Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

I think ND has a Jak 4 (it will be a reboot though) up their sleeves.

I like how quickly they announced and released Uncharted The Lost Legacy.

As I've said in the Uncharted: LL thread, that would be total insanity. I don't think there is any way in this reality that Naughty Dog, the premier Sony studio, gets relegated to dredging up some decrepit mascot-platformer IP. They've got the freedom to do whatever they want, and they're gonna take about a million steps back from where they are now? I just don't see it.

I feel like if they want to do something different, the team will dream up their own way to make that happen. Let some other studio handle Jak, if there's even any real demand for it out there.

If there's going to be a new Jak game (I don't think there will be) I hope they get Sanzaru on the case. They're a solid studio and deserve a shot at something else after Sly 4 was so good.

I hope they hold some stuff back for E3. The conference is always the most exciting when it's full of surprises.

I'm sure they will. But it makes sense to announce Uncharted now instead of E3 given that if they held that date back for E3 it'd mean they'd be announcing it two months before its release. And that's certainly not common for games as big as Uncharted. I'd expect marketing for it to start slowly ramping up now as it's clearly Sony's next big release.

Eh, I mean, they are big enough for it to be a side project of sorts. I don't necessarily think it is likely either but I wouldn't mind ND working on it.

Sanzaru needs to be doing Sly Cooper, dammit! ;_;

I would be down for a Sanzaru Jak though.

So that's Farpoint in May, Wipeout and Crash in June, Uncharted in August, maybe GT for September/October...? Feel like Sony are pretty well covered for the rest of the year.

Unfortunately I don't think Sanzaru's working on anything like that. All their job listings on their site list VR games.

Naughty Dog has been a "one production with smaller, pre-production team" studio for a very long while now. I think they should invest their growth into making games like TLOU II great. Not siphon from bigger projects to make Jak 4.

It's such a weird thing to even want this though. I thought the same thing when people were clamoring for them to reboot Crash. Those guys have been removed from those franchises for like 1.5-2 decades by now. The vast majority of people who worked on those projects probably don't even work there anymore. You might as well ask another studio to make those games, because Naughty Dog as a studio today isn't the same as it was back then. They're into furthering the medium these days.

If that is the case, they shouldn't made Uncharted Lost Legacy either.

They can handle a side project or two and still make TLoU II great.

just getting started huh?
Dreams beta, plz!

I suspect that, GT Sport, Knack 2, and Detroit will get release dates soon.

Lost Legacy is an actual production though. Only once that's done in August does TLOU Part II go into full production. Unless I'm mistaken, you were proposing that they do two simultaneous productions, which is where the siphoning comes in.

I figure it would be something like Ratchet and Clank. A reimagining of a previous game that wouldn't be in development for very long. Something a small team works on while the vast majority work on TLoU2.

I'm just playing around with ideas for how it could work. I don't think this is what they are actually doing. I do think they have some stuff going for that new IP though.

Do you guys/girls think there'll be a surprise at E3 or will it just be everything we expect (Days Gone, Sucker Punch, Spider-Man etc.)

Also, fun fact: Asad means lion in Arabic

I don't think we'll be getting a Jak game for a while.

Then why gauge interest with giving Jak away for free when you preorder Lost legacy at retail?

YOUR NOT ready for what Sony is going to drop. Think about prior PSX and what they have shown that we haven't seen anything on in a while? You will see gameplay for Shenmue 3 on their stage and possibly an announcement from sega for HD collection.

Your either will see FFVII remake episode 1 gameplay or they are saving it for PSX. My gut says E3 with a playable demo at PSX. Plus there are a couple games that insiders have hinted at that we might see.

But I think a lot of the presentation will be made up of Destiny 2, Red dead, Days gone, Spiderman gameplay with it closing with god of war or sucker punch's new game.

I don't think it's necessarily gauging interest. It could be just a throwback and an incentive for people to pre-order. Something about both games having 'Legacy'.

That's what concerns me, all these surprises have been shown the past few years and they're done with, what else remains.

KH3 has like 5 combined minutes of gameplay footage since being announced in 2013. I would not bet the house on seeing FF7 at E3.

I'm excited for Lost Legacy and TLOU2 and thoroughly enjoyed the four Uncharted games along with the first TLOU...

But I have to say that I wouldn't mind something new from Naughty Dog. Nothing against cinematic third person action games, but I'd like to see them tackle something in either a new genre or a wildly different setting. Everyone likes to toss around a sci-fi IP and the more I think about it the more I think that would satisfy my craving. Imagine something character/cast driven like Firefly with Naughty Dog's writing and presentation and combat as strong as Uncharted 4? Amazing!

