Nintendo E3 plans detailed

My predictions:

Blowout on the already known 2017 first party stuff: Odyssey, FE Warriors, Xeno 2, maybe a bit more of Splatoon. Pokemon Stars if real.

Third party segment- focus on FIFA, NBA2K, Skyrim, Sonic, Mario x Rabbids, and a surprise or two, probably from a Japanese developer.

Brief indie sizzle reel

Ends with announcement of Bayo 3 and Retro's game.

they don't need to do a lot to win this E3

Huh. So the Spotlight won't have 3DS games... That's good. Wondering when they are announcing the Superstar Saga remake then.

Considering last year they announced an actual new IP (Ever Oasis) and stealth released a game (Rhythm Heaven Megamix) during Treehouse, I give it a good chance of it being there.

The full press release that implied only a focus on this year's games has been talked about multiple times at this point, man.

Nintendo fans will riot if this time Nintendo only focuses on Super Mario Odyssey like the E3 that the focus was only on BOTW and 3DS games.

I mean, first of all that worked out pretty well for Nintendo last year. And second of all, they announced that it would be Zelda only quite clearly and far in advance. The tweet in the OP even says this will showcase several Switch games. So I'm not even sure where you got this idea.

Nintendo's E3 activities kick off Tuesday, June 13, at 9 a.m. PT with its Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017 video presentation. Available to view live at http://e3.nintendo.com, this presentation will offer more details about Super Mario Odyssey and other Nintendo Switch games, with a focus on games launching in 2017.

I mean, this is in the OP. It's not hard to read. "Focus on" is Nintendo code for "with some other stuff outside this focus".

I don't expect a lot of new games, but mario odyssey is going to blow our minds just like botw did. It + some surprises + dlc 2 for botw and i am extremely satisfied

sshhhhhh

As for previously unannounced things that we'll likely hear about:

-Mario x Rabbids
-Rumored third party developed Metroid title
-Pokemon Stars

And things I can only dream about:

-Platinum title (Bayonetta 3?)
-Exclusive Fromsoft title

That's a fantastic idea. Now I'll be disappointed if it doesn't happen.

Platinum - Scalebound.

I mean, he asked and I answered their question

It's in the OP it says "focus" on 2017 games.

*sighs*
Okay, thanks. Read it now.
With Nintendo though, it's still sometimes hard to gauge how their specific announcements will pan out. This could still essentially mean anything from 0-3 2018+ games announced.

It's not going to happen. They literally only had one game on the docket for Wii U and could not talk about anything else due to timing. I expect a lot of Odyssey at the show but they have a prefer diverse lineup and will announce a bunch of other stuff too. People shouldn't read too much into the wording.

I mean think this through logically. FFXV barely runs at a stable framerate on PS4. It's bursting at the seams with its resolution and framerate. How in God's name will they deliver FFVIIRemake without the mother of all downgrades?

Because it's using Unreal Engine 4 instead of Square's oddly complicated Luminous Engine.

The cycle of waiting for the next event after the upcoming one due to Nintendo not delivering. As per usual people expected this event to cover stuff for this year and next year if not further, and now that it is only covering 2017, we are seeing posts about waiting for the next direct. It's a common theme with Nintendo.

I think we're reading different threads, then. First of all the direct announcement (Business Wire press release) states that it is not only 2017, and secondly I haven't seen those posts, and I've read most of the thread. I think you're fabricating a narrative here.

How in God's name will they deliver FFVIIRemake without the mother of all downgrades? I would fear to see what remained of the title after they got done stripping it in order to get it to a workable framerate. It's probably best they get unique exclusive titles from Square like Octopath instead of dealing with that controversy :P

FFXV reportedly owes most of its performance problems to its engine, while FFVIIR is built on UE4, which the Switch supports quite well. We also have a statement directly from Epic which says over 20 Japanese UE4 games are in development for Switch. I don't think we can even list more than 10 Japanese UE4 games in general without bringing up FFVIIR.

