Nintendo E3 plans detailed

Just a shame that when they did appear they either didn't have much charisma or had so much charisma that the translators couldn't keep up (looking at you, Suda).

RIP in Reese's Pieces Translator-san. But yes, it's like a lot of things: you need to have that perfect balance when it comes to picking those whose job it is to talk/promote a game. Somewhere between Suda's "YAAAAAAAH!!!!" and Sega's/EA's [insert vague PR talk here]/"Look at how excited I am guys...:| :| :| :|" Nobody likes suits spouting buzzwords left and right...but at the same time no one likes watching the complete opposite: people who aren't used to speaking to potentially millions of people, regardless if it's in a pre-recorded "spotlight/direct/presentation" or not. That said......it's hard to really say what works or doesn't but I think it's clear that the very presence of third-party "stuff" has become even more relevant in Nintendo's case, whatever/however they present.

Direct deliveries to show site (LACC) will begin Sunday, June 4, 8:00 AM PDT. Whether images of Nintendo's crates will begin to appear online at Sunday I can't say, I think NoA usually ships crates around Thursday/Friday the week before E3. But we should keep an eye out for crates and booth construction that week. Who knows, if we are nice enough maybe we'll get a repeat of this:

I think a 2017 focus is probably a good way of describing it. Presumably they'll have ARMS and splatoon 2 since they come out soon afterwards as well as new trailers for: Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, FE Warriors should keep the show pretty busy. Even rumored titles like Rabbids and Stars are slated for this year. That's 7 titles to cover from Nintendo alone. Though I can see some 2018 surprises as well

Guys don't forget who was it on here that said something big was going to be announced at Nintendos event from a third party that "would be for the archives on Neogaf" is what I believe he said.

I think it was Oregen? and another time he was asking how people would feel about FFVIIR on the Switch.

I think FFVIIR is getting announced for the Switch at Nintendo Spotlight. Damn I can't wait because FFVII is one of childhood games and one of my most favorite games of all time. I just played it on Steam a few months ago.

I wouldn't get your hopes up. We all know he meant Monopoly 2 instead.

But seriously, whilst I am doubtful it would definitely be incredible to see for both the GAF reaction and the historical importance.

I was like weirdly excited for Monopoly lol.

Anyways, we know how lots of Gaf will react. Look how they were reacting when we were toying with the notion that this is possible 😂 .

Also, I watched a PlayerEssence video and he said Distify said on twitter he heard FFVIIR was coming to Switch. I think that's the same Distify who posts on here and idk if he's ever talked about rumors before.

I'm not bothered by the "focus on 2017 games." For one, there are still games for 2017 that are unannounced and also, before the last direct Nintendo said it would "focus on Splatoon 2 and Arms" and that direct was full of 3ds and Switch game announcements. Nintendo has been really on point since the Switch reveal. I expect that to continue.

Yeah someone started a thread here about it and Dystify himself said that it was way too premature to start a thread. Then it got locked.

This is gonna be Metroid's year. I can feel it.

I feel pretty confident that there will be a Metroid announcement but I also feel pretty sure that it won't be what people are looking for. So watch out for that monkey paw.

Long as it isn't Federation Force, Blast Ball, or Hunters, I'm down/open minded.

Good Metroid is going to be a miracle if/when it happens. That just is the way the series is with Nintendo (and mostly has been since the late 90s-early 2000s restructuring).

Metroid Prime was such a miracle.

It could happen again, perhaps, but it is always probably best to not expect it to happen.

Fils-Aime reiterated Nintendo is aware of conversations happening around both the Metroid franchise and Mother 3, and said "let's see where we are a year from now."

Pfft, zero mission was only 2004. And prime 3 isn't that bad.

Hmm I see. I feel very confident to see Metroid. Idk do people think I'm being too optimistic. I just feel like Kimishima wants to go hard with E3 also. I love everything Nintendo has done with the Switch with spacing of games to the marketing.

I bet it's either a very small scale 2D Metroid (which would actually be fine) or something similar to Hunters.

And there may actually be two Metroid games in the works but lets not get greedy.

So if you believe we see a 2D Metroid for example at E3, then you believe Retro isn't working on a Metroid game?

This is gonna be Metroid's year. I can feel it.

Based on nothing but gut feeling I'm predicting that there is a new 2D Metroid (but with 3D graphics, think the newer DKC-games) in development for something like late 2018 or early 2019, but we won't hear about it this E3.

EDIT: And either developed by Next Level Games, or (this is a long shot) in collaboration with an indie studio.

(This wasn't addressed to me) I don't think they are, no. I also think this From Software Metroid game people wanted won't happen either.

I just don't think Nintendo sees Metroid as being a huge franchise, so even if it is shown that doesn't necessarily mean they are acting like it's one of the big guns.

However I do feel like this E3 might be when everyone will see the benefits of the combined output, but I'm not counting on that. I've been disappointed by high E3 expectations in the past.

So if you believe we see a 2D Metroid for example at E3, then you believe Retro isn't working on a Metroid game?

