Hot take time

- Leaks were real

- Leaks killed the excitement

- Infinity display looks cool

- wish they'd talked more about out the actual image quality of the screen

- camera being the same sucks

- image processing should be better though so will wait to see

- they did jack shit to sell me on that wack ass aspect ratio

- they also spent like 0 time talking about improved performance

- they also spent 0 time talking about the OS so I assume it'll literally be the current Nougat with Bixby slapped on top

- first dude talking about accessories was a boner killer

- the girl that came out was waaaayyy better

- a lot of the accessories seemed cool but I'm not gonna pay for them

- would be more interested in dex laptop vs desktop

- you can tell the way they glossed over the fingerprint scanner that they wanted that shit baked in but couldn't get it done

- phone seems nice but the presentation didn't wow

- should have taken more time on the display vs that shitty sizzle reel and told me how much better in actual use it is

- didn't spend any time talking about improved data or wifi either

- should have spent more time on a phone deep dive and less time on the accessories

- I got more hot takes to post in a bit

Looks like a super neat phone. I'm kinda curious about why other manufacturer's still haven't introduced a fully pressure sensitive screen yet.

Not ever gonna be in the market for a Samsung phone, really, but it's nice if they push the industry ahead. That screen looks dope as hell and i'm a big fan of the system wide 'invisible' virtual hard-press home button.

Impressive device. I'm most curious about iris/face unlock. Going to read now about how it actually works in practice.

*edit* also, had a small chuckle how samsung can't have one phone unveiled without borrowing something from apple's branding playbook (this time the phone names)

Theyre not just farthest away, theyre not really on the playing field at all and nothing about their core philosophy will allow them to join.

So, will they change and be left behind or stick to their guns and be the only ones not doing it and people won't care?

Apple was the pioneer in mobile OSs but if this new trend catches on they will be really outdated.

It'll be interesting to see if Microsoft's and Google's long game pays off vs Apple.

If only it had stock android...
It didn't look horrific like past Samsung skins.

Does the general consumer care about these stuff enough for them to actually waste time on it? Although you could make the point that those who watched the conference aren't average.

So this was the first Samsung press event I've ever watched. I've watching like every Apple conference, so that's my baseline for comparison.

Do these typically come off as...cheesy? Not to say that Apple's aren't at times, but the transition music was cringy and weird. Plus the whole Bixby demo seemed unappreciated by most. I also didn't hear too many loud crowd reactions to most of the reveals.

That being said, I am intrigued by this phone and may attempt a midnight preorder tonight. We'll see how this thread shapes up and how news media reacts, though.

If you are in the US I'm seeing 100 off for BestBuy if you do installment plans. Additionally with the free gear vr.

S8+ for $750 is good.

IDK how much the average consumer cares about all their accessories either if they aren't packed or buy/preorders freebies.

Also I think they care to a degree. I mean Apple spends some time at their show on these features. Google did too last year.

Presentation today sorta made me retroactively appreciate Google's Pixel presentation more.

I think the note is supposed to have a 6.4" screen and 16:9 ratio, plus thenote usually gets a small bump in specs for battery and ram.

It didn't with the 7 though minus the battery. I think they stopped that with the 5 or 6 which was one of the initial complaints.

If I preorder will I get VR for free?
I see it mentioned on some sites but when I look at the places to preorder in Sweden, not a word of VR included with preorder.
Is this limited to certain countries?

Faceless be my homie. Be real with me. We

Is the aspect ratio weird as fuck?

I'm not Faceless but the aspect ratio is so you don't waste the regular screen area on software buttons. It especially makes sense on AMOLED because the button area is going to have horrendous burn in and you don't want to ever share the button area with constantly usable screen.

verge is claiming in their video review that this thing comes with an oculus headset? Did they mean the gear VR or does it really come with an oculus headset for free now?
