Samsung Galaxy S8 · S8+ |OT| - Available April 21, 2017

I gave the Samsung help desk a call today to get a status on the promotional order. The rep told me that I shouldn't worry and that I should receive the approval email with instructions on how to redeem the $99 offer. They said they are pushing them out soon and the regular VR offers are being pushed out sooner than the $99 offers.

She also said it will be much quicker than 4-6 weeks. I guess I just need to hang tight. *Sigh*

Just received shipping confirmation and it should be here Friday. It looks like it'll need a signature though, so I doubt I'll actually receive it. Is there any way to waive that?

For anyone else using Nova Launcher.. how do you hide the navigation bar on home? Seeing if I want to move from stock. Any way to get some weather widgets too?

Has anyone managed to find a screen protector (preferably tempered glass) that plays nice with the Spigen Ultra Hybrid case?

Do you guys think 4GB of RAM will be a bottleneck for this device? The OnePlus has 6GB of RAM, whereas the mid-range ZenFone 3 already has 4GB as well.

RAM isn't the issue. Samsung is just crazy aggressive with memory management, probably to help with battery life. Wish there was an option to go the opposite.

My 4gb pixel is way better at keeping apps up.

Oh, that's actually a plus for me. I much prefer battery life than keeping multiple apps open.

However, the battery is non-replaceable. I'm extremely wary that the battery will be dead in 2 years, necessitating an upgrade. In fact, this is why I'm considering updating my phone right now as it can't hold charge.

Interviews mentioned in the process of Samsung improving their battery nonexploding tech, they improved battery longevity. They mention it will keep 95% of max battery capacity after 2 years.

Let's see if that's true lol.

BixBye is an awesome app, highly recommend it. Even has Tasker Plugin support now.

I wish I wasn't too dumb to figure out how to combine Tasker with the BixBy button to launch Assistant.

Been messing around with mine today. Now I've got things setup as I like, the only thing I find garbage are the unlock methods. Hate the fingerprint location, face is hit or miss and iris won't even setup. Luckily I use an Android Wear device so I can use smart lock.

I don't think it s a bottleneck, or will be in the foreseeable future, but it feels like my phone is ALWAYS using 3GB+ of RAM. Not sure if it's caching stuff or what, but it seems odd, although it hasn't caused any problems.

Anyone getting weird text rendering in Chrome when using the S8+ in landscape more? Only happens on the far right like in this shot

The far right is always wrong, clearly... Hurrr..

I've been noticing that the signal reception on my S8+ seems to be a definite step down from my Nexus 6P.

At home I get a much weaker signal on the S8+ than my 6P and at work I used to get a full strength 4G signal on my 6P but the S8+ I just get a H+ signal.

So I've been with my S8+ for a little over a week now and I love it. However I'm coming off 6 years with an iPhone and one trasition that's really throwing me off is text messages. I initially did a transfer from my iPhone to my S8 and immediately the Samsung texting app blew up on me. Took minutes to load a text I just typed and crashed, likely loading all of my conversations (as I rarely delete it since I never noticed a drop in performance on my iPhone). I shopped around and landed on Android Messenger but my wife who still is in an iPhone out texts me every time. Mid conversation her texts coming flying in while my previous responses are still trying to send. I can't figure out if I'm just going about this wrong or what. I have more messaging apps to try.

Never had an issue with messaging. I personally use Textra, out of all the apps I've tried including Android Messenger, it is my top pick. Only other thing I'm guessing is the import messing up somehow, is it necessary to keep all the old texts?

If I had the option I'd like to keep them as I have done threads that go back to 2012. I'm not opposed to it full on since at the very least I know I have them all stored in my iCloud backup at least.

Yeah I would just delete them off the phone. Maybe importing the messages did something wonky.

Took them about 4 hours to approve the claim under Samsung Premium Care and ship the replacement for the cracked screen on my S8+.

I'm really impressed. Worth it.

I work in a phone store, and since I do, something the owners offer their employees is that we can buy a phone and pay in installments. And honestly, the Galaxy S8 is really tempting me.

The only thing is that i INSIST on getting the Orchid Grey. It's Orchid Grey or no deal. Which we don't stock at the store. So I'm hoping maybe he can order one, just for me?

I've never really had a high end phone. For the longest time I was using really cheap low end phones, and before that I didn't have a cell phone at all. But the Galaxy S8 is just so sleek, so powerful, so sexy...it's just calling out my name.

Got my s8 edge plus today from Verizon. They hooked me up with a case, screen protector and a portable charger as promotions. Are there any others out there.. I'm sure many have asked.. I'll go back a few pages and edit this..

Also main question... does someone know how to change the notification bar Color to black?

Get the black Galaxy S8. I don't really like black phones but it is by far the best color and blends seamlessly with the screen.

Still trying to figure that out myself, I've got everything black but the notification bar. smh

How to change the dpi?

Is there a way to unlick the phone via iris scanner without swiping up after pressing the home button?

You can use a theme on the phone I guess. Don't know what exactly that changes though

Got my free Gear VR in the mail today.
When did you put in your claim? My order has been placed since the 22nd and I still don't have a shipping notification. Has something happened on Samsung's end with orders? I've never tried VR and now I'm slowly losing interest in it. I even paid the $99 full experience. I feel ripped off at the moment.

Ah true, could be (I use it as well, it is pretty nice). Was thinking it was too early for it but obviously that user could be in Europe/Asia, which would make sense then.

Yeah, it was about midnight at that point.

Found a fix, kinda. It only happens at the max resolution. Bringing it down to FullHD+ fixed it.
