Colin Moriarty is leaving Kinda Funny Games.

This is a discussion forum, people are discussing the issue of Colin leaving KF. If that's "dog piling" to you then I don't know what to tell you.

And nobody "got him off the show". He left of his own free will, just like people criticized him of their own free will. He's a libertarian. He should appreciate that.

Last I checked we are in the gaming section and the things people are talking about has nothing to do width his views on games so frankly this thread IMO should have been moved long ago.

Sure he left the company he co-founded for no reason at all. If you believe that I don't know what to tell you.

But fuck it I will leave and let you keep "discussing" because if it is something the internet is good for it is political discussions on a anonymous forum with people behind avatars in the gaming section.

I don't agree with Colin on much but reading this thread one thing he is right on is how awful people can be on both sides.

Isn't this the guy who essentially desliked any and all Nintendo games ?
No. However, he is quite dogmatic about modern Nintendo and writing them off. A source of "lapsed Nintendo fan who just can't get why others can still put up with them/are refusing to see the internal light, which they must have, which would tell them to move on" and "ignore the Wii, ignore the DS, Nintendo is marching into the grave" talking points.

1). Nobody cares what you think about where a thread should or shouldn't belong

2). I never said it was for no reason. Reading comprehension is not that hard. I said he made the choice himself. He wasn't fired. He wasn't asked to resign. Colin himself, in the statement he released, said as much.

3) and if it's something the "both sides" brigade is good for, it's running away from a discussion when it becomes clear they are arguing from a position of intellectual bankruptcy and have no way to defend their thoughts or views.

This is all part of a larger discussion of the climate around the industry. His comments come from someone in gaming, have been discussed in the industry, and are an example of forces that inhibit more diversity in the industry. All of that is related to games.

I think the most mind blowing thing about all of this is that there are people out there who think he's clever and knowledgeable. Jesus.

The current President of the US has shown that you don't need to be either.

Just be willing to say shit and never apologize for it..the audience will come to you.

Wait... so he started Kinda Funny and worked there but didn't enjoy it at all? He said he left because he didn't want to "just be doing it for the money" anymore.

I gotta be misunderstanding this...

That seems to be his current plan. I'm sure there are people that think Trump is clever and knowledgeable too.

You are, he said because its now going in a different place to when they sat down and started it. Nothing controversial, just change.

There is being balanced. There is being cognizant that your own shit does, on occasion at least, stink, and that that may be part of what the other side is latching on to.

I think people do tend to avoid this. Doing so isn't helpful and is intellectual cowardice, but doing so does play into your opponent's hand if they are unwilling to be intellectually honest themselves. Being nuanced is, in the real world, not often rewarded in argument. I still think it is best to open yourself up and take what is coming, but I'm a bit high on the whole introspection thing, rightly or wrongly.

Relating this back to Colin: But then there is taking advantage of this in the other side and a) pushing it past its relevancy and scope, b) pretending it levels everything completely, and c) using it to mask the stench of your shit in a smokescreen.

I think this describes him. He cannot handle debate. He shuts it down and refuses to engage all the while whining about how people won't even listen or talk to him because of his worst interactions online. Well, maybe if he'd actually engage with the better instances and not just run as soon as they appear....

The arguments defending him in here are fucking embarrassing. Little to no substance and when challenged just backing out. But boy are liberal neogaf users mean for defending women and equality and "getting" him kicked off of his show, they should really think about their actions of speaking out against misogyny.

This song and dance is getting old.

if you're really that concerned why not PM a mod and get them to move this out of the gaming section?

Really glad Colin left. Was watching Greg since IGN, and ever since, when Colin would bring up politics in his video game shows, I would roll my eyes. Seemed so out of place and awkward. You can tell Greg felt uncomfortable and would ignore it.

It's a video game show! Meet your demographic. People listening have the intention of listening to video game content, not politics!

I think the most mind blowing thing about all of this is that there are people out there who think he's clever and knowledgeable. Jesus.

Basically. He's astoundingly unremarkable and should lean into this as hard as possible. He's never going to have a more receptive market. As long as he kicks and screams as hard as he can about liberal oppression, outrage culture, and safe spaces, he'll have a rapt audience and more upward career mobility than he did previously.

This, especially.

The problem with poorly-thought out statements like "both sides are wrong/did bad things" is that it attempts to institute a sense of equivalence. Black and white doesn't exist in the real world, but the wrongs of one side can be far, far shittier than the wrongs of the other.

I think this describes him. He cannot handle debate. He seems like the kind of person who makes inflammatory FB posts and then gets pissed off whenever someone challenges/critiques him. "Excuse me, this is MY wall, I can post whatever I want, I don't have to put up with this" BS.

You are, he said because its now going in a different place to when they sat down and started it. Nothing controversial, just change.

Is it really going in a different place? I'd love for someone to explain what that is. Greg has been saying Kinda Funny's "always been about X and Y" this whole week...

Proving most everyone in here right about who he is along the way.

Funny part is, if he'd just keep his fuckawful politics to himself and stuck to video games, he would still have a show and people wouldn't be criticising him

Just watched the Rubin report.

Excellent stuff Colin, very well said.

This guy is going places.

He spent the entire interview playing the victim card and calling people who criticize him part of a mob while laying down a "im smart because im not on either side" defense.

Going places.

It certainly isn't. It also isn't always the second someone does something wrong they're out the door, friendship over and fuck them. Unless it's incredibly serious, possibly direct harm or something so unforgivable.

Have you ever causally read an advice thread on GAF about family/friends or work colleagues that might have made a mistake or possibly have an iffy political or social stance? Nuance is lost on some people. It's straight to dial nuclear the second someone has a bit of a social disagreement.

