found the 40th anniversary Luke and Leia at wal mart today. couldn't resist. packaging is too godly.

also, $30 CAD each. fuuuuuuuuuck.

Hmm that Black Series Rey looks pretty damn cool so I might pick it up. Another Jyn Hot Toys? there goes my wallet again.

Just remember Hot Toys headsculpts used to look like this back in the day.

compared to this which is a different scale but there's an definite improvement in figure quality, accessories, mobility, materials, details, etc.

I bought Iron Man Mark 1, 2 and 3 for 600 bucks back in 2008 or 2009. A single 1/4 Iron Man figure costs like 725 and up due exchange rates :(

Without scrolling down to see below the chin I had no idea who that was supposed to be.
But the competition has gotten better, too.
Figuarts Tony Stark is amazing.

I agree that HT face sculpts have improved a lot. But I still wish they kept their prices under control. Lowest is $220 now for a figure with not many accessories.

i do understand the benefits of more gimmicks for 1/4 ironman suits bc it's larger but what's the differences between 1/4 vs. 1/6 non mechanical figures.

Honestly until 1/4 Iron Man figures go die cast I think the 1/6 figures are just better made and designed since they use the actual metal to add some heft.

Does Hot Toys currently have any direct competition? I feel like they can get away with their prices because no one really competes with them, license-to-license. It seems like all other notable 1/6 companies survive by picking licenses that Hot Toys doesn't. Sideshow does Star Wars, but that's pretty much it.

Competition in the same scale with the same license in the same market is usually not possible legally.
Sideshow isn't competition. They have a partnership with Hot Toys.

Legal? In the smaller scale high-end you have Mafex, Figuarts, Comicave, Figma, Mezco, etc competing with the same brands and characters but once you reach 1/6 you don't really have the same kind of choice.

Heck, just with Iron Man alone all the companies I mentioned above offer figures you can choose between.

Well, if you go up a scale to 1/4, you have what... XM Studios, ARH Studios, Sideshow Collectibles, HMO Collectibles, Prime 1, ... and they're all quite expensive, to say the least.

And most of those have to be imported from resellers because they aren't allowed to be distributed in the US. Even when they are they need to throw other stuff in to jack up the price enough for the domestic licensors to be comfortable with them.

Yeah, once you go into 1/4 things become prohibitively expensive unless you go with NECA stuff.

True, but at least those figures exist and you not only can get them via multiple means if you look around enough, but you also have alternate choices from competitors vying for your money.

I don't question the likelihood of legal stipulations on 1/6 distribution, but I feel like there's a dearth of 1/6 product from all points of the spectrum to begin with. You don't see lower-end Hasbro 1/6 MCU stuff. No one does mid-tier 1/6 stuff, and when you move into high-end, Hot Toys is often the only game in town anywhere.

Except Barbie, lol.

Now that I've crossed the threshold into buying figures with fabric outfits, I can't hate, some of those don't look half bad, lol.

Anyway, Mafex just showed a final production sample of their Rey figure. What do you guys think?

Great spread of accessories. It's too bad Mafex has a bit of a bad reputation on QC. I hope they can continue to improve because they are just a few steps away from being the best in scale. They work harder on accessories than Figuarts which I really admire.

Flare will be making a 2B non-poseable scale figure at some point.

Nothing announced. Kind of doubt it since Square is usually anal about other companies making figures based on their properties. The upcoming Flare figure was a big surprise.

You know what would make cool Nendos. Monstress.
