We may disagree on does and doesn't work in Super.

But I think we can all agree Mr. Satan being a proud mentor to Buu is fantastic.

LOOK AT EM! LOOK HOW PROUD HE IS!

Their relationship is perfect, buu listens to satan and he milks it when in front of the cameras, i'm glad that super kept them as a duo and originally I hated buu and his design.

The bang indicates he's Ultimate. I can bet he will power up and the bang will appear.

If you don't get it I don't know what to tell you.

Problem with that line of thinking. It could be an artistic choice, not showing an actual transformation. Super has already done that several times with Black being skinner than Goku and Future Trunks' blue hair while they kept Present Trunks' hair purple.

So saying it is a transformation based on him having bangs is highly flawed. It could be just a visual cue for the audience to say 'yes he's using Ultimate'. I don't have to tell you why they have to do it that way.

Gohan isn't two different characters...

The second thing makes almost no sense, a visual cue to show the audience that he's using ultimate? So... a different form.

No. Just Gohan using his full power as Old Kai stated. You have people confused for years since they couldn't tell when Gohan was or wasn't using his Ultimate power, so it would make sense to give them a visual cue that the audience recognized, but isn't acknowledged in universe. I only used Black and Future Trunks as examples, which flew over your head.

Other anime have done this before when a character suddenly have red eyes, yet no one in the work says anything like Light from Death Note when he's being particularly evil. Another Toei show that used this was Rurouni Kenshin where Kenshin's eyes would go amber when he went into Battousai on people.

He transformed into the form from Super Saiyan 2 by powering up. It's a transformation.
If he has to turn the power on and off and it changes his appearance, it's a transformation regardless.

All Piccolo said was 'awakening your true self'. That isn't a line used for a transformation since a transformation is closer to a limit breaker, not ones' 'true' self. Like no one calls Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Goku's true self. All Ultimate is Gohan with all his power unlocked and pushed to its limits.

Because Ultimate brings out his true power.

True power, not 'true self'. No other transformation is called someone's true self outside of final form Frieza or Perfect Cell. In Frieza's case, his transformations are limiters. In Cell's case, his biology actually changes.

If he has to turn the power on and off and it changes his appearance, it's a transformation regardless.

It isn't since that isn't the definition of a transformation. By that logical, Master Roshi getting buff is a transformation.

Bad luck its a transformation. You'll just have to deal with it.

Gohan's ultimate form literally surpasses the limit of his SSJ2 form. They've clearly made an effort in showing the transformation because it's been somewhat vague since Z. This is Gohan's equivalent to a SSJ3 transformation or possibly SSB transformation if he can do it from base form. But it's definitely a transformation.

He shows exactly that, it surpassed Super Saiyan 2. It was pretty much the same thing when Gohan first got Ultimate, especially when Old Kai said that transformations was the wrong way to go about it and Goku's comment that he's stronger than he ever was as a Super Saiyan.

It isn't Gohan's equivalent of any Super Saiyan form. It is all his power unlocked and pushed to its limit. That is how Old Kai described it back in Z. It is really no different that Roshi buffing himself up to access all of his power, but no one within the series calls it a transformation despite it being far more drastic than Gohan growing an extra bang.

When the show calls it such, I will. It hasn't.

I'd consider Max Power Roshi to definitely be a transformation. Requires ki to maintain or he loses it, amplifies his power, physical changes. All makes it sound like a transformation to me.

In terms of Gohan though, I'd still say Ultimate is a transformation since we've seen him power up to it several times.

Its demonstrated it as such. Have you seen the ep 90 stills? Its a transformation.

Max power Roshi isn't treated as transformation within the show itself, however. Heck, Cell didn't considered Ultra Super Saiyan a transformation. He just calls it Trunks puffing his muscles and anyone could do it, and then did it, yet no one called it a transformation.

Its demonstrated it as such. Have you seen the ep 90 stills? Its a transformation.

Yes, I've seen it. Him growing an extra bang doesn't make it a transformation, especially when Toei had used visual cues before in other anime like Rurouni Kenshin example I mentioned. Unless it is acknowledge as such in the show, that still doesn't prove that it's a transformation.

So what are we expecting of Gohan? With Piccolo saying he should be a lot stronger than he is right now with Mystic form.

SSB level

maybe a little less, but should be at the point where Beerus actually has to fight him, instead of just slapping him off

I'm rewatching Gohan becoming SSJ2 for the first time in DBZ and oh boy, I doubt they will ever top that. Best DB scene ever.

Absolutely. Best scene on the entire series. The feeling, the animation, the power, the message... Geez what I would do to experience that episode for the first time again.

DB Super is a joke when it tries to express all of that. I just appreciate how constant Super has been since episode 1 with almost no breaks.

That is because most transformation in Super are not emotional base. They are calm and serene. Only Super Saiyan Rage is closed to a burst of emotion.

Then again, I don't particularly care for Gohan's Super Saiyan 2 transformation outside of the music.

Buu should absorb other opponents.

It seems like an effective move, especially if he does the whole "detach a piece of himself that can sneak around the arena" strat rather than the food beam. Cell's tail was able to be fought off but no character has been able to resist Buu's blob thing.

To be honest I think the moment when Goku went SSB Kaioken was also amazing and up there with other great moments in DBZ. In my opinion, of course.

I wonder if Fat Buu has that ability still.

I wonder if Fat Buu has that ability still.

He probably does, but I didn't see him using it. First, because it's bad to absorb people against their will and absorption leads to a change in personality if he isn't careful. That is how Buu Buu became the playful Fat Buu.

I think the narrator made half of the scene for me, his lines (both in the Latam dub and the original version) made it hype.

Where are the rest of the Kaios that Buu absorbed? Fat Buu's existence still baffles me no matter how many times it's been discussed in this thread. Would make much more sense to me if he was the Dai Kaioshin now or he has very little bit of Buu in him now. I wonder if they can extract the Kais out of him now in his state.

he seems to only assume the most powerful part; when Gotenks unfuses his clothes become Piccolo's

but that doesn't explain why Super Buu is not just evil Fat Buu, but whatever. The only Kaiohshin that was manifested was the fat one

I think that when tv got to show the Cell saga here, I had long ago read the manga, so I skipped a lot

I remember watching the latam driving episode, but I've never seen the latam dub of the Cell saga climax, nor most of Buu. I saw most of dragon ball until Freeza and a little later; tho parts of the red ribbon saga had me doubting this whole dragon ball thing was ever gonna get good

I think it's because the Kais are pure good. That would also explain why Babidi couldn't use the Kais's energy.

And pure hearted =/= pure good. Look at Kid Buu who is also called Pure Buu.
