Mass Effect: Andromeda - EA/Origin Access trial coming March 16th - 10 hour trial

Typical EA damage control... Probably gonna change it to release date.

Unfortunately, yes. Played 5 games today, 4 of them were laggy as hell.

The game is even lagging for the actual host, which indicates that something is very wrong with the server side of the MP. The host usually doesn't have lag 99% of the time in P2P MP games.

The embargo for streamers, Youtubers etc is being relaxed to let them show more/later parts of the game. Review embargo is still Monday to my knowledge.

Using that last hour of the trail to buff my strike teams and get boxes for singleplayer boosting, already got a canifex out of one and it one shots kett grunts.

The sooner the reviews are up the better..it might die down the wildfires of negativity a bit...though saying that yes there are no excuses for the short-comings having been in development for so long...

Some are already making it to be dead on arrival....will be interesting to see what the likes of GamesRadar, IGN, Edge magazine views are..

It will be quite unfortunate if the game turns out to be rather good, but is let down by poor character design, animations and a boring start.

But honestly this shit is beyond obvious that it's quite amazing things even got to this point and they're only now realizing that they fucked up big time.

IIRC it was release date, Monday midnight EST?

I just pre-loaded Mass Effect: Andromeda and tried launching the trial and it won't even open.

I checked Task Manager and the program shows as running in the background but nothing happens and I needed to close the program through Task Manager.

Do you have Corsair products? Corsair Utility Engine causes that black screen.

Streamers etc. are allowed to do 100% playthroughts starting today / now.

Originally they were allowed to start them on 19th.

Definitely a "i've seen here somewhere before face"

My advice to new players is to make a customized character. Forget about the default appearance of the ryder family, you can make something much better. I did a beautiful asian girl and the facial animations do seem to fit it a lot better!

If it's P2P... then the lack of people playing it, is going to affect your connection.

More people means people closer to your connection.

Don't think so, I'm reading the actual email that was sent out. Full play through still shows as game release timing and a number of spoiler areas are off limits. Unless it's different for some folks, not sure.

I played for 1hour and 45 minutes of the trial and had not one latency or connectivity issue. I do have the highest tier of internet and am in downtown LA close to my data center but ... no issues in MP at all. Really fun and better than ME3

Just tried some more MP, first game changes host whilst I'm loading in, second game changes host 2 times after I join. It's really annoying, I haven't even played a full game yet!

I'm getting annoying rubber banding in the multiplayer.
Which is par for the course with EA games and me these days.
It's not as bad as Battlefront or PvZ GW2, but it's still not much fun.

So they maintained some parts as off limits? That is good. Still super early to allow streamers and Lets Players go ham and just show almost everything game has to offer from story to exploration.

Not really clear. Streamers got expanded permissions in the embargo, but afaik no other changes.

Hmmm that sucks. Was looking forward to them. I really really want this game to be good cause when I now look back on it, i actually enjoyed most of the trial. But not the one thing that truly matters a lot.

I don't get a black screen, the game does not start at all, it just sits in the background until I right-click and hit End Task.
Are you launching from origin or a shortcut. First time I launched the game from a shortcut and nothing happened, flipped back to origin and there was a prompt asking me to confirm that I wanted to start my trial. Game started after I hit yes.

Friend and me used up 6 hours of our trial in MP. The lag was pretty unreal in some matches. We ended up both hosting, because of several disconnects and experienced the same lag. Apart from that, this thread (or an other one I honestly lost track) had various people saying the same thing. I also watched a couple MP streams on YouTube and Twitch and people dealt with the exact same issues. The lag and the crazy broken audio in MP is exactly the reason why they should have had that Technical Test, instead of relying on that it will work in their test environment (and at PAX) flawlessly and just cancelling it.

But I totally agree on the last part of your post. The MP gameplay is absolutely fun when it works.

So for those who put In 10 hours, despite some weird animations is there a solid game to look forward to here?

I'm not 10 hours in, but my thoughts is that honestly if you were looking forward to the game and generally like Bioware games enough to play it, you'll be fine.

I've played every single modern bioware rpg, and I've enjoyed all of them enough to play them and even if not particularly impressed I don't regret my time with it. This game shouldn't be different. If you're one who jumps here and there on their games and can hate some games though, wait for reviews.

A reasonable amount of people like the game, for its pacing and gameplay.

The story is serviceable, it's decent but punctuated with horrendous presentation that makes it hard to take seriously. It also has terrible writing once in a while.

If I'm honest, from all I've seen and read, it's probably best to wait for a discount. But it doesn't seem thaaaat bad.

I'm enjoying my time with it (About six or so hours in). I think the story is interesting enough so far, and the combat is a lot of fun. The animations are obviously not the best, but they really aren't jumping out at me enough to hurt my experience.

Yeah people's connection and performance results in MP is crazy inconsistent. I totally believe some people are having some issues but I've been watching a few twitch MP streamers all day and saw one freeze and one dropped connection. Origin PC is an odd beast. Battlefield 1 had that issue on PCs too

EDIT: Should note I only watch PC streamers and PC videos so I don't know what is doing beyond my brother telling me his XBOX trial MP is running smoothly too.

In terms of gameplay, yeah, definitely. Combat and exploration are fun, the environments are really pretty to look at, side quests seem to have more of a story to them (at least from the ones I played), etc. In terms of the main story it's hard to tell considering this is just a tiny part of it. What's there seems intriguing but depending on what happens throughout the story it could go either way. If I had to guess, I'd say that the plot will probably be pretty good but many of the characters will end up being somewhat boring. Could be totally wrong about that, though. Some people will try to tell you that the writing is terrible but I don't think that that's true at all. From time to time, you'll stumble across a badly-written line but overall, the writing is perfectly fine IMO. The only other thing that I truly disliked (apart from the facial animations and some of the human faces in general looking a bit off) would be that the character creator is quite limiting (which they'll fix via patch, supposedly, but we don't know when that patch will be ready).

I feel it is. Once I got past the shoddy animations and rough sections I found a really enjoyable sci-fi RPG. The combat feels tight, there's plenty of items to collect/craft and I enjoyed being able to play with builds a lot more than previous ME games. I doubt the story will win any awards, but it was interesting enough to me that I felt a desire to explore and keep going.

good god the mattock is so punchy and satisfying

I'm fucking stupid and preordered the Super Duper edition.

I got an alien pistol that shoots like the Collector SMG from ME3. I put it on the Turian Soldier. It melts with him.

I was honestly expecting a complete trainwreck after browsing gaf for a while. However, after starting up the trial I´m not worried anymore. Yes the characters are animated weirdly and some of the npcs look pretty bad, there is no denying that. The rest of the game however is very, very solid imho. I´m not even bothered by the planet scanning, even though I wonder if we´ll be able to scan for anomalies with actual content other than resources later in the game.
I played pretty much all the recent bioware games extensively and this game left a way better first impression than ME 2 or DA 2 with me. It lacks the polish of a game like ME 2 but the setting, plot and game systems are satisfying to me in a way some other Bioware games in the past weren´t.
