So if it is a GE, the vote will be between a pro-Brexit Conservative Party and a pro-Brexit Labour party.

Isn't it wonderful to have an opposition that agrees with the government? Jolly nice of Labour to fall in line rather than stick to their actual policy.

I guess an elecetion means mandate will become the new Will of the People™ blanket buzzword for the next couple of years.

I laughed at this way harder than I should have.

The now yearly summer voting tradition.

EDIT: There is no official badge on the PM's lectern. Suggests either a general election or a resignation statement https://twitter.com/christopherhope

Having another major election less then a year after the most recent one could hurt the UK conservatives this time a bit, but not enough for labour to beat them.

Bring it on. The English can vote in the Tories like they usually do and we can be closer to not ever having to worry about it again.

Yeah, this is a huge boon for the SNP. May's whole argument about blocking the Scottish referendum was predicated on the idea that Brexit has a very tight schedule and the government doesn't have the resources to cope, which has the advantage of being technically true. But if May suddenly decides she has time to hold a UK-wide general election? The SNP will be making hay out of this all day e'ry day.

Remember guys

Not is not the time.

How can we make a decision without the full facts in front of us?

Calling it now suggests to me that they expect public sentiment to shift based on how EU negotiations are going, seems weird timing otherwise.
Of course. They've been drumming the EU needs us more, EU wants to punish us lines a lot. Time to destroy labour before the real shit starts.

Polls cannot be believed anymore when it comes to voting going by brexit...

The polls for Brexit were actually pretty accurate. Certainly way more accurate than the say, 25% margin of error that would be necessary for Labour to win a general election.

Make no mistake about it - Labour are going to get destroyed. The Conservative political broadcast could be Theresa May beating a nurse with a pillowcase full of batteries and they'd still gain seats.

So, I don't understand. Are elections good or bad news?

As I see this from Spain with my short understanding of British politics:

Pretty much a sign that things will go south for a good while with Brexit and they want to win them before that happens and more people start to hate them and vote someone else.

Labour will be now assuredly be out of the picture for another full term.

Also, an overwhelming Tory majority would lead credence to the SNP's other arguments.

Imagine if UK politics was decided via WWF wrestling.

"May is on the podium about to announce-

OMG. Blair is rushing the podium and he got May from behind and-

He's giving her a suplex! By god he's broken her in half!"

No, so what is the point of this election? To consolidate more power to the conservatives and obliterate the Labour party.

Yep, pretty much.

The Conservatives are consistently polling at 20 points ahead of Labour. It means their majority of a few seats can be increased to as many as 100.

If Brexit was done by constituency it would have been an overwhelming majority for Brexit.

Probably a rather safe election for Conservatives?

Do we really have to go through two months of this shit? Can't we just assume the Tories will win everything in England and the SNP will win everything in Scotland and just avoid all this hassle?