We probably won't see it until the PS5 reveal at the earliest, but I'm eager to see what Bruce does since it's all but guaranteed he's going to lead a new IP when he's back full time.

Release dates for Ni No Kuni 2,GOW,Spiderman and Days Gone next pls.

How about a survival horror game?(with much more emphasis on horror elements as compared to TLOU)

So long as I can fight stuff haha. Personally I'm not a big fan of horror games where you're defenseless. But their ability to create a compelling story could work well for a horror game.

I would think that if Druckmann went from Uncharted to The Last of Us, in case of a new ip and being sci fi it would be something like Blade Runner or something with a serious tone.
I think Wells said once that they wanted to do serious games now and that's why they don't make Crash types games anymore.

I wouldn't expect an Uncharted tone in a sci fi game from Naughty Dog today but it could happen, maybe if Bruce makes his own project.

Yep, Sony needs a new Sci-fi IP
Druckmann can do this.

Well, mind you, Insomniac is an independent studio. They are monetarily motivated to accept cash-cow projects like movie tie-in remakes and whatnot. I'm sure if you'd ask them if they'd rather have worked on that instead of something new of their own making, you'd more often than not get the latter as the answer. But they need to make some safe bets to offset the risky ones, which is much less the case with Naughty Dog, where Sony's a huge safety net in that regard.

And in regard to the new IP, I think it's pretty evident that Bruce will be incubating that one once he returns. Can't wait to see what they'll dream up next. Like others have said, I would love it if it'd be Sci-fi, and more specifically space sci-fi at that!

Would it be out of the realm for a open world Ape Escape/Sly Cooper ala Zelda with alot of world interaction? Is Sanzaru capable of this?

The fact that they let TLOU2 be announced at PSX instead of E3 (to counter buzz of likely new IP from MS etc.) is all the proof I need that Sony will still have surprises.

I think Sanzaru wanted to create a Batman Arkham-like Sly game (which would've been freaking fantastic) but couldn't due to budget constraints.

A darker (not Jak II edgy darker) Sly game would be fantastic with gameplay like Batman's slow one-by-one takedown stealth system thing.

Yeah, TLOU2... That's a HUGE card to play imo. I mean, there are never any guarantees, but it sure seems to point to the notion that they have even bigger cards than that.

Nah they can't have a bigger card... I mean, what would it be? I bet they have a lot of big stuff to show and they wanted to get out of the way the reveal of Part II and start to work hard on the game.

I think is safe to asume that E3 will feature: God of War, Days Gone, Spiderman, Detroit, Dreams, Uncharted Lost Legacy, GT Sports, maybe Sucker Punch game? and all the third party, VR, and indie games. It's already packed.

Time for Agent to be re-announced :p.

Some of these games will get a pre E3 trailer like last year ( GT Sport was one of them for example). There will be a lot of third party content too.

lol

Sony owns the ip
I know. I was just referring to the studio going multiplat. Obviously if the ever want to make a sequel they will have to work with Sony again. Or Sony can put someone else on a sequel

First party wise, there isn't any bigger card than TLOU2. Announcing it at PSX when they know Microsoft and Nintendo are gonna be coming out guns blazing is a promising sign for them though

I think it is more that they were just ready to announce it. Plus, they wanted an announcement that would prop up PSX.

I don't think announcing TLoU II at PSX had anything to do with Microsoft and Nintendo.

Maybe, maybe not, but I don't think they would have announced it there if they didn't have some big announcements planned for E3. They've been the talk of the town for the last few E3's and I don't think they want that to change

I agree with your first point. A big part of the announcement was to shut up the "PSX just focuses on indies and nothing big gets announced there" talk

It seems like an interesting situation over there at Supermassive. I mean, they essentially got given the Decima Engine to make Until Dawn. Will they make the same type of game and have it be multiplat, like a Dark Souls/Demon Souls scenario? What technology will be used in their future games if they can't use Decima? Are they making 2 games, one for Sony, and one multiplat? Questions, questions.

Btw, where is Jenova Chen and his next game? I can see him signing at least a (console?) temporal exclusive + marketing deal with Sony like many important indies did these recent years.

Maybe even his project got canned, got no money and signed with Sony to make a new IP for them.

I think ND has a Jak 4 (it will be a reboot though) up their sleeves.
Please no. I don't want to see Naughty Dog working on Crash or Jak.

I'm ok with them making some Uncharted spin-offs, The Last of Us sequel and spin-offs while also starting a new IP like Savage Starling or any new ideas and IPs they may want to do.