I honestly don't know how anyone could be friends with some posters on here. You'd literally need to be a clone. 100% the same. Life is full of social landmines and friends and family erupting in disagreements. You tend to take the overall package of a person into consideration before catapulting them into the sun never to speak to them again and hold a hater boner till the day you're dead.

Greg called Colin out, Colin might disagree, but that doesn't mean Greg hates Colin now, Colin hates Greg and everyone hates everyone. Greg's lived with Colin, he'll know what he's like. It was most likely a combo of yes, calling him out, but also trying to calm down some of the flames of the internet losing its collective mind. As I framed it earlier this has erupted/spilled over into the internet culture war more than anything. Projection galore, people hating other people and taking opportunities to air their own personal grievances off the back of Colin and take pot shots at others who don't agree with them. I seriously doubt anyone really gives a shit this much about Colin. Half the people involved probably don't watch KF or even care about it.

This is a great post. Thank you for articulating something I didn't have the time to do myself.

I'm not on either side - Colin 'Jeff sessions is alright' Moriarty

Never back down and refuse to intellectually engage criticisms and maybe, just maybe...

I take issue with this because Im sure from my post history you would think Im defending him. But I couldnt give a shit about Colin Moriarty, I enjoyed his shows and more often that not MASSIVELY disagreed with what he was saying. But there is a lot of malice and vitriol in here that has nothing to do with what he said. He has said some stupid shit and if you want to express that go ahead. I just want to people to be better about this.

Its just there is no end goal here. Colin isnt some threat to us we need to take down. People posted a lot 'but we are just discussing', a lot of what is going on is no where near discussion.

No he was mostly talking about character assassination and the willingness for people to destroy people's lives for no reason. He is also saying that most people haven't a clue about why they are even defending an idea.
Like people calling him a racist for a sexist tweet.

He backed it up convincingly and i was very impressed by the interview.

Weather you like it or not, Colin Moriarty is going to be extremely successful and you will be seeing him talking to Joe Rogan pretty soon also.

I for one can't wait to see this guy go places.

Funny part is, if he'd just keep his fuckawful politics to himself and stuck to video games, he would still have a show and people wouldn't be criticising him

My understanding is that he doesn't want that because he was never THAT into video games, and it was becoming dishonest to himself to be in games media when his true calling is politics.

It's been quite clear for sometime games don't really interest him as much anymore and he now cares about politics more than anything.

And with how divisive politics are now just doesn't work with Kinda Funny.

I guess showing that he publically supports outright racists is character assassination? Or did he actually back up supporting people like Jeff Sessions while claiming to be against people like Trump?

Colin is a smart guy. He has been planning his Kinda Funny exit for a some time now. If you think his tweet and resign move this past week wasn't planned they you're a fool. Dude has been on Glen Beck, Rubin, and has upcoming spot on Rogan. Jesus, Neogaf hasn't shut up about him for a week. Like him or not, he knows what he's doing.

I know it may be obvious that Colin is going in a more political direction, but I wonder if it will still retain a gaming spin? The "Colin Was Right" stuff that sort of weaved both together was fantastic, probably some of KF's best content to date.

I hope he still maintains that side of things.

He's gained over 7k followers in just the past few days. That number is very likely to have a significant jump after Rogan as well.

Character assassination is the malicious and unjustified harming of one's reputation, sometimes even involving false accusations against said person. He says stupid things and gets called out.

There is legitimate criticism aimed at him and in no way character assassination.

I think that when you're sinking deeper and deeper into depression and misanthropy and loneliness it's hard to care about video games but very very easy to care about alt-right bitterness.

Shame it ended the way it did, but it seemed like he was getting less interested as time went on, so maybe it was inevitable anyway.

Still, I'll carry on watching Kinda Funny's stuff and am looking forward to seeing what Colin's planning, as he's one of the few people I enjoy watching/listening to when it comes to history and politics.

He said earlier on Rubin's show that if there's gaming related things to talk about that, like politics in games, then he'll still talk about them, but wont be doing dedicated gaming stuff like reviews etc.

Exactly he knows how to play the game.

He is also loving the free publicity GAF is giving him in this thread alone.

For people that hate him, they sure love talking about him.

Well played Colin

Let's see how far he goes the more he distances himself from his captive video gamer audience where the bar for political/social discourse is incredibly low and starts to take his flimsy positions elsewhere where they can be more easily picked apart and exposed for the shallow nonsense that they are. My guess is that this will cause him to retreat further and further into an (wait for it) echo chamber where he can shield himself from criticism, while also sinking further and further out of relevance. To a lot of that audience he'll just be a "video game guy".

He got called a racist for a sexist tweet.

Now forever he will be on the internet known as a racist.

That is character assassination for no other reason than a dying website to get hits

If he really wants to be famous by saying troll statements and gaining the attention of alt-right followers, well I guess more power to him then if he can still sleep at night.

He was called a racist for previous statements and supporting a bigot like Jeff Sessions. Someone actually too racist in 1980s to be a judge, by his own party.

I'd like to see these posts.

And no end goal? Youre missing the point if you think there isn't a goal in attacking his positions; and yes I said positions plural because of the history we have to fall back on with comments such as this.

Ah right on. That's good to hear. I'm sure he'll still tweet thoughts on stuff too.

Unless he's sort of giving up gaming as a hobby too, but I doubt that.

He was called a racist for previous statements and supporting a bigot like Jeff Sessions.

Just because he supports Jeff sessions doesn't make him a racist.

Literally 0 evidence of this yet they have branded him as one just to get their shit website hits. Even though he did previous work on black oppression in America
