Samsung Galaxy S8 · S8+ |OT| - Available April 21, 2017

Just now hitting 22% after playing Spotify through the night. Oh boy this battery life is stubbornly good.

I don't notice it on my phone, but I liken the reddish tint on the sides to viewing a tv at a side viewing angle.

Has anybody tries the dual Bluetooth yet? I'm also loving the feel of the screen. If feels extra smooth.

Yeah, I tested the dual Bluetooth the other day. It's pretty sweet, but one of the speakers had some minor lag on the sound - which was warned about when you enable it.

how many other android auto users are there in here? My galaxy s8, unlike my s6, is fucking immediately having a communication error issue/freezing the second I connect it. Tomorrow I'm trying multiple cables but I am about to flip my shit. Might have to try turning off fast charging as well to see if that's causing problems.
No issues using my S8 with my wife's 2016 Volt and Android Auto. Was using GPS and streaming music.

In the end I went with the Liquid Air case, rather than the Ultra Hybrid I was talking about earlier. It looks good enough and I like the way the back of the case feels.

Seems like it should be possible.

I could imagine something like the phone sending a test sound to each speaker, listening for it and figuring out the delay.

I wonder if a DJ could use this at a party somehow and have A/B songs playing out of different speakers. It'd be neat.

I have this setting enabled and this isn't happening on my phone. What gives?

I had to go in and enable exactly what applications will activate the Edge Lighting. At first it was just messages but I set it to Outlook, YouTube, Skype. Or you can choose all available apps. It seems to only activate on the Always-On screen.

Ahh, well I just noticed that it did do it on messages but I thought it would be persistent. It just happens once. Makes sense I guess.

Is there a way to mix and match the infinity wallpaper theme? I want one of those on my home/lock screen but want the always on to remain plain black.

Yeah, if I disable bixby, it doesn't work. I disabled bixby global action and bixby service and it worked, but not the one just labeled bixby. I have to double tap the bixby button, though. Maybe that's how it always? Not sure why you're getting the flashlight. Assigning an app in bixby remapper worked perfectly fine for me.

Wonder if Samsung will be dicks and keep trying to block apps like this from working.
Yeah it still opens bibxy though so no real point. I'll just wait and see if someone else manages to do it.

I don't see an update on Verizon. Though I want that DQA shit to stop. I have to redo work around when getting home.

Just got this phone. Last Galaxy I had was the S3, and my phone I'm replacing was the Droid Turbo 1. So far biggest things that stand out are the build quality, design, and camera quality. Truly remarkable. It actually seems not quote as smooth framerate wise as my Droid Turbo, but it seems faster than it, so that's good.

Still very early impressions, but I am really liking it. EXTREMELY premium feeling. I LOVE the black, btw. It's so cool how it's COMPLETELY black all around. Best looking phone ever.

god I'm hoping that if they aren't going to let me use that button for google assistant that they at least allow me to turn off Bixby. I have zero interest to use that fucker.

Any one figure out how to disable the forced brightness youtube triggers? Makes watching a YouTube video in bed a night a pain.

Anyone else notice game performance is pretty meh. Stuttering and general frame lag.

Most games I've tried runs as good or better than my pixel.

What games have affected you?

The Transformers Fighting one, Avengers Academy was awfully laggy at the beginning. Going to try more when they finish downloading.

Any good cases with a cover?

I bought the official S-flip cover from Samsung and it's pretty sexy looking. It turns off the always on display when you close it and it can supposedly let you answer phone calls even with the cover on. And it doubles as a kick stand.

I don't know how much protection it can realistically give if the phone fell down, but it's better than no protection and it integrates fairly well with the phone so why not.

Video enhancer is what makes it brighter i think.

Damn now I'm not sure about the orchid gray color. Should I stick with it before it ships or switch it to black? The fact that the entire phone including buttons is black is pretty damn slick.

Super impressed with the battery life on the s8+. I basically had it for more than 40 hours without any charging and normal usage, and it still was at about 19%. And this is at high performance settings.

Also, for all the complaints about the fingerprint sensor location, it's not bad at all to reach it, and the eye scanning works, at least for me, pretty fast with contacts or glasses on. Even with poor lighting, which surprised me.

Very impressed so far.

I have that too and the Keyboard cover. Both are hard plastic shells, so no fall protection from either.

The only decent thing is that the phone detects the case and offers you to change themes according to what case it has.

And yes, you can answer or reject calls with the cover on of the official S-flip case. Done it several times.

Tempted to go for the Otterbox but I imagine taking off the phone will be a PITA so no using the Gear VR much with it.

has someone down a fall test with the official cover? I don't drop my phone like at all, but I can only image it should at least offer basic protection. I mean the phone is still inside of a nest for the s flip cover, so if it fell down face first the cover should in theory hit the ground first and then the 'nest' follows.

Kinda want but flip cases don't work well with car mounts. Hmmm.

I bought the LED wallet case from samsung and paid full price but I feel it was worth it in looks and usefullness.

I really do love this phone but perhaps i love the most is the SOC 835. This has been BY FAR the best chipset to date by QC.

It runs like a champ with great battery life. I can't say enuff good things about it. 2nd is the screen. Black bezels while small in detail adds overall to a great looking screen that has to be seen to be appreciated.

I recently leaned that using the iris scanner i don't have to always unlock and scoll up , i can just enable unlock directly after power unlock.

I also learned that you can have default ask instead of it automatically choosing default after a 1 and done.

Now i just need to learn how to set up multiple days for Do Not Disturb. I only get to set up a schedule for one day. On LG you can.

Oh and buying a samsung TV was the best ever ...even tho its being used to spy on me I can use my phone to control functions and even output to tv (mirror) or even mirror to my phone! Its like I don't even need an ir blaster even tho i do.

Still hard plastic, I don't think it will offer too much protection on the front either.

What should I quote?

I need an answer because this is driving me crazy, not knowing if I should be happy with my unit or ask for an exchange.

Does every S8s have the different color on the curved edges like described in this video ?

https://youtu.be/xvFvOGH__kk?t=5m9s

I thought my S8 was faulty and victim of the red tint issue, but I'm pretty happy with my white balance. The red hue at the edge is not a deal breaker, it's a little bit distracting on white background, but I can live with that if you tell me it is the downside of the curved edge and every screens have this issue.

The red tint issue muddies the water and I don't know if people are talking about the white balance at the center of the screen or just the difference at the edges, because of the curved display.

The video from Unbox Therapy adress the red tint issue, but not the red tint only on the edges.

I really need more inputs from trusted S8 owners.
Color warps on corners due to the laws of physics.

End of story.

Nice. I'm at 26 hours with 10% left with full res and always on display.

Edit: really tempted to get the Gear Vr. Need to read more about it.

For those of you who have the pinkish red borders on the edges use code *#15987# and select -6 and the tint should go away quite a bit. My screen had it and it is now barely visible.

May be because I'm on Verizon, but I just get the number can't be dialed message. Fortunately I don't have the red tint issue but I was just curious to see what it would do.
