. Papa Ryder shows up looking like a suave-ass Ricky Ricardo motherfucker, I love it.

IDK, I'm kinda feeling the opposite.
Big bad alien leader with a comically evil cape? Sure, whatever. But the scene lasts for like twice as long as it should've, as if players would be too slow to pick up on what's going on if they literally didn't spell it out to you with dramatic camera angles and lingering contemplative gazes. No subtlety whatsoever. To me, it only stands out because everything in the mission beforehand was lacking gravitas. Characters are spouting one-liners nonstop right out of the gate with some pretty major events getting drowned out by combat scenarios. :(

Agree about the lack of dialog being a nice way to introduce something, though.

Oh, for sure. I won't deny that it's only the best scene in the game so far (to me) because the rest of the cutscenes and all the accompanying dialogue has been mediocre at best =P

I just spoke to a scientist on the ship called Suvi (I think?) and she offered to hand over her 60 page notes on Eos' geology and fauna. I assumed I'd get some Codex info out of it, but it sounded awesome, and with Ryder having a science background I assumed that would come across in the convo as well. But nope, Ryder makes a bad joke about 60 pages being a problem, and Suvi acts like she thinks I meant 60 pages was "barely even a summary" and not long enough. All followed up by an email to my ship's computer containing the file, which is so long the email system assumed it was spam and quarantined it. Bloody hell, Bioware. I can embrace a bit of science in my games. Don't act like this game only appeals to jarheads whose heads will spin at the sight of numbers and full on paragraphs, reducing science talk to bad jokes.

Do we know from any previews(i didn't read them) what the missions consist of? because for example i sure hope we don't have to scan those kind of structures for glyphs and using those consoles in every damn map for the main quest. Is there any word on that?

Sadly this trial has far from convinced me to get it on day one.

Quick question. If you download the game via EA Access. Can you use the same files for when the game is released? I prefer not to have to download 60GB again.

Still can't believe uninstalling the Corsair Utility Engine made the game launch for me.

Can I reinstall it and still have the game launch or nah?

I didn't say it was based off the brother.

I said it was based off the male preset.

You just happened to pick a preset that matched the male version.

Some presets do not match.

Yes, that's typically how it works. There might be a patch to install, but unless something goes massively wrong, you won't have to re-install the big file.

Holy fuck this game is bad.

There is so many bugs, janky AF and MP is totally broken for the most part.

What options menu even is this, eh...

Jeeeesus EA, how

Other than the dead eyes and weird hair that is an attractive looking FemRyder, way better looking than the default one. Do you have the preset for this? I'd like to play as this FemRyder instead of default. I hope she doesn't look weird in motion.

It's 9.

There's a couple of decent hair option. Make sure not to pick a too dark or too light hair color, same for eyes and skin tone. And she'll look decent. (for the game's standards)

Your dad will be black so pretend you're adopted.

This game's multiplayer needed beta so fucking hard.
There are so many bugs and interface (its speed also) is atrocious.
Such a fun game hidden behind technical mess ;/ I hope they working hard on a big patch right now.

That fucking download speed...

I'm just under halfway and have 5 hours to go.

I'm downloading at about 7.80mb/s which will take me about 1 hour and 37 mins to complete.

Which is odd.. since my normal internet speed is about 98mb/s. Guess Origin internet download speed wouldn't nearly be as fast.

Your normal internet speed is that much?

I don't want to know what you consider high-speed internet!

Well... That's the speed it gives me when I got on Speedtest.net

Around 98mb/s. My steam and PS4 download speed are no where near that though. I don't even pay that much for mine. I have like the 2nd lowest tier with Comcast. Which is at max 50mb/s I think. Guess I got a boost if they're giving me 98mb/s?

Starting to wonder if I should wait until June or July to start my playthrough, when it's hopefully patched well enough. I do have Mankind Divided and Dishonored 2 to play until then.

How large is the download if using the EA Access on PC? Is it 60gigs for the trail or do you only download part of it to play the trial?

Does the dad change based on the character? Because I was very distracted for a while looking at the dad and thinking, "I don't think this guy can be Sarah's dad." :P

People on this forum expected this game to be 100% perfect i don't. you people don't understand they're people creating this game not some Ai. of course they're going to be mistakes in this game we're human For god sake.

I was just gonna wait until the game was $20 to buy it, but with so many people crapping on the game I feel I need to get Origin Access for a month and see whats up before I potentially waste that money. Hopefully Unravel will make up for the subscription if Mass Effect turns out to suck.

You are confusing megabytes and megabits. They are completely different. Speedtest.net is giving you megabits whereas most download speeds on game clients are megabytes.

I finished the prologue last night, which I didn't love but I often haven't for the last several BioWare games and still found myself mostly enjoying them with some qualifications. I've barely had time to say "hello" to this new galaxy before we're thrown into a fight-for-your-life scenario and that just doesn't work when you're not invested in the characters. Give me reasons to care about them; don't tell me I need to because this is 'important.' One character delivers a typical Mass Effect chest-beating rally early on and no disrespect to the voice actor, who is absolutely talented, but it doesn't have the same effect as one coming from Anderson or Shepard because those are characters I know intimately. The first contact encounter is similarly rushed. Just compare it to the intro for Mass Effect 1, with its uneasy tension reinforced by eerie techno, broadly established space politics and a slowly unraveling mystery, to see where it falls flat. Things escalate far too quickly. It doesn't create the dizzying pace I believe BioWare is going for.

My reservations were tempered somewhat once I arrived at the Nexus, where I've just been flooded with new characters and Codex entries to explore. This is what I want. This is what I'm here for. I'm the guy who's excited about the new Mass Effect novels (admittedly this is because two of my favourite writers, Catherynne Valente and NK Jemisin are involved). I want to dig into the drama and the politics behind the scenes. I want to hear all about why the Quarians aren't here. This is where I feel this 10 hour trial is detrimental for my own personal enjoyment. I want to spend hours in the codex but there's a tug at the back of my mind telling me, "clock's ticking." So I think I'm just gonna mess around with multiplayer until the game fully unlocks and I can explore this new galaxy at my leisure.

other thoughts:

- Mass Effect has always had some of my favourite screen transitions in games so seeing that visualized in real-time when you're making planetfall for the first time was just really really cool.
- I am in love with these wide-open spaces. It impresses a sense of grandeur that I feel is important for a game about exploration.
- Not to be reductive or cross-referential, but the intro kinda reminded me of the intro to Inquisition and the Fade, also from Inquisition. Maybe it's the floating rocks and big explosion.
- I'm already interested to see what happens to Ryder after they're revived. It's a cool set-up the writers can have a lot of fun with.

Not feeling good about these negative early impression.

Figures though, the ONE time I pre-order a game, it's one one game that might not turn out as good as I had assumed.

I have no idea how many hours I have left, so I rather just play some side missions rather than start all over again with a customized character. Are there any characters with side missions on Eos at all or are they all found on the Nexus and Tempest?

This sounds like it could have been a quote from the game...

People being human doesn't negate very obvious issues. Humans made Horizon and Witcher 3 and those don't suffer from nearly the amount of issues shown thus far in ME:A. Maybe instead of simply ignoring issues and supporting a subpar product people could vote with their wallet, but we all know this game despite the issues will still sell millions.
