Nintendo E3 plans detailed

I don't think Splatoon had a negative initial reaction. It was during E3 2014, during a very positive time for Nintendo

It was when release date was coming up and Nintendo was starting to advertise it non-stop, that people thought Nintendo were kidding themselves that Splatoon would sell well.

Initial reactions from what I remember, was stuff like "This looks lame", "Should've been eShop", "this better not be $60", or rarely "I wanted a new mature IP for mature gamers like myself". It only started getting positive buzz once people went hands on with the game, and from there, good word of mouth, great marketing, and street-smart post-launch strategy helped change the game's perception. Nintendo is known for introducing stuff that seems weird or silly at first, until you actually play it.

So I was wondering...how will Nintendo show the Splatoon 2 and ARMS tournament? It's supposed to be on the days when Nintendo has their Treehouse too.

Are they going to have one feed for Treehouse and another for the tournaments or are the tournaments going to start after Treehouse finishes? I don't want Treehouse to be cut short the first two days for these tournaments.

Overall reception was positive, with a new IP of course some people are going to like it. No new IP is gonna get 100% positive initial reception

I mean, Metroid Prime had a bit of negative reaction as well because it wasn't 2D.

Trust me, I saw quite a few posts like that. Like I said, the game immediately got much better reception once people actually played it on the show floor.

I remember a few posts like that but the majority seemed to be overwhelmingly positive. Gonna need to see the receipts for maximum crow eating.

Splatoon in a general sense had pretty good reception, in fact it was so popular that tree house devoted another hour to it because of demand

Really
I remember myself included that I was so underwhelmed and thought "no one is gonna buy this crap"

Boy was I wrong> I have bloody tshirts and everything. Best game ever...lol

Here are a few examples from a variety of forums, including NeoGAF.

From IGN said:
Splatoon looks like a $15-$30 eshop game... and a multiplayer only shooter on a Nintendo console?...yeah, no one is gonna play that.

It'll bomb.

I'm expecting Wonderful 101 levels of bomb.

Of course, there were plenty of positive reactions as well. But Splatoon's debut was in general, rather mixed when it was first shown, it eventually started getting a following when it started to get positive buzz from the press and treehouse footage. At least, from what I've remembered seeing.

2017 Nintendo software, some surprise 3rd party ports and a Virtual Console blow out and I'll be more than happy.

If we don't get a VC announcement here I'm giving up hope it exists.

Yeah, I just looked at it too. Perhaps I was looking elsewhere and that led me to believe people were unsure of it. In any case, point is Nintendo titles usually don't get fully appreciated until people actually play them.
I think you might be remembering the thread that asked if Splatoon would become the next big Nintendo IP.

That's the one where a lot of people thought it would sell wonderful 101 level to maybe just 1 mil

I feel that some recent interview I read about Kimishima being very insistent with Nintendo projecting 10 million sales for the Switch on year one means that Pokémon Stars is delayed for 2018. I only say this because it seems like they are on track to hit that mark without having to announce it. If they announce a Smash Bros Deluxe and/or Mario Maker port for September alongside Odyssey and XenoBlade 2 for the holidays, why fire the Pokémon silver bullet in such a saturated market?

Am looking forward to more info on the 3DS games presented during the last Direct. I'm still excited to play Monster Hunter Stories, and maybe get the Amiibo if it comes over.

Pokemon would probably move 10 million units all by itself.

The negative reaction about Splatoon from GAFers appeared later than the E3 reveal. A couple of month before Splatoon's release, this famous thread appeared:

I could see a new Captain Falcon game being announced. It wouldn't be F-Zero just Captain Falcon in a new genre.

Or maybe a new Golden Sun @_@

Just show me a long story trailer for Xenoblade 2 and a treehouse with an overworld and battle footage to be dissected by youtube detectives and I will be good.

OP is banned and first post seems kinda negative, but didnt Splatoon come close to Mario Kart and Smash?
The only games that outsold it are: Mario Kart 8, New Super Mario Bros. U, Super Mario 3D World, Smash and NintendoLand. And only Mario Kart outsold it with more than one million copies.

Very close to Smash/Wii U, but not close to MK8. According to Nintendo's official page:
Splatoon: 4.80 M
Smash/Wii U: 5.20 M
MK8: 8.31 M

A game that is just rumors at this point can't be delayed.

And Kimishima insisting on 10 million units, is the same Kimishima that wanted to start shipping only 2 million Switches.

I think the negative react with Splatoon was on launches. It disappointed a lot of people due to the lack of content, which Nintendo released throughout the following months.

IGN originally gave it 7.9.

C'mon dude, stop making strawmen to make damage control. Nintendo can easily reveal their 2018 or even 2019 projects at E3, this "we'll only coverage this year's schedule" is just disappointing and unnecessary from Nintendo's part. It won't hurt them at all by revealing their future projects, actually it'll build prospects and expectations for the machine's future lifetime. It's silly to believe revealing titles for 2018/2019 will eclipse 2017's schedule as some believe (or they believe). Let's hope this is actually not true but nothing but speculation.

I was making fun of your assertion that this is their only place to announce titles beyond 2017.

They announced 2015 titles in a January 2013 Direct.

Moreover, every time they say "We're only covering (X)!", people Chicken Little until they reveal, wait, actually, they're actually covering more than that.

You don't need to change the subject to avoid embarrassment. You just need to stop saying embarrassing things.

Uh what? I'm no Nintendo-fan (just lurking these threads), but my general impression of these threads is that they're just filled with "BOARD THE HYPETRAIN", "GOAT right here", "We up in here fam", and so on. I rarely see anyone actually voicing any critique, and they're usually jumped on by everyone else in those rare cases.

I'm sure this is not exclusive to Nintendo-fans by the way.

You're literally describing a sony topic except they put Nintendo and Microsoft down. This is why I can't post in their topics. I go to their Sony E3 topic and I see them saying how much better Sony is than MS and Nintendo. How Sony has the greatest games and Nintendo can't touch them. It's gloat after gloat after gloat comments. So please. Critique is plenty in here. When people explain what the word focus means and explain to people what Nintendo said in the PR is not "hype train" or "goat right here".

Well, I did cover my back by stating "I'm sure this is not exclusive to Nintendo-fans". :)

Also, I was replying to his statement that initial reactions to Splatoon were overall negative, and that he felt they usually are when it comes to new Nintendo games.

Its fine. It gets a little agitating because lots of guys on here are spending posts explaining to people Nintendo said their E3 will focus on 2017 games. Lots of posts in here are "oh Nintendo is showing only 2017" when it clearly states in the OP they're focusing on 2017 now being exclusive to 2017 lol.

I don't think Captain Toad was received with negativity. I know it was in Super Mario 3D World before that, but it was a great surprise people enjoyed. Xenoblade Chronicles was received with positivity also.

Just realized going back through this thread that even Nirolak had to eat crow late in the thread since they didn't expect the game to go passed 3 mil.

To be fair with the game ending up right outside of 5 mil I think we all had to have a little crow one way or another.

Nice card! I'll do one as we get closer to E3. You don't think FFVIIR or KH3 gets announced for Switch?

Nah, I just don't think either is too likely, and if they were whether they get time in the Spotlight itself is debatable. Would be a nice surprise though.
