Honestly, what does Microsoft need to do with Scorpio to solidify your purchase?

If Scorpio has a Zen CPU, is well over 6TF (7+?), has a few heavy hitter launch titles AND is $399 that's a home run.

They would need exclusive games that have to convince me that i should consider scorpio over PC. Meaning also that the exclusives should not be on windows 10.
Games, Games and more games. Especially those outside of their usual portofolio.
I hate Halo and I'm tired of Gears, was never the biggest racing fan and stuff like the Rare title or Crackdown aren't really that interesting. A decent price point is another thing, if they muppet around with hardware specs over and over again, I wont give a damn. Surely the usual marketing stuff is gonna happen and the presentation will ooze with buzzwords, but once thats out of the gate they need to keep it at an endurable level.
I dont see it happening honestly. BC could have been an argument in a world without remasters, but that's not the case.

I own everything eventually. "Eventually" is substantially sped up by having games that I can't get elsewhere.
Sorry man, something about a Snake avatar and some of these points gave me a massive deja vu, but now I'm thinking I'm probably imaging stuff.

Basically, it would need to be a true Xbox One successor, not just a fancier-graphics half-step, it would need to have several launch games that are none of the known Xbox games on the horizon (such as something like Horizon or Persona 5), and they would need to be unavailable on PC.
So basically there's no way I'm going to be a day-one purchaser.

First post pretty much nails it. Though I would like to see some type of "performance mode" to see how many games could actually run 1080p at 60FPS.
I'm actually going to be looking for a new console come summer, been on Xbox most of my life but been thinking really hard of switching over (can really only afford one console at a time since school and stuff) so if Scorpio can knock my socks off I'd like to stick around but we'll see.

From reading this thread it kinda dawned on me how tough of a situation they are in. Obviously GAF doesn't equal the mass market but with Scorpio likely targeted as a premium product it's the enthusiast crowd they are hoping are early adopters and it seems they have their work cut out for them with that crowd.

I got no choice, need to play RDR2 at launch and it looks like they are screwing PC again. But I need a console too to play a few multiplayer multiplats cos I dont play keyboard anymore. Anything else is gravy.

All about the games. They're really going to have to bring it though after this pathetic drought they've had going on.
I'm super excited for Crackdown but unless it's some revolutionary thing I'll just buy it for Xbox One.
With that said if it's a substantial and noticeable power jump over the PS4 Pro, I'll probably end up jumping on it anyway just because I'm a sucker for shiny (please be matte) new consoles.

Last summer I thought about getting a XB1S, but I held out.
But now there is so much to play on Ps4 that I don't think I need an Xbox anymore.
In fact, a Switch is higher on my buy list because even though it offers very little, it offers games that deliver something I really can't get anywhere else.(Mainly very good splitscreen multiplayer games like Mario Kart)
The only thing that would make me want an XB now would be a few very good and unique exclusives. Something like a Zelda, or a Horizon.

Supporting older titles like Halo 5 and MCC would be nice. At the very least Halo 5, would be nice to have 4K 60 FPS. Everything going forward will be on PC, so that's why I'd like to see older titles that won't be on PC get higher fidelity.

MS can't do anything, for me at least. The System will be barely faster than my almost three years old PC and most of it's exclusives are playable on PC too...
If I were them I'd delay the system another year, make it even a bit more powerful and launch it as a whole new Xbox Generation, there's no way MS can compete with the PS4 at this point, so they need to "leap ahead" ^^

It's a very good thing you're not them.
That's basically the worst thing they could do, launching this fall they can still be the most powerful platform for at least 2 years maybe 3. Delay it a year and the PS5 starts looming which would undoubtedly crush Scorpio power wise and then MS is playing even worse catch up than they already are.
meh, I buy at least one of all new hardware. If it's powerful (at least as good as my current PC optimized), has a few good exclusives and supported by third parties appropriately, I'm in for at least one. XB1 I have, but I had 3 XB360s back in the day in my house. XB1 was underpowered and not the place to be overall as far as third parties are concerned. MS cheaped out on the GPU and it hurt them. It's got to enable experiences a step beyond the PS4/PS4 Pro (I have one Pro in the house right now).

They have nothing that could convince me. I already have an Xbone so I wouldn't get access to any more games with one. Even now, it's only used for collecting a backlog from games with gold, playing BC games, and the rare exclusive worst playing. Also, all my friends are on PS4, I own a Pro, and I prefer the library, OS, and controller there.
I'm genuinely confused as to how the Scorpio is going to make an impact at all when it's just a more expensive version of console that's being outsold considerably. Why would a dev spend any effort on a Scorpio-optimized version of their game at all?

I literally don't understand why someone buys an Xbox one. It doesn't offer anything unique software wise and it's 4k player isn't that good. Swear, scorpio better be mind blowingly better than the PS4 pro. Really like the pro. Wonder if they'll deliver on 4k/60

They need some fresh exclusive games. If the specs circulating are to believed it will be nowhere near powerful enough to wow me with the visuals beyond what my PC can do. So I really hope they have a couple innovative titles up their sleeve for the reveal. A slightly better looking Forza (as great as the series is) is not gonna make me drop cash.
Or maybe a killer peripheral... I could see me going for something that moves the 'console' paradigm in a new direction.

I don't plan on purchasing one personally, and I doubt that I will. The exclusive lineup does nothing for me and I would rather play multiplats on PC or on Sony's ecosystem.
The way I see it though, strictly speaking in terms of hardware capabilities, MS would need to outdo Sony in the areas the Pro is weak. 4k Blu-ray playback is a must. Modes/settings on an OS level that allow you to enhance games in whatever way you find preferable (a choice between higher framerate vs. high resolution/visual fidelity). And there needs to be more clear messaging about what the Scorpio will do to enhance each game. With Sony it's a crapshoot - boost mode helps some games and hurts others. Some games work in 2160p but others don't. Some games function well on higher resolutions and others run worse (framerate wise).
I realize as consoles become more and more like PCs, this may be tough to do... But if Microsoft can build a level of consistency into the Scorpio that Sony's Pro is clearly lacking, I think that would be victory enough for them.

Dunno really. I'd like to see them with a wider variety of quality first party titles. Support for SteamVR would be nice. Support for Dolby Vision would be nice. Eliminating bottlenecks around storage would be great.

I don't see what they could do for me honestly. I'm more than happy with my PS4 and Switch.
Mainly the games aren't there on Microsoft's ecosystem, I've long lost interest in Halo, Gears is dead to me, Forza is fantastic but not every year.

More Japanese developed exclusive games.
It would have to be absurdly more powerful than any console on the market. It would also have to have a big name multi platform game that ran way better on Scorpio than the other consoles and also an exclusive that was on par with Horizon or BotW. The latter seems unlikely. Pretty high standards but I really don't want to own all 3 consoles.
TBH though, I'm still pretty bitter about the whole DRM/Cloud fiasco with the One. I hated the way Major Nelson and MS were trying to explain away the DRM by saying "the power of the cloud" over and over.
