Nintendo E3 plans detailed

I hope we get a new Donkey Kong game on Switch. Not for the salt, and not to spite Metroid fans. I just legimately want more Donkey Kong.

You and me, friend.

Give me Donkey Kong Country: Kremling Katastrophe featuring the return of K. Rool and the Kremlings, more returning animal buddies, and just for the heck of it, Lanky Kong as a playable character.

Finally then we can get K. Rool in Smash Bros.
but not before lanky obviously

*looks at Wii U, than looks at Switch*

I'm pretty sure you are wrong

I was being sarcastic lol.

Well look at it sales wise:

Metroid Prime on a ~20m Userbase: 2,8m Units
Metroid Prime 2 on the same Userbase 1,3m Units
Metroid Prime 3 on a 100m Userbase: 1,8m Units

The Franchise isn't selling well by Nintendos standards, now let's look at Donkey Kong:

DKCR on a 100m Userbase: 6,5m
DKCTF on a 12m Userbase: 1,6m

The game sold roughly the same on a failed console like Metroid Prime did on Nintendos best selling console in history...

A Switch DKCR might be able to reach ~3m and more units easily. A Switch Metroid Prime on the other hand... probably 2m tops.

I was just being sarcastic and playing along with the person I quoted. DKC is definitely a better selling series compared to Metroid.

Why are people expecting news on 2018 games?

What are we supposed to expect-them showing 2016 games?

Question what games do we have confirmed for the Switch that aren't coming out this year?

Just Fire Emblem Switch, at least for first-party stuff.

Probably more taking third-parties into account. Bloodstained, Namco has a few games coming "before March"...

Question what games do we have confirmed for the Switch that aren't coming out this year?

A new Shin Megami Tensei game, Fire Emblem, No More Heroes 3 and probably Project Octopath Traveller. All don't have a real name yet and only with the last have we seen any real gameplay. SMT will probably be at TGS instead of E3, Fire Emblem may be shown, NMH3 has barely even started development and I've no idea about Octopath.

Can someone check how many WiiU Games Nintendo released after the E3 and how many they presented(oh wait, it was only Zelda, right?).

That would make it easier for us to predict what there is to come. Nintendo definitely can output about 4-5 console games per year with ease.

Sure we have MK8DX and Breath of the Wild so far but both were probably ready prior the Switch launch even. Splatoon 2 doesn't look like they put so much effort into it(where's the 1080p?). Then there's Mario Odyssey and that's about it. We know Monolith is working on a ne Xenoblade already but other than that there are a lot of divisions of Nintendo missing. I kinda expect a pretty nice show, even though it is strange for them to only concentrate on 2017 if they aren't lying and will put in some 2018 hype trailer at the end...

They released Paper Mario Color Splash after E3 and they showed it off at E3.

DKCR3 would almost certainly sell much better than Tropical Freeze, but as with TF, it's another colorful family-friendly platformer, and Nintendo systems have the audience for those locked down anyway.

Retro's next game doesn't need to be Metroid Prime 4, or something dark, edgy, and M-rated, but it would ideally be something wholly distinct from Nintendo's Japanese output. They should be focusing on games that will broaden the audience for Switch, not games that appeal primarily to people who were going to get one in time for Mario anyway.

As far as I'm concerned, everything you have for the 12 months following e3 should be fair game to show at e3. That means showing your early 2018 stuff too.

Right, i forgot about that. So no new Paper Mario probably, maybe in 2018.

How about Samus landing on a huge alien planet uncovering it's secrets in third person? (BotW exploration style)

Sony and other 3rd parties have made it okay to show games super early. Lol it's a risky strategy that either pays off with hype or leads to a disaster.

Multi-year hype cycles are one of my least favorite things about this industry. I'm all for announcing games less than a year in advance of release.

No. 2017 games obviously

Sticking to this rule year by year would mean that only games that come out in the latter 6 months of the year would ever be shown at e3. That's not sensible.

I guarantee they'll show at least one or two 2018 games, whether by design or by delay.

Realistically DK has always outsold Metroid. Whether they make Metroid specifically or something similar, those types of games are probably more important to attracting additional buyers than another platformer would be.

That's true and luckily Nintendo knows that very well, given their track record, even though the WiiU was kind of an exception in that case but then again the whole system was an exception...

Huh? Nowhere does this say that the Spotlight video will "focus on Switch games". It says they will offer more details about Mario and other Switch games "with a focus on games launching in 2017". This is not that hard to understand- they're showing Switch games, mainly ones launching in 2017.

They also don't say they will only show Switch games. They did this before with the 3DS and WiiU.

