Like a lot of Muslim-majority secular countries, the secular character was due to a 35-year pro-western military dictatorship from the 60s to the late 90s (although unlike Egypt or Algeria, the dictatorship was not anti-Jihad, but anti-Communist, though it was still pro-western).

Not to say this is the inevitable direction for Muslim-majority countries, but that the forces of secularism had ties to an old dictatorship, so the political opposition would rally around traditional Islam as a counterpoint to the establishment, so it ties into Islamism being an "antidote" for Cold War ideals.

I don't think that we should be attacking Marvel either but I do think they made a mistake (not a malicious one), and I would hope to see an apology. It wouldn't have taken much effort to Google the QS thing. That is part of the job, right?

If I'm noticing those things as a reader...surely editorial noticed? Why was no inquiry made into the QS thing? I would expect an editor to look into that rather than shrug it off as a reader would...especially in the age of the internet when anything like this is going to be spotted by somebody and news of the mistake widely disseminated before they can even react. They goofed, and now the entire X-line relaunch Marvel has been building for months has been tarnished right out of the gate.