Pleeeeaaaase please please gimme something Smash related.

a tournament for ARMS and nothing at all for Smash?? Smh. 😒😒

Why only games for 2017 won't they show something new? Major meh if so then.
Doesn't say anywhere it's ONLY 2017 games, just that the focus is on them. I'd bet there are a couple of 2018 and beyond reveals but not showing too much with the bulk of the presentation focussed on Gameplay from 2017 games.

I'm all for focusing on 2017 and Switch, but just announce new Metroid Prime for Switch even if it is 2020.
Or Pokemon Stars for Switch, I'll take that too.

Because it's using Unreal Engine 4 instead of Square's oddly complicated Luminous Engine.

Good luck waiting for that if you think it's as simple as being UE4 and they can scale it down to oblivion :P

Suffice to say I think it's best if SquareEnix focuses on making games tailored to Switch's strength. Octopath Traveler looks genius, they clearly understand what they have in Switch.

They're run on completely different engines and one is early in development so there would be much scaling, hahaha

Reggie has a better chance of winning in ARMS than in Smash because he can just beat the shit out of the champion with his brace-plated joycons.

Good luck waiting for that if you think it's as simple as being UE4 and they can scale it down to oblivion :P

Not even saying that it will be on the Switch, it's just that you're comparing FFVII Remake to a game that uses an entirely different, proprietary engine. That would at least give it a chance.

Your comparison is off. FFXV was made on an in-house engine (Luminous Pro) that scales very badly down from high end PCs (Tabta himself said that, and not in relation to the Switch, but in relation to the XB1 and to a lesser extent the PS4), while FFVII:R uses the Unreal Engine 4, which scales much better between different hardware and has native Switch support to boot. FFXV won't tell you anything useful about the feasibility of porting to Switch, although that of course doesn't mean porting FFVII:R or equivalent AAA games will be easy.
Well, it says mainly focused on 2017, but that doesn't rule out the possibility for early 2018 games.
Yeah, the comment you quoted was before the business wire press release was available (or at least before I became aware of it). I have added note about that in the original comment.

As expected. Almost every E3 Nintendo has teased with a future game or two down the road. Nintendo isn't gping to drop all megatons at E3. Thats what a Direct is. I expect at least one more mini Direct before E3. Nintendo isn't like Sony or MS anymoreat E3. They like to space out their megatons.

So the E3 Direct will only feature Switch games? That's what it implies to me at least. Also the 2017 thing is curious, wonder if that means no titles whatsoever for 2018 will be discussed? Seems unlikely in my opinion, unless they are planning to host a series of directs in the second half of the year to detail 2018.

Well, it says mainly focused on 2017, but that doesn't rule out the possibility for early 2018 games.

NoA's press release says "focus".

I think I'll be avoiding Nintendo E3 threads until mid-June.

Unless Nintendo in a 1st, 2nd and 3rd party capacity went ALL IN during E3 2017, it would probably be a good idea to stay out if Nintendo E3 threads completely.

Reggie statement about their E3 plans

Ah my fear was they would give Arms a lot of time in the video presentation even though we've seen so much and it sounds like their big tickets are gonna be the same big three we already know about. I'll be happy to see more Mario but I'm not going to buy Arms and I'm skeptical about Splatoon 2 in regards to the new payment system. Ah well.

Huh? This is the press release straight from NOA (Redmond Washington): http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20170511005489/en/Let%E2%80%99s-a-Go%21-Mario-Tournaments-Nintendo-Switch-Head

Note the third paragraph talking about the "focus on 2017 games"

Even Nintendo America's PR mentions the "focus on 2017 games". It's in the OP.

NoA's press release says "focus".

Didn't saw that one. I was referring mainly to E3.nintendo.com. That's good to know.

I don't want to set my expectations too high for the new Retro Studios game. I'm just really curious about what the heck they're working on. They've been quiet about their new game for years and every time we ask them about it, they pelt us with various images of BBQ.

Give us something this year Retro.

Considering they have an actual tournament in the days after the Showcase, I would assume at the very least they can exposit details on the stage. otherwise maybe 10 minutes top to explain a mode and reveal characters.
