Bayonetta out on Steam (4K, dual audio), $19.99, PC launch trailer, dev diary

I see it has that weird blur on fast movement that a lot of xbox/ps3 games had back in the day. Doesn't seem to be a way to remove it so I guess I can live with it. Strained my eyes a lot on the starting fight though.

I'm glad more people get to experience one of the best hack and slash games ever made. Up there with DMC3, MGR & Bayonetta 2.

I do hope SEGA ports Vanquish next because more people need to experience that game as well.

I never understood the appeal of endless combos.

At this point you're not really interacting with the enemy, its just a punching bag.

Unless its a fighting game(where the ultimate goal is to maximize reward from a good read against a human), doing combos on AI dummies isn't great combat to me.

Anyway, different strokes.

Yup.

Why I prefer souls/Ninja gaiden. You fight to kill over stylish combos.

Probably why I suck at fighting games. Hate memorizing combos.

Fixed that for you.

Bayonetta 1 isn't about combos, they are just situational ways to input different strength of attacks during the short time frames you are actually safe from enemy attack. With the genius that is dodge offset this means that the game is a constant dance between offense and defense. The enemies are NEVER punching bags on the higher difficulties and are a constant threat. Same goes for you. This game is completely insane and makes the concept of doing flashy combos just for the sake of it pretty laughable. I do love DMC still, but god damn...

760 is actually the recommended requirement!

And that digital foundry tweet earlier had a Radeon 7770 doing well at 60 fps. And that's like a 650, or maybe 660 equivalent.

I have the same card as you actually but sadly I have to wait for my internet to download the game before I can get into it.

ohh cool to hear

thanks lucebuce ( seems like you answer my questions everywhere, lol)

overkilling the fuck out of enemies is fun sometimes

Oh you two. You use the larger combo strings on the big enemies.

You can still mow down hordes of smaller enemies.

Also stylish combos is the crux of many beat em up action games. It's part of the charm, getting intimate with the game's systems.

Also any excuse to post this:

This is amazing news! What a steal at 20 bucks too. I'm especially excited since I played the ps3 version which had a lot of performance issues so getting to go through it again with perfect frame rate will be great.

Ehh that's not true, the better you do in a fight in ninja gaiden (meaning higher combos, more variety), the more and bigger orbs the enemy drop, which mean more points and easier ultimate attack charging, you straight up get rewarded for big combos.

A. There are usually other enemies around, trying to knock you out of your combo.

B. Keeping a long combo going, racking up a high score, and doing your darnedest not to touch the ground is a formidable challenge in itself, even ignoring the enemies from point A.

Bought the original when it came out on 360 and got about a quarter of the way in. Then got another copy when I bought 2 on WiiU, and got about half way through it the second time around. I enjoyed every bit of what I was playing, just due to time constraints never had a chance to finish it. If I have a 50% save on WiiU, is this port improved enough to warrant starting over a third time on PC?

Offset combos were true genius. Makes the game 100x better. It's one of those things where the more you play it, the more you get better, the more you love it, repeat ad infinitum.

Because you are watching a gif from a combo video.

You don't need to do endless combos to finish or enjoy these games.

The basic punch>kick>punch combo is pretty much the best and most efficient combo in this game. You can do just it over and over if you like.

You say it as if it's something you just press a button and it happens. It takes a lot more skill to do high level combos than to just normally go through the game and avoiding damage. Way more.

People don't do that shit on their first playthrough.

It is a case of different strokes, but there are action games focused on efficiency, like Ninja Gaiden and MGR. Bayonetta and DMC are all about being stylish. It's literally the genre.

I mean that gif is just a small showcase of what you're able to do. Mixing up combos and going basically all out feels extremely satisfyingespecially when you're not giving the boss or an enemy room to breath, not even for a second. It helps that it also looks amazing.

Fixed that for you.

It's been so long since I've played that game that I forgot about it lol but YES, NGB is up there for sure.

Truth. Bayo1 enemies are definitely not punching bags. That's why dodge offset is so crucial to the higher difficulties.

Dodge/Panther Offset is such a brilliant mechanic.

Bah, too bad I already spent my $20 on Planescape: Torment. Never played Bayonetta before but at that price point, plus a great port, I'll definitely buy it in a couple weeks.

Eh. Beat Master Ninja both 1 and 2. Didn't need endless combos. Just some basic stuff.

There are popular fighting games out there which much smaller combos than Souls/Gaiden. Some of them are more about positioning and landing an attack rather than doing long mindless combos.

You don't need them here either.

If you absolutely needed to do the combos you see in combo videos to beat these games, I'm pretty sure they would not sell enough to exist as a genre.

I've got a i7 6700HQ with a GeForce 980M gaming laptop.

Trying to run it in 2K or 4K. Getting mixed results in terms of framerate, but the game does look beautiful in 4K.

Endless combos done stylishly are amazing to watch and require a lot more skill to pull off then most current games. Hell DMC3 and 4 are aeons ahead of something like a Souls game when it comes to combat depth.

For Bayonetta yeah, not so much in general. It wouldn't be of much use in DMC for example and hasn't been all that useful in other PG games such as MGR.

I have a weird glitch where any of the cutscenes with the film roll effect will have the video both within the film roll frames but also as a quarter size version inside each frame......

I really doubt it is meant to look like that, but it is very bizarre

For reference, seems to be an issue with non-standard resolutions. If your 16:9 you'll be fine.