You're not wrong which is why I said it's possible that there are 3DS titles that will be shown in the video, but it's not the same thing as saying "the focus" will be on 2017 titles. Saying that will be "the focus" indirectly says that there will be some titles NOT releasing in 2017.

Also, I honestly don't know- have they ever announced a Direct/Digital event where they only said one platform will be talked about, and then showed titles for another platform?

So the presentation itself will only have Switch games. 3DS games will get time at Treehouse Live though.

Also, 2017 games only?

That's the bit that makes me sad !
I need to see 2018 games Nintendo !!

Oh well, just release Virtual Console, Super Mario Odyssey and a new Wii U port (SSB or DKC) and I'll be fine until 2018.

I don't think so. Maybe in 2012 when they showed the Wii U they might've said it would only be or focused to Wii U for their E3 2012 presentation then showed a few 3DS games. I can't remember though.

The wording in the PR suggests there will indeed be 2018 games shown. Whenever Nintendo explicitly says "the focus" will be on something, that means there will be a few titles outside of that focus. That can only mean 2018 or beyond titles, unless they're somehow releasing some 2016 titles.

Really hoping they finally announce a new Metroid at the presentation. Got a good feeling about this one.

I do too. Probably a third party developed Metroid but I have a feeling we'll see Metroid in some way.

It might be interesting to look through their past PR to see if the wording is the same. Or it might be boring haha

Anyway, we can certainly expect 2017 Switch games, some 2018 Switch games, and 3DS games at the very least in the Treehouse segments.

I do think there's a strong likelihood of seeing Retro's newest project, whatever it is, it's probably obscenely well designed so I'll take it if it happens.

The way I see it, I'm excited to see what I'll be playing on my Switch for the remainder of the year but I don't mind getting a little taster of what lies beyond but that's a bonus.

Despite the indicator for only 2017 games, I feel like we had a similar notification for E3 2015, then we ended up with 2016 games being announced.

The only reason you have more small games on your Switch is because you want to play your Switch (rightfully so) and the console is starved for games.

Not sure you realize that it's actually a very good thing for Nintendo that people who own more than one console would see the Switch as a preferable platform to purchase any games on.

I tried looking and I couldn't find anything except this.

I don't see anything about Wii U being the focus. I think people assumed Wii U would be the focus since Nintendo was doing a 3DS presentation also later on.

Let me just say right now, There's certainly going to be no mention of any Wii U ports at E3. Nintendo typically doesn't announce ports at the biggest gaming event of the year, and if they do, they're mostly low key stealth announcements. So give it up people, we're not going to see Smash 4 at E3 this year, we'll see it in a later Nintendo Direct.

Animal Crossing Trailer. 2018.
Metroid Trailer. 2018.
Pikmin 4 Trailer. 2018.

Pokémon Stars something. Fall 2017.
Smash 4 Deluxe Announcement. August maybe.

New stuff for Super Mario Odyssey and Xenoblade 2.
Something about Arms and Splatoon 2 too just to keep attention high close to release.

A few smaller surprises sprinkled here and there.

Make it happen o/

I'm kind of freaked out by how detailed Mario's hair is in that promo image. Normally it's just a blob. Now there are STRANDS OF HAIR?

Madness.

When are we expecting them to showcase ARMS then? It comes out the week of E3 so it surely won't be a part of the showcase

They might have an amazing segment like the toy yoshi segment for yoshis wooly world (which took about 1/4th of that whole presentation
and made me loose my marbles

If there are new characters there's a good chance it gets revealed with a trailer. Could be good cross over marketing with Splatoon 2
(Assuming it's inkling)

Yeah, so honestly them just saying the Spotlight will feature Switch games does seem to suggest there will be zero 3DS games discussed there. Especially if there is no precedent for them announcing a Direct/Digital Event/Video presentation for only a single platform.

The thing is, Smash for Switch might not be treated like a port. They might treat it like a new game, the same way it was called Smash Bros. for Wii U and Smash Bros. for 3DS.

However they treat it, I think it's highly likely we see some bit of Smash for Switch information, seeing as how Nintendo is focusing on getting all of their big multiplayer franchises onto the Switch ASAP. Even if it's just a "one more thing" segment with a new character introduction (Inklings seem like the obvious choice).

Like I said, Nintendo usually doesn't announce ports in an E3 presentation, because why would you announce a port as big release at E3?. Ports are usually lower priority announcements saved for other events like Nintendo Direct, or if they do show up at E3, they're almost always stealth announcements. I mean, Nintendo didn't reveal Twilight Princess HD in their 2015 Digital Event for a reason.
