The FBI liked Trump. They liked Comey more, and Trump just impaled him right in front of them.
In one swift move, Trump turned a mostly loyal agency into an enemy. Dude can not stop making enemies.
Eh, I'm not in the FBI but to me it feels like peoples' loyalties are being overplayed here. I'm sure some people in the building are loyal to Comey and highly regard the man but I imagine most people, at the end of the day are somewhat indifferent. Maybe they like him, maybe not but I'm sure most people having worked up to the FBI have had enough bosses to not really have issues with one being canned, justly or unjust.
What I do think about the FBI is this, I think by and large most of them consider themselves professionals. I also don't know that most of the rank and file people care about the political theater surrounding their actions. The higher-ups can worry about the political ramifications surrounding any information but I'd imagine a great deal of people feel that what a voter takes with the information that an investigation exists is not truly their problem. Comey did mess up but he was in a tight spot. So long as he was truthful, in the end, did it matter to rank and file FBI officers how the voting populace perceived that news? I also think most consider themselves as law enforcement. They probably generally subscribe to the idea of if you're innocent let them do their job and they'll clear you, there's ultimately no need to fear of an investigation by them if you're not in the wrong. They also probably have more lame investigations into political dealings than we'll ever know to the point they don't care, heck many probably don't even know about most investigations and tune them out unless they're brought in on one, but this, this looks crooked as fuck. I can't imagine that people not on the investigation that previously were content with waiting for their colleagues to make their final judgement before having an opinion themselves are not now questioning the loyalty of the President. How could they not. The optics of this are terrible. It's not what the innocent should do. It's not what someone who should trust the FBI to make an impartial investigation and judgement should do. I imagine a lot of alarm bells in agents minds went off that day.
And it's not because it was Comey but it could have been anyone in that seat, liked or not by his peers is irrelevant. The President ousted someone overseeing an investigation into his ties with a foreign power. Loyalty to Comey's essentially a non-issue at that point.
And lastly really is just the weak ass way he was fired, which shows such a lack of leadership and respect for a human being that I'm surprised more people aren't upset. Which has been a recurring theme with this President which really should call into question his leadership abilities that he's supposedly so good at. I don't know nor care about Comey and I think that was a pitiful way to get fired.
