Also, taking all your hearts means you have an armor set that isn't strong defensively. Try the Soldier's set and upgrade that to the 4th level. That makes you almost invincible. A standard Lynel swipe will take anywhere from a quarter of a heart to 2 or 3 at once.

Fully upgraded is 84 defense

I don't have a 4th level yet. But the highest I can use right now, on level 3, is 36 total. Also this is in the snow so I need the snowquill set.

Expertise in DS won't always translate to success in BotW. Doesn't have to do with how well combat is implemented. You're playing a different game. You have to adjust.

I realize it's a different game, but the swings and hits are not telegraphed well enough for my liking.

They are more obvious than you may realize at first. Lynels only have one quick dash attack that gives little warning. The rest follow patterns that with practice quickly become easier to counter.

ooh just got
climbing
boots from a secret shrine, so I guess theres a helm also for a full set?

i have been an off and on gamer for the past 10 years, and i have never been this obsessed with a game before.

it's like nintendo aped the best open world aspects of modern games and suited them to their own interests.

breath of the wild is hands down, the best game i have ever played. never have i experienced a game that amalgamated the best of music, gameplay and atmosphere is a game before.

Have you played witcher 3? That game is my favourite game of all time

Same here. It's crazy to, If you don't use any guides and try to complete most of the stuff, this thing can keep a person busy for a HUGE amount of time. What surprises me most is I get enjoyment just being in the world it self. Reminds of being in a mmo were everything feels massive and like living world. Cool stuff indeed.

how the fuck are you supposed to get to the finish line in time for the korok seed in
mount lanaryu (the one where its down a hill)
, seems impossible even with speed boost food (yes I know its not impossible), gliding is too slow, u cant run down the hill fast enough, what am I missing?

Is this the Lynel on top of the Gerudo highlands? I have not fought that one and don't recognize that attack. I imagine there must be a way to counter it though. Someone else might be able to help.

I've been playing for 32 hours and have six hearts, two full stamina rings, 34 shrines completed.

Am I going incredibly slowly? It feels like I should be further along by now. I'm enjoying it immensely but it is in danger of dragging.

You're supposed to snowboard on your shield.

I'm at 40 hours and am at 21 completed shrines, 3 hearts, two stamina rings, and 72 koroks. I haven't been to any towns or divine beasts. If you're dragging, I don't know what to call what I've been doing.

Ha - okay. I only have like 14 Koroks, so you've got me there. Just wanted to check... incredible game.

I actually think your moving faster than most though it also depends on what other stuff youve done.

Is that the one where there's a guy standing teaching you about shield surfing? Somehow I totally forgot about shield surfing, until I talked with that guy, 50+ hours in.....

Beat the game last week. Spent an hour or so yesterday wandering around and sliding down mountains on my shield. Any other fun things to do?

just realised I got completely sidetracked from the Zora quest by doing random seeds and shrines miles away ;_;

I have 9 hearts now from shrines, good time to start getting stamina?

Totally fell off this game.

I got
all 4 Beasts and Master Sword and now just grinding mats to get ancient shields so I can kill guardians so I can get more mats to get ancient cores to get the armor set... Not to mention the Shrine/Cooking grind. Shieka Slate is literally just looking for hearty things at this point.

Might come back to this eventually.

O, also, I wanted to upgrade the
Barbarian Set. That needs Lynel stuff... Cycle continues, burn through food/weapons each fight, grind for more.

this is parryable. the charge with the weapon out for a swing can be backflipped into a flurry rush with correct timing. the charge where runs at you with his bare hands MUST be sidestepped.

I'm in the same boat, I started the Zora quest to go up the mountain.... 5 hours later, I'm clear across the other side of the map. It's too easy to get side tracked with new views on the horizon. Time to buckle down and tackle my first
Divine Beast
.

Woah. You must not be planning to buy any other game for a while haha. I'm 60 hours in and almost done with the game - just need to complete the last ~20 shrines, last memory, last Beast and a handful of sidequests. Might end up upgrading some armor to see all of the upgrade animations but I'm not feeling like material-farming for long to upgrade a whole armor set or anything like that.

Speaking of which, I wish the game did a better job of managing my sidequests. I'd like it if it kept track of a number like it does with Korok Seeds/Shrines, or if it was possible to sort them by region. They have a region subtitle underneath, but the way they're ordered on the list seems super arbitrary.

Also, can't believe how overpowered I am. The beasts' rewards are ridiculously OP, and the armor/weapons you can get turn you into a beast. Guardians and Lynels pretty much have no chance against me. I hope the DLC is super hard.

Maybe they are part of a quest line? I ran into the senior talus but figured it was some new variation and didn't think much about it.

There are just different types. There is also other types of Stone Talus. The Forest dweller mini boss also has different types. So do the Lynels.

These aren't logged in the compendium though, like the other enemy types. They just appear as regular Stone Talus or Stone Talus (Rare) on the camera. There's no quest for them. It's kind of weird.

Actually completed the Weapon Connoisseur side quest. I mean, I get that the kid really wanted to see all of those weapons, but I still feel bad for taking something like two thousand rupees from him and not actually making his life tangibly better in any real way.

Now I've only got two more side quests in my list and another 16 that I haven't discovered at all. Jeeze.

Why are you bothering with ancient shields? Why not just use the materials ONLY on the armour? I've only got one piece of it and it still reduces guardian damage substantially.

How do you take out guardian drones (besides using an ancient arrow?)

Use bomb arrows to take out their propellors and knock them out of the sky.

I don't plan on playing anything else for a while. I'm taking my time exploring the world and marking points of interest, enjoying combat and experimentation.

I agree with you about side quest management. The inventory system in general is a pain. Small QoL improvements would go a long way toward a more fluid experience.

Well just don't do that stuff and finish the game lol

man you really should be able to
swim indefinately
with the
Zora
armor. Youre telling me that shit makes you
fly up waterfalls using no stamina, but u cant cross a tiny lake
? >_>

This was the only game I played for 3 weeks. Not a huge amount of time for a game this big, but ive never exclusively played any game longer than 1 week! After about 70 hours the game started becoming a drag, but I do plan on putting a few hours a week into it for material grinding.

Funny thing is I bought RMX and Shovel Knight after a week thinking id want some variety between zelda sessions but I guess not. Now that I finally beat it I can get on with shovel knight!

125+ hours.

18 hearts, two stamina rings, 3 Divine Beasts down. I am totally slacking but I am having too much fun exploring and stuff.

I just ordered the Switch Family Bundle With BoTW, 1-2 Switch, and some other crap game.

It ships April 5th and I am beyond excited. Hopefully, also, my partner I (who doesn't play many video games) will enjoy some of the casual games the Switch offers; and maybe 1-2 Switch will tide us over in that regard until Mariokart is released.

Just started and I have never been so confused about what to do in a game in my life. Might be because I played 3 open world games back to back.

Trying to clean up the rest of the shrines.

Right now I'm standing naked on a pedestal waiting for a blood moon which apparently will never come...

Why not just fast travel nearby when you notice a blood moon appear? I don't understand why so many people are trying to wait this one out.

There's a shrine close to that pedestal that will allow you to warp there and fly over to the pedestal if you notice a blood moon incoming.

I would try to find this shrine and go about your business without having to worry and just warp in and fly over if you happen to notice a blood moon rising.

When I started that quest I just went and cleared a handful of enemy camps, then I got a blood moon within a day or two. YMMV, though.
