Sony are killing it for 3rd Party Marketing / Exclusive Content Deals

Third Party & Marketing Deals have with Exclusive or Timed Exclusive Content always seem like it's paying for someone else to get it later but man Sony has some absolute Juggernaught Multiplatform game rights to promote on their platform for the end of the year.

PlayStation

- Call of Duty
- Destiny
- Battlefront
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- Far Cry 5
- FIFA

Xbox

- Shadow or Mordor


Anything I'm missing?
What's GAFs thoughts on this and these types of deals?
 
The biggest deals were those that happened early in this gen's lifecycle. Sony snatched COD, Destiny, Watch Dogs and Rockstar. That was the greatest victory of Sony marketing teams.


Now the situation is a bit expected. Big multiplatform hits are seeking to be promoted on the best selling console in the wild.

But yet, they are normal even outside of consople gaming industry. Having presence in commercials from hardware owner is a big deal. Every developer in the world would kill to be showcased in Apple keynotes and be present in Apple TV ads.
 
This is IMHO the worst thing in this industry, stupid exclusive content. It's just annoying and stupid. We should not support that. Glad, that Microsoft is not supporting this crap.
 
Not good for consumers but getting marketing deals/exclusive content with the biggest games is a smart business decision to make.
 
Its great for them, but bad for us

Also, Xbox will prob get AC Empire marketing (witch should be announced in the next couple of weeks too)

Yeah I have no problem all the Call of Duty commercials showing the Playstation logo but getting exclusive content or content early is stupid and just annoying for consumers.

They "don't" support this crap but they pay to delay complete games 1 year on other plattforms...
 
I don't like this.

Sony should fund new interesting games, not this boring stuff. MS too.

Nintendo is the only one who makes this right, real "for the players".
 
At this point, won't everybody knows all the AAA games are coming to both PS and Xbox?

It's been 2 generation like this.

Content though, maybe it does make a difference.

What's dirty about them? We're all getting these games at the same time but if Sony didn't cut those deals, Microsoft would. Sony has to do whatever it takes to stay ahead of the competition. Long may it continue.

These deals sucked when Microsoft had them last gen, and they suck now that Sony has it. Really nothing to brag about.

I think it sucks for the consumer.
 
I had all the consoles (sold the XB1, but that cross buy thing may as well be an XB1) and I still hate these deals. Why lock people out? Do people really care about the tiny DLC things they supply enough to pick your console? PS4 was already outselling XB1 before the COD deal moved.
 
That sort of stuff has never been more meaningless to me than it is now. Exclusive stuff like that and preorder bonuses are becoming more and more irrevelant, it's about who can sell you a cheaper copy now.
 
Getting marketing rights on the largest and most popular platform is just common business sense.

But the exclusive timed shit has to stop. Nobody benefits from that. Sony is no exception.
 
I really hate this shit. Especially with Sony and Capcom being bed buddies. First SFV is a Sony exclusive and then the VR Mode for RE7 is locked to PS4 for a year. Like WTF? This is not beneficial to me as a consumer regardless of whether I own all platforms or just 1.

I expect DMC5 to be a Sony exclusive next too and/or Marvel Infinite to have to PS4 only content.
 
Personally I have never bought a game on a specific platform for its exclusive content, usually find it irrelevant.
 
It's not even nothing to be mad about honestly. It happens all around the world not just with consoles. Sony will continue to do it,Microsoft will and Nintendo will. It's a business.
 
Yeah, they are killing it by throwing cash at several projects. Marketing 101.

Now to see if MS can capitalize on Sony's marketing dollars with the better version of those big games.

lol wut? Sony is GETTING PAID to pomote these games. Their game development budget has nothing to do with these external partner deals.

You can't be mad with SFV exclusivity just like you can't be mad with Bayonetta 2 exclusivity.
 
Taking away that COD exclusive window from Microsoft was easily the biggest acquisition a hardware developer could take.

What? It's a little different from the Destiny model in that they helped fund development on Tomb Raider. They have a right to an exclusivity period on that.

Sony have been known to be dirty with their marketing blackouts and doubling down on deals to extend exclusivity after it was previously announced Destiny exclusive content would be on Xbox a year later. They quietly extended that and the content was pushed back another year.

Also the whole "Nier is only on PS4" shit that they clearly had Square blocked from discussing wasn't a good look. If they had funded development here that would be one thing but they didn't.

It was pay to keep shut.

What? You have that backwards. Sony pay for marketing deals not the publisher. It's what they hope getsnpeople to buy in on their platform. Same for MS and Nintendo.
 
Xbox would've needed two or three massive blockbusters to market this holiday because they only have what, Forza and State of Decay? Maybe Crackdown?
Maybe they have Wolfenstein and Elder Scrolls, hopefully the new Splinter Cell if it exists.

Related to Destiny if its gonna be the same as Destiny 1 its not that good for PS4 players also. Because of the locked content. The maps, strikes and weapons that were exclusive were not used for Nightfalls, Xur and Trials until Xbox players also got it.
 
I don't like the them and frankly, I don't think they have to try very hard seeing as they're doing so well in console sales.

The Spotify deal stings me the most. It's a
Just appalling to pay for exclusivity of a service on a platform.
