The White House has abandoned the idea of President Trump visiting FBI headquarters after being told he would not be greeted warmly, administration officials told NBC News.

Amid the continuing fallout over his decision to fire FBI Director James Comey, Trump was considering an appearance at the FBI's J Edgar Hoover Building in downtown Washington, DC. The White House publicly floated the idea as recently as Thursday morning.

Spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders, asked by a reporter whether such a visit was imminent, replied, I believe that it's very likely that takes place sometime in the next few days."

Sean Spicer is indeed a Naval War College grad, but I'm sure the administration would prefer to keep him away.

This administration is basically about to be shoved around by its own intelligence community. The idea that a president has to back away from visiting the FBI headquarters because they don't want his ass there is almost without precedent in my lifetime.

Trump's biggest mistake was probably not firing Comey, but using a shitty pretext that completely mischaracterized the whole of the FBI as the reason for Comey's firing. "We fired Comey because the FBI doesn't have confidence in him; this is what the FBI wanted" is just so colossally stupid; not only because it's not true, but because it attempts to shift blame/responsibility.

If they had simply said they wanted to choose the leadership at the FBI and take ownership of it; well it'd still be a horrific fuckup to most of the public but he probably wouldn't have made enemies with the entire bureau... lmao
