Wonder Woman now tracking to have opening on par with other DCEU movies

Black Widow tricking Loki is good writing. Black Widow outright telling everyone in the audience that it's stupid her and Hawkeye are in the film, but it's okay because they're acknowledging it...
Would have been nonsense for Black Widow to be all Gung-ho about fighting Aliens and God-like beings when she was just a highly trained human/spy. It makes sense based on her history and who she is. The movie played to what her strenghts were instead of just going for cheap 'strong woman' like Harley Quinn with her baseball bat.

I doubt you complained about Batman not running in to fight Doomsday. Because that would have just been dumb.

I really hope this is good, it's probably the last chance I'll give DC before going exclusively "Wait for it on BLuray/digital rental".

My girlfriend really wants to see it too so this will probably be the first DC movie I've seen in theaters since Man of Steel.

The thing is, WB is sitting on a gold mine with Wondy. This movie should be the DC equivalent of the MCU Iron Man/GotG/Capt America...but maybe even moreso.

There is a very large audience waiting for a female superhero to champion. All the young girls (my daughter included) who went batshit crazy over Rey from SW7? Yeah, they'd be all about jumping on the Wonder Woman train.

This movie should be a guaranteed blockbuster for WB.

Nothing is promised. I just feel like with an article like this it gets people to think that unless this movie does over 1 billion. It's a flop.

Not with this sort of OW and if the movie has good WOM this would be a pretty damn good outcome and would solidify a sequel.

Hell. SS made it's money off the back of Margot as Harley, and Will Smith as Deadshot.

And lets be real. More people were paying attention to Harley and clearly want to see more of Margot in that role.

Not surprising at all. Two terrible DCEU films prior, and Gal Godot doesn't have the star power to carry the film when audiences have only seen her flaunting a bikini in Fast & Furious.

Which is a shame, the film will probably end up being better than the Snyder shitfests.

And again. What's bad about an 83 million OW of what is essentially an origins story?

$83 million opening and $225 million domestic take would probably be a good result for WB.

not the same industry, but Square Enix brushing asid 3.4 million sell-through's of Tomb Raider says a lot about corporation expectations vs reality. they all sufffer from the 500 days of summer syndrome.

Like many said. Look at Logan. The best comic book movie I've seen in a long while and it is just under 600 million.

And WW's budget seems fine. So I don't think there's anything for WB to worry about on that front.

If they could stomach BvS failing to reach a billion I'm sure they can stomach WW making 500-600mill.

Aquaman is like:

HOLD MY BEER.

Man it's going to suck when they blame this on audiences not wanting to see female-led action movies.

But it is the reality. It doesn't help Wonder Woman isn't a great superhero movie, but when shit superhero movies with male characters perform better, then it is obvious. The audience for superhero movies just doesn't dig diversity as much as we all would want.

What exactly are you basing this on?

That would be a great result, all things considered.

I just want the movie to be successful. I mean, I want it to be good as well, but if I can't have that, the least I can hope for is financial success.

Why would you want a shitty movie to be successful? If this movie is shit, the best thing that can happen to this franchise is for the movie to flop.

Hell, if BvS and Suicide Squad actually flopped, the DCEU would probably be in a better position right now than WB trying to force feed us more Zach Snyder bullshit.

It's not confusing, but you have people in this thread legit acting like an 83 million OW is bad for this sort of movie when it's on par with other movies in the genre.

I read an article the other day saying it's a decent estimate, then come to Gaf and it's the end of the world

Good. After seeing Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad In theatres, I will no longer be contributing money to this terrible cinematic franchise. Glad to hear that others are thinking the same.

She's not going to resemble her comic book counterpart about as much as Starlord and Tony did theirs before GOTG and Iron Man came out.

They're going to turn that character into a hit.
Starlord and Tony totally resemble their counter parts

Looks bad from the trailers and other movies from the same universe have been bad, and what the fuck I just realized the first trailer was from over a year ago. Feb 2016. That's a long ass time ago and the hype definitely has deflated especially with other juggernauts coming out around the release of this movie that either A. has had amazing [and recent] marketing (Alien, Pirates, GoTG) and B. have actually had good movies within those series or universes or w/e you call them now. Also the fact that this is Wonder Woman aka not part of the elite superhero crowd that banks which is only like 3 heroes (the most popular characters in the world). Hello the only other 2 movies from this Universe that have come out have been Batman and Superman films.

$$$$ team
Bats, Supes, Spidey, recently Iron Man (this one is weird to me, though)[anomaly]

B team
WW, Cyborg, Ant Man, Thor, Black Panther, Dr Strange, Flash etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, (pretty much any other super hero here)

But honestly who gives a fuck about the money. Please just be good

Tony is a neurotic quip machine with all sorts of weird hangups and a jokester and Starlord is basically a big kid that never grew up and surrounds himself in a cloak of 80s pop culture familiarity.

I never really saw a lot in common between those versions and their comic book selves outside of familiar backstories and certain aspects of their character/costume designs.

It feels like the only MCU version that is straight out of the pages would be Captain America.
