How much HotS will I have to play to get the Zarya skin?

The last one was like 15 matches for the first tier (which was the Overwatch skin and icon), 30 matches for all rewards (that gave an additional pack of heroes). It took me about an hour to get the 15 out of the way.

Hanzo and Zarya weren't part of Overwatch, so they wouldn't be likely to have skins.

Widowmaker was at least an active terrorist around then.

Or she still might've been pre-brainwashing at that time. We don't know exactly how her killing her husband falls into the timeline. All we know is that this event is a few years before Overwatch got properly shut down.

How does Zarya fit into the lore of the game? I know Hanzo/Genji's story, but don't know anything about Zarya or how she got involved with the group.

Not all characters are tied to Overwatch, or only indirectly. The current point of the game is like... 5 or so years after Overwatch was disbanded. Zarya was an Olympic weightlifter who joined the Russian military as there is a second Omnic crisis brewing in Russia, and she wants to fight to protect her people. As of Sombra's cinematic, she also is involved with Volskaya Industries (who likely also provided her graviton cannon, since it seems to be a smaller version of the ones the Volskaya mechs use).

Where the skins disappear after a while making it hard as hell to try and get one of the skins for free, impossible almost to get the skin you actually want for free either through random luck of the boxes or buying it with coins (since the good skins are always Legendary and cost 3000 instead of 1000 in holidays).

Thanks. I'm still pretty new and coin reserves are low, haven't purchased anything yet. I got lucky and got a D.Va skin I wanted out of a box and I'd next like a Mercy skin so I might be saving for a while.

edit: By permanent, I meant, I'll be able to get it after the event is over? Like, I can't get a Halloween skin now.

I was under the impression that it is impossible to ever get an event skin outside of the events thus far.

Zarya and Symmetra weren't active during the time this event occurs, nor tied to Overwatch, Blackwatch or Null Sector. They might've still been in their teens at that point. What would they have gotten? We already have skins that display either character's past (ArchiTech skin for Symmetra and weightlifter skins for Zarya), so...?

I'm not sure what the skin represents exactly, but Widowmaker was married to one of the most important Overwatch agents in the universe, and was brainwashed by Talon to murder him. This might be a skin referring to her time before Talon took her.

I genuinely don't feel bad about it either. I just crossed the 300 hr mark, and really enjoy the core gameplay of the game. I've spent more per hour on games I've enjoyed a lot less, that's for sure, even figuring in the $40 every time an event rolls around.

Possibly after. In one of the sprays posted in this thread she had black hair not blue. The blue skin was a side affect that came later with more experimentation.

It almost certainly is, as her skin isn't blue, but is her regular skin color.

Her skin became blue after she killed her husband after being brainwashed, not when she was first kidnapped. Blue hair was most likely the first side affect though.
