The Surge [Sci-fi Souls-like, PS4/XBO/PC] Out May 16th

Played about 4.5 hours tonight. It's got a few little hiccups here and there but it's been quite enjoyable so far. I'm sure I'm a broken record but the comparisons to the core gameplay style of Dark Souls is there but I'd say it lies more so with Bloodborne for how fast paced some of the action is.
The normal enemies can be absolutely brutal as well.
I'm just wondering one thing from anybody else that has this game: Do you have an issue where the particles and other effects seem to play at like... five fps for you while the rest runs absolutely perfect? It's beyond weird. My game is 120+FPS solid but the particles and effects are literally slideshows around me.

cohh is playing the game on stream right now. Looks neat, but it still seems to lack the tightness of an actual souls game. In particular, the character and enemies tend to look pretty floaty -- Their feet don't seem to plant in the ground as they run.

If you're a humble monthly subscriber, you can get it for $40.49 and add 5% (~$2) back to your humble wallet. That's how I'm doing it. I was gonna wait for a sale, but I really liked what I've seen so far in videos and I really enjoyed lords of the fallen.

That explains the lack of preload also on Xbox. Was already curious about that. Whats the reason for that for the publisher?

Probably not a valid reason but at least the game is only about 17 GB,which surprised me at first but understandable now after reading impressions...

Well, i'm done with this game.
Played until the third big area and had like 10 crashes in one hour.
Always near the same spot, this is unacceptable.
Before that i had like 3 random crashes over my playtime.
Too bad, game is otherwise quite good.

Is this a review copy? That sucks, hopefully a day 1 patch fixes that because... yeah 10 crashes/hour is really really bad (assuming no hyperbole).

Weird. Beat it no crashes, and am now watching someone at last boss and no crashes. PS4 as well.
Random bugs suck
Jim seems to like a good amount, more so than he expected. I'm curious to see how it does when reviews hit in a few days.
Hmm, interesting. So far I've been the only one I've seen streaming or otherwise that's seem to have it. I even did a clean install of the latest Nvidia drivers and validated the game files and it persisted afterwards. I also noticed that the game does not like when I change the refresh rate setting. It somehow got "stuck" at 50Hz in the options but the FPS counter still gave me 120+. It also removed the 144Hz option (or it was never there in the first place, I cannot remember), hence why it was seemingly locked to 120Hz all the time, even with v-sync off.
Hopefully it's something that can be fixed. I was just worried it was a hardware thing since I literally just got a 1080Ti earlier in the day and that was the first game I really gave it a go in. Though every other one of my games ran fine that I tested...

So the farther I get, the more the areas seem to bleed together. Game starts with a narrative but those beats are few and far between. Started off strong and nows sputtering out a bit. Combat is still fun and engaging. Bosses are cool. Im gonna guess this will get around 6 or 7s in the 10 point scale or rent rating.

Expecting similar scores, but somehow lords of the fallen actually got scores round that. So maybe higher?
Game is significantly better than that, its just lacking a meaningful amount of variety and content.

I don't think GMG does either, unless they include the tax in the final price.
All I know is that GMG/Paypal charged me exactly $38.24.
