Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 |OT| Anyone can save the galaxy once - SPOILERS!

"Baby groot" felt like a mandate from disney tbh, like this small joke became a pop culture icon in the first film so make sure you fucking push him. I liked the movie but that felt pandering in the worst way.
Jesus Christ. Groot died in the first one and a new one was grown from a twig. This movie is a few months after the first.
Iittle groot is a thing in the comics too.

Why is it every time Marvel and lucasarts do something in a movie, some people are convinced it's because Disney forced them to?

Just like the Vader scenes in Rogue One amirite! Cool entertaining things that fans enjoy are terrible!

Stahp pandering, Disney.

It's really dumb how just because people liked the first movie Disney pandered and made a second one just so they could sell toys. Can we please get some things that we don't like for once?

I seem to have struck a nerve, look i liked the movie but didnt like baby groot, a few scenes were funny but to me some of it did feel like pandering to the "ah ma god, so cute baby groot!" Crowd that formed after the 1st film. They were able to use it for
Some solid jokes with the ravegers but the whole extended opening with him got kind of obnoxious. The awkward teen groot at the end was really funny though.

Easy way to push complaints

Gamora also gets hit with a bad case of Chickification in the first movie, where she's the only girl and the love interest so of course she has to act feminine and delicate so the white male hero can come to her aid and set the stage for them to bang.

The prison sequence is the worst example of that. You'd think that a killer with her reputation would have no problem going all Rorschach "I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with me!" on all of the low level thugs, but instead she acts threatened and intimidated so Peter feels the need to step in.

She's a lot better presented in 2.
Yeah, it felt like they were very aware of that criticism and made sure she was being treated well by the film.

The conversation about how Drax's plan to go inside makes no sense felt like it was totally out of Always Sunny (in a good way.)

I thought it had some enjoyable writing but the end was really drawn out and I feel the whole premise was kind of a TV-episode type of story.

Though, the overarching story here probably leads to the greater MCU.

People loved baby Groot at the end of the first one and people love him in this one, who cares why he was put into the film? It gave us a great character with a ton of great moments.

Also, no, I don't buy that Disney told them to put him in. This is a movie that was going to have Adam Warlock in it until James Gunn thought, "Nah, doesn't work" and now he's gonna be in the third.

Gunn came up with Baby Groot and pitched it. He wasn't sure Marvel would go for it.

Even if I'm not fond of baby Groot, I will admit that it's a rather smart spin on characters growing over the film's, where Groot literally became a child again. It also gives us a better look at Groot as more than just Rocket's tree friend.

Theres some emotional continuity with Baby Groot as well. They way the whole team is on the same page of "We gotta watch out for Baby groot." Never acting like he is a burden because he almost died to save them all.

Didn't really like it as much as the first. Felt too childish and too much 'forced' comedy. Some of the music choices were lazy and too on the nose, and yeah count me in as not the biggest fan of Baby Groot.

He did die. This isn't the exact same groot from the first. It's kinda like a clone of him.

There's like three extended Baby Groot scenes in the entire movie. I wouldn't even count the intro but fine. The second is on the Ravager ship which also serves to set up the Yondu and Rocket relationship and the other, significantly shorter one, is with the bomb. That's it.

In a 140min movie.

"Excessive", brehs.

Glad someone kept count.

I was reading the spoiler thread a lot to read impressions before I'd get a chance to see the film and with all the Baby Groot whining, I expected it to be a Baby Groot overload, but when I saw the film, I was surprised and almost disappointed how little he was in the film. Easily the Guardian with the least screentime.

I can only think that since he's such a big focus of the scenes he's actually in (being that they are basically Baby Groot gags), I can see why they stand out, but not to the point where some people feel they need to moan about how much he takes over the film.

Didn't love it. Was fine overall.

The main thing was the jokes just didn't land for me most of the time. Some really funny moments, but 80 percent of the time I felt like I was supposed to laugh I didn't even chuckle.

Those end credits were amazing. Not just the extra stingers, but also the animation, cameos, the hoff. This is one of the only movies where I enjoyed staying through till the end.

After having some time to think about the movie more, I still really enjoyed it but I was expecting more from it.

Really hope Guardians 3 tackles the Annihilation story and introduces Rich Rider Nova and Adam Warlock. Maybe these movies are just not what I want. I like having comedy in the movies, but Id like to see them do more.

People love baby Groot.

Get over it.

Plus, he's already outgrown the baby phase so let it go.

We are Groot is still the most emotional scene in recent Blockbusters

I think Yondu's sacrifices followed by Peter's speech and then his funeral were more emotional for me. I was already a mess but then the Ravagers showed up...

Mantis reacting to Drax's pain hit me harder, solely for how heartbreaking it is that Drax looming peaceful still feels utterly broken.

Dude needs to kill the fuck out of Thanos
That was rough. The lack of speaking or explaining or jokes made it one of the best moments in the movie. Especially after an hour of Drax just being a complete dick to Quill, the dude is torn up on the inside.

We're already getting Adam Warlock, & hopefully they put Rhomann Dey into play so we can get Richard Rider.

He's going to need to get in line behind Nebula and Gamora.

What are the odds that Drax's daughter isn't actually dead? She's supposed to be Moondragon after all.

I am fine with every Guardians movie have a badass prison break.. Yondu, Rocket, and Groot looking baller as fuck.

And Yondu's speech to Rocket hit me hard

Yeah man, and Yondu's sacrifice wasn't something I saw coming either, as I didn't read any spoilers about it, so I was much more surprised. Honestly it almost got me teary-eyed it was that well-done. Michael Rooker is so good.

Yondu is the mvp in this movie.

There is something really likeable about Rooker. I always like him on the Walking Dead. Now when I think about it, he had a pretty cool death in that one as well.

Baby Groot was the film's Ice Age Squirrel.

I thought this movie was super bland. Nothing about it really grabbed me, but it was all well done enough that it didn't bother me either.
It just happened.
