Bayonetta out on Steam (4K, dual audio), $19.99, PC launch trailer, dev diary

Point blank to enemies, preferably many: 360 Left Stick > Jump > Instant Kick + Hold. Enjoy!

Wait what is this?

(is this the secret tech to make afterburner kick not whiff?)

I'm mostly looking for something that launches and has a gigantic hitbox.

I'm instinctively doing afterburner kick after a dodge and I hit nothing lol

EDIT:

Oh no wait, that's an actual move.

Lemme see what you can do with it :v

Great so far. 60 fps in game with settings maxed @ 1440p. Cutscenes are locked at 30. Also just using DS4Windows so I didn't have to bother with Steam, just worked (as a 360 controller)

Butter on my dual-core i7 (7500U) and 1060 in external enclosure!

Wait, is this the value for 3440:1440? Or is this just enabling 21:9 for arbitrary resolutions?
It's not exactly correct, but seems to work just fine.
3440x1440 is 2.39:1 rather than the 2.37:1 value listed here, and 21:9 is technically only 2.33:1
However 2.37:1 seems to be the only value that actually works. Anything else and I get a black screen when trying to load the game.

Stretches the HUD and movies too, of course, but hopefully this only has to be a temporary solution.

I actually bought a 360 to play Bayonetta back in 2010. Later I bought the PS3 version and almost three years ago the Wii U version.

Welp....time to quadruple-dip!

I did buy it.

It sucks in this game lol

Like, it has almost no hitbox when you attempt to use it as a launcher.

Because it's not a launcher, it's use is to keep the enemy you're already juggling in the air by kicking them higher. Even bayo 2 has much better launchers than afterburner kick.

Can you give more detailed instructions on this? I enabled the beta client and still can't find it under the Big Picture Mode settings.

Are you in the huge blue full-screen Big Picture Mode? When you are, there's a standard gear-looking Settings button in the top right corner. Then there are Controller Settings and then there is a PS4 Configuration menu.

Also you guys keep laughing about m/kb in character action games but some of the greatest DMC4 combo videos out there were performed on a keyboard. Mouse feels slightly janky but not horrible for all I've used it on; Angel Attack.

Nah and it doesn't launch enemies specifically but it sure as hell does a million damage, stunlocks everything and builds up insane combo score. You can follow up with any normal combo launcher into afterburner follow-up after that. The whip is also great to keep enemies airborne, especially combined with Kilgore enemy jumps.

There are actually people that play fps games with a controller, can't wait to see you guys in every Battlefield and Cod thread then?

What you're asking for is effectively the same as playing Age of Empires 2 with an SNES controller. Technically, it's possible to do. But why would you?

There is no PS4 configuration menu, even with beta opt-in enabled. I dunno wtf is going on.

Edit 2: All I get is this:

Bayonetta is definitely not meant to be played with KB+M, I mean the store page has it in all caps and bold that it's best enjoyed with a controller. KB+M support is there, but doesn't mean it's the proper way.

I liked it because it was just a plinking motion and went well into jump cancelling a weave in 2.

But yeah, it mostly just continues people in the air in this game as opposed to this instant thing you just throw out.

I'm mostly wondering what the "just throw out" move in this game is that puts something in the air quickly after I cancel a weave animation.

I should probably watch videos :v

That's not a great comparison. Playing with an fps with a controller doesn't touch the accuracy of kb+m, but it's very functional. Most fps games these days are designed with this control method taken into consideration. I'm sort of having a hard time understanding how this game would even work with a kb+m.

A better example would be controlling an RTS with a controller. Sure, you could, but that control method would actively detract from the game.

I'm not hating your choice of control method here, just looking for some insight.

Happy to see this finally released. Is there any chance of the sequel also coming to PC (not port begging, please don't ban me). I am just curious since I don't understand why they will bring just 1 game and not its sequel unless they are legally tied in some shit with Nintendo?

I can't get Bayonetta to select 1440p resolution. It just isn't available on my 4K TV, anyone know why? I just get some weird alternative pixel count and it only takes up half of the screen when I select it.

Playing fpses with a controller is a thousand times better than trying to play a character action game on a keyboard, and I'm telling you this as someone who has done both.

In the time you spent trying to beat the first level of Bayonetta with a keyboard and mouse, you could've called Geico and saved 15% on your car insurance.

Nintendo published it right? Probably funded the game to a certain extent? Seems very unlikely to ever leave Nintendo systems.

as mentioned on several pages in this thread, nintendo funded; nintendo owned code.

Bayonetta is more of an extreme example of mouse usage, not like Dark Souls 3 / Res Evil 7 where you can get away with it perfectly fine.

Thinking about it might not be so much the mouse rather than using the keyboard simultaneously for movement -and- combos. Unless you have one of those multiple button mouses to compensate for the buttons, but that's like 8 buttons needed.

When's OT?

I wanna discuss the tech.

This is the first time like I'm really trying to learn this game... and like, there's a lot to learn: I didn't realize that the wolverine brothers could flip out of your combo once you exited witch time.

Is there a way to catch them? I mash buttons on that dude in the air and he was mashing invisible frames for days lol

To be fair, well designed KB+m controls work even for action games. The Arkham games work well on PC for example. I still prefer a controller but KB&m controls don't have to be shitty.
