I would like to thank the members who took the time to answer my questions a while ago. I decided to play the game. It's great how you can save anywhere, auto-save every few minutes and teleporting to shrines/towers. This will allow me play the game at my own pace without affecting other games. So far my playthroug is around 40-50 minutes a day.

Impressions are currently positive but still waiting for something big to happen (still early and need to get the glider). My expectations might have skyrocketed due to all the positive impressions. I feel like something is missing while still being amazed about the ease of how you control Link, the freedom to go everywhere, the way story is told through gameplay and text etc.

Either I missunderstood or you are still in the tutorial.

Edit: the fact that most people dont realize the plateau is a forced tutorial area before they actually send you to the real game is impresive. It shows how well designed it is so most people think they are already in the main game.

Are diamonds used for anything important or can I just sell them?

They can be used to recraft the unique weapons and get some upgrades. While you can trade 10 luminous gems for 1 diamond, thats not a cost effective trade so I recommend you not to sell them unless you really need money.

I've come to the point where I actively seek out Guardians because shield parrying their asses is so uh delicious. And actually really not that difficult.

Lynels though, fuck em.

It's amazingly entertaining for me now to just
wail on them with the Master Sword and hear the music crescendo while you cut off their legs and flip them over. It's almost disappointing how easy they become with all the overpowered options you have dealing with them, but at least the game makes them satisfying to kill.

This wind trial shrine at Horon Lake (with the song from the Rito dude) is going way over my head. I already seemingly blew every rock, but I have no idea what line I need to take before landing on the thing. Where does the wind course start? It seems to go all over the place.

A hint?

If you're still there start at the very beginning of the wind trail and take the gust all the way around to the platform. You can land on rocks in between but stay out of the water.

Hard but posible. There are speedruns that beat the game in 1 hour by getting the exact weapons they need in the castle.

Good to hear, thanks.

I have quite a few 40+ weapons and bows after exploring the castle now, compared to my previous attempt where my best was a 26 sword.

(final boss light spoilers)
I found it interesting that neither Wind or Water Calamity Ganon do a full 3 hearts damage, while everything else in the castle does. I guess that's Nintendo wanting and expecting players to take on Ganon early.

In a snowy mountain, I came by a large Circular structure on the side of the mountain with what appears to be the top of a shrine with lightening bolts painted on the edges of the circular structure. Hints for this?
What does lighting bolts tell ya? It's a hint.
Do they
meet at the center to form an upward gush?
. Maybe I'm missing some rocks.
Yes. If the wind doesn't take you all the way to the pedestal you need to find more rocks to blow up.

I have about five diamonds. Always sell them, right? In the description is nothing about any other usage.

Apparently all the different minerals are used for something like recrafting unique weapons and upgrading armor so I would save unless you really need cash quick.

You're better off cooking and selling recipes.

Oh that was an amazing par of the game for me, I camr across it and tried many things like
shooting an electric arrow to the middle of the target while gliding
but didnt work. Eventually I just left to explore the rest of the area and something big happened (super spoilers of the worst kind avoid at all costs)
a thunder dragon was flying and i tried to chase it, the dragon guided me to that area again, it was a bit too far away so I knew I already lost him as I was barely chasing the tail, so whilr gliding to lower ground I notice the target is glowing, try the same thing as the last time and it works.

okay,. not going to read your tagged spoiler and go explore :)

Thanks

I used them for upgrades to my
Guardian bracelet
, I think the
fairies
upgrade any bracelet using diamonds.
Oh, I didn't know you could upgrade those. They seemed pointless to buy with only one level of resistance. Well I've only sold 3 diamonds and if I ever need more I can kill those rock monsters in Gerudo Highlands and/or sell luminous stones to that Zora guy. Easy. Too bad there isn't a weapon durability bracelet.

Hmmm good to know. I'll keep em then.

But I use a lot of my food. Sounds like I'm gonna be making a lot of food then, haha.

Thanks

I definitely didnt do what the other guy say about
bombing
, at least not in that area, I wonder if I accidentaly got the conditions to open the shirine and the thing that happened wasnt necesary.

Edit: or maybe I did but
I didnt get high enough from the wind to be able to shot an arrow to the target with the bows I had.

Yeah l think you're talking bollocks, the spin attack with two handed swords is the best move in the game.

