I thought fixed terms meant that she has no power to call a general election...
The problem is that remainers don't have a good party to vote. Corbyn is a spinless leaver. And I don't know about the Lib Dems.
Well if it's a GE at least (presumably) corbin will leave after this. Hopefully he has that much shame anyway.
Just worried about how many labour mp's will even be left after this.
If the it is the Queen passing away does that mean Charles will be King when Trump snakes his way over here?
She's announcing that she'll be the next DoctorAnnouncing the new Doctor Who, I'm sure.
Yeah, basically. Going by polls I believe she'd emerge with a bigger majority from a fresh election (?), which I guess she'd view as helpful wrt Brexit and all that. She must be very confident if that's the plan anyway.
Hopefully remainers would actually come out and deal her a blow though, if it is actually a sizeable constituency. Enough twittering - here'd be the chance to demand a change in direction, at least in how Brexit is approached.
Cornyn doesn't have any intention of leaving even if they lose a general election.Corbyn won't be there forever

So how fast will a GE happen? Isn't that kinda shooting yourself as Brexit clock is ticking?
U Turn on Brexit.
They've realised it's a massive mistake.
I'd have thought so. An election should have been called before A50.So how fast will a GE happen? Isn't that kinda shooting yourself as Brexit clock is ticking?

I think that's maximum time for terms
George VI's death was announced at 11:15am...

Wait was the queen ill?
A GE is likely to happen in the next 6-10 weeks if she calls for one if she is not roadblocked in parliament.
Legally, she could hold an election with 17 days of triggering the FPTA, iirc. Could be done with very quickly, although I doubt it would be done quite that quickly for PR reasons.
Source? I thought the announcement was at 10:45am there.
She had a bad cold over Christmas but since recovered.
If it is to call a GE, she will need a 2/3 majority vote in the House of Commons to overrule the Fixed-Term Parliaments Act.

Hmmm good pointThe next Master seems more likely.
