I think there are a few possibilities where you can avoid the hitbox issues. Batwoman could still POSSIBLY stand in for Batman. Jessica Cruz could still possibly stand in for Hal Jordan.
But yeah, a lot of them just won't work.

The matchmaking is region free this time. Previously NRS games were region locked in online game modes.
Yes yes, but I'm asking how it finds opponents.
Does it target people close to you based off your connection, or does it put you in a pool through the game's region ?
Region free means you can invite friends from any version, but that doesn't tell me what ranked is gonna default too.
Many games that are "region free" lock the matchmaking through "game region" which is dumb, instead of connection based.
And can you search for people "4 bars, 3 bars" etc... or it's "same region" in the options ?
Once again, many games have the terrible idea to use the "same region" feature instead of bars which means if you don't have the game version where you live, you're basically screwed.

From my time with MKX, I believe it's connection based. I live in Pakistan and got matched up with people from a variety of places but the shorter the wait-queue, the better the connection.
The most recent game that uses region filtering was KoF XIV and as a result, finding a match was always next to impossible even when you take into account the smaller playerbase.
Region filtering is becoming an outdated concept, it's rare to find games that do that now. Some still do granted, but most have moved past it.

Not sure about maining, but i'll try Cheetah first, then Swampy, then Bane. Wouldn't be surprised if i ended up maining Cheetah or Swamp Thing.

Scarecrow's a lock.
I'm gonna try my best to keep either Poison Ivy or Black Canary as a secondary.
Will also play Vixen if she shows up.
EDIT: Might play Green Lantern exclusively in unranked mode. I would LOVE to play as Blue Lantern Hal.

Really like the gear options for GL.
Not sure yet. While I dig the roster and think it's really strong, and way better than the first one, there're no characters I'm a major fan of that I'm head over heels for. I'll give Swamp Thing, Scarecrow, Grodd, Doctor Fate, Blue Beetle, Captain Cold, Atrocitus, Poison Ivy and Brainiac a try, and try and figure out which one I like the most.

Thanks for the link! Green Lantern's gear sure is looking good! I hope I beat the odds and earn one of the spectrum shaders early.
Hopefully they have gear with the symbols of the other Corps to go with the shaders

Yuck at that meter burned Oa's Rocket replacement. That was such a great combo starter in IJ1

Same for me with the exception of maybe Deadshot. He's just too much of a keep away character by the looks of it.

Yeah, Deadshot just seems kind of bland to me... Same goes for Cheetah and Cyborg. However, Cyborg's new trait is interesting to me as it opens up for more combo potential. I'm curious to try him out. Robin and CC are definitely day one characters for me.
And I need to see Starfire and her gear options for research purposes.
I totally forgot about Cyborg. That's how much I care about Cyborg.
I dunno, I haven't seen a Starfire costume that's not total shit.
Haha yeah. And I should add that if I do play as Cyborg then I will be exclusively playing with the Grid skin only lol. I want full on robot madness. I just don't understand why they didn't totally revamp him, he definitely needed an overhaul. I think his grapple should have been a standard command rather than super jump motions, and cause a hit on contact like Spencer from MVC lol.

For whatever reason, they brought back Black Adam but not Shazam. It's possible Shazam might be a premium skin for Black Adam but don't expect anything more than that.
Shazam and Black Adam were both in Injustice 1.