I'm not saying the weapon doesn't matter. I'm saying if they didn't degrade and you just had a stock of each weapon that lasted forever the battle mechanics wouldn't change in any significant way. Making it so you need to stock up on weapons and shields because they'll inevitably break isn't making the combat "deeper".

If you haven't even gotten the glider yet your mind is gonna shit its pants later on.

Indeed, it does not feel like a tutorial level. This is great to hear. I'll report back once I've advanced further.

Anyone else's Switch get really hot in portable mode when in the Zora domain? My fan kicked on high when I was there in the rain at night...

Cooled down after a minute but I heard it audibly whirring.

Anyone else?

Man, I remember looking back to the time I left the plateau for the first time and immediately bumping into a
band of moblins, then being ambushed by stalfos, and finally being attacked by a swarm of keese as I was trying to escape.

Scawy.

Someone earlier mentioned the fans working more when loading into the Zora domain so I guess that is related. Personally on Wii U I don't seem to have too much issue so maybe this is just for Switch

I don't have the master sword yet, but if you press the A button to parry with any regular shield the moment
the blue halo emits
, it just works and they're down in two or three laser blasts.

Will have to try with this timing. I did it once yesterday and then my shield was broken on the second shot so I clearly need to work on the parrying timing.

Well, that's odd: just had a Blood Moon trigger at 3:50pm, just after it had triggered a night or two before. Must have been an anomaly.

I've heard a lot of accounts of people getting tons of blood moons at weird times of the day, or multiple ones in a row. Has to be a glitch I figure.

Meanwhile I can't get a blood moon to trigger to save my life.

Heh Nintendo did an accolades trailer for BoTW and its really hilarious watching a panoramic shot of Link looking at 10/10s and 5/5s.

Had my first Blood Moon glitch in the Hebra mountains. Happened around 3am and then again at 7am. Weird.

Yes, I got a second one in quick succession right after I made my post. It might have something to do with zoning in or out of a specific area. The only other thing I can think of is that in an earlier session, I snuck around Hyrule Castle for a while over a Blood Moon night and saw the effects in the world but not the cutscene, which doesn't appear to trigger when you are in the castle grounds. From a programming perspective I could see that potentially tripping something up.

I had some similar issues for the first time when doing the Akkala citadel. I think it was three or four consecutive moons in the space of a couple of in-game hours? The console was overheating at that point as well, I wonder if it was related at all.

I don't think so... Have you tried blowing out fans with an air duster?

There is nothing cooler than running up to a guardian when it is targeting you with your master sword drawn. Watching the blade activate and start glowing when you get close enough is nothing but hype inducing
.

That is my experience too, just a bit odd, fires up when loading into that save, no where else in the first 15 hours, just there...

Odd but like I said it runs great otherwise no slow down or anything like that.

Set it on fire.

fire

Actually, been wondering this myself. You try fire yet? I think someone said that worked, but might've been talking about something else.

The other day i tried fire arrows and I think it didn't do anything but I am not entirely sure. Sadly I don't have any of those right now. Goddamn haha.

Alright, I'm 50 hours in, done all the divine beasts, gotten the Master Sword and think I'm gonna go fight Ganon now.

While this has overall been an amazing game, I have some grievances;

- I wish there were more mini dungeons like the Yiga Clan hideout. The shrines are cool, but they're basically big puzzles, and the aesthetic gets repetitive.
- The Tests of Might suck. They rewally should've had other enemies and combat scenarios in them instead of fighting the same Guardian Scouts all the time.
- which brings me to my next point; the enemy variety sucks. Like straight up. Where's all the other cool Zelda enemies? The regions are so varied but you just fight recolours of the same enemies throughout.
- there should be a portable cooking pot. I haven't engaged in cooking or crafting for probably 10+ hours because it's tedious after a while and I can just tank hits until I get refreshed after beating a shrine, talking to a great fairy, or using Mipha's Grace.
-Wish there was some new, late game content. I'm doing the same stuff as I did in the beginning, which is still fun, but it means I feel like I've seen everything and am just repeating those same loops.

Anyways, like I said, I thinks BotW is an amazing game, and it might be a top 3 Zelda for me as is, but I feel like it could be even better.

For your last point, let's hope summer and winter DLC will somehow fix that.
I agree about other stuff.