Yeah I believe there is some truth to that UK studio/Climax Studios rumor, while it may very well not be Climax themselves. So I expect some smaller scale Metroid title from an outside developer, no idea if it'll be 2D or 3D but the rumor seems to be that it began life as a 3DS title, so I'm not expecting too much.

(This wasn't addressed to me) I don't think they are, no. I also think this From Software Metroid game people wanted won't happen either.

I was originally on the Fromsoft Metroid train but the more I thought about it I realized the only thing that From could bring to a Metroid game is the excellent interconnecting 3D Metroidvania style map we saw in Dark Souls 1. I don't know if they could do good Metroid combat mechanics or good traversal mechanics.

I don't know if they could do good Metroid combat mechanics or good traversal mechanics.

The funny thing about that is that Fromsoft never really did that again aside for some minor connecting paths in Bloodborne. There are individual levels that are well connected and wholesome in themselves but Dark 1 was the only game to reach out for what made Metroid's world design ethos the way it was. Makes me feel like that was just a coincidence rather than just planned out as an intended progression from Demon's Souls.

In truth I just want to see a metroid by Retro because they're literally one of the most talented developers in the world and Tropical Freeze was unbelievable in how many ideas it had and how tightly it presented them. Variety is the spice of life, and I would like to see just how far the team could go.

Pfft, zero mission was only 2004. And prime 3 isn't that bad.

I think Retro doing Metroid at all and doing it right was the miracle. That's what I meant.

Retro doing Metroid a) went over Sakamoto, b) involved Miyamoto, c) involved Tanabe who they wanted to send west for other reasons, d) involved an unproven team doing Metroid, and e) was an unexpected success.

Prime 3 is still part of that miracle.

And the moment Retro stopped being the Metroid team, Metroid was again team-less, unlike your Zeldas and your Marios.

...

The thing with the 90s-2000s is that you had a lot of SM staff retirement and die-off and then that R&D team became SPD instead of EAD, a development house with less staff and more involved with finding other teams to do things. Metroid lost its development house. Sakamoto himself became more interested in other things. Etc.

We're now at a point where neither of the Metroid producers seem much interested in Metroid as the die-hard fans see it and there is no core development house making the games.

A new Metroid is going to be from a surprising source and will probably take a surprising form, for ill or for good to be determined.

I'd like to see a 2D Metroid, not to play it, because it's not my type of game, but to see more 2D games with refined graphics.
Some series
(tales of)
should really try to go back to 2D.

I have the feeling Monolith soft won't have only Xenoblade 2 out there, whether it's a port from another team or whatever, just more.

So for 2017 Nintendo hast to fill the last five months with software.

We know about:
Mario
FE Warriors
Xenoblade 2

Rumored:
Mario x Rabbids
Pokemon Stars

It will be interesting to see how much they plan to strengthen the rest of the year. Something like a Smash port would go over well. This is ignoring third party stuff though

I imagine we will be seeing VC games and some 2018 stuff as well. Animal Crossing and Retro's game alongside Fire Emblem would be a strong trio.

I think we're gonna see a number of big 3rd party ports announced at E3. In the past this has been how big 3rd party publishers have tested the waters on Nintendo hardware. I don't think the Switch is gonna get major support like the latest COD or the next Red Dead or GTA. But similar to the port of Skyrim (remastered?), I could see games like FF XII Remastered coming to the Switch.

I think you've considered basically everything I'd think of when it comes to Switch's 2H 2017. The only thing I'd add is that Nintendo will likely use their DLC plans as part of their mindshare strategy. We'll see the big content drop for Zelda happen, and I think it's also very likely that we'll be seeing consistent DLC drops from both ARMS and Splatoon 2 through at least the end of this year. These releases aren't significant compared to a new title, but I do think potential biweekly activity from both ARMS and Splatoon 2 would make Nintendo seem busy and present this holiday season a small amount on their own.

Personally I'd love to see another stab at Mp Metroid.

Visual Style based on MP3, 4 Player Coop Campaign, 4v4 competitive online with a few good modes, speed and progression similar to Cod.

I still believe the basic idea of FF is good, but it needs a much better execution.

E3 Bear bringing all the hybrid goodies this year!

I think there will be some surprise third party ports that will help fill out the rest of the year (akin to the Payday 2 announcement from the last Direct). Pokemon and Mario x Rabbids are probably likely to make an appearance and release at the end of the year. And VC has historically launched 2-3 months after a console launch, so I bet we'll see something about that at E3 too.

I don't think Smash or Retro's project will get here until early 2018, but considering we already have Mario, Xenoblade 2, FE Warriors, and possibly Pokemon and Mario x Rabbids, I think 2017 is pretty well filled out with games. I'd be more than happy with that release schedule, as long as we keep getting the steady stream of smaller games in between, like we have been.

Does anyone think Marios hat in Odyssey will talk like with voice acting lol.

I know Sunshine had some voice acting, but I can't recall how much it had.

Hope that's not true. FFVII as a major third party announcement in 2017 would be bad.

Not only is it a remake of a badly aged game, (unless they completely redo the writing), it's also better on other platforms and probably will come out by the time we are looking forward to Switch's sucessor.

That would be the very definition of a major third party E3 announcement.

My predications for the E3 Spotlight

- Spotlight opens with Super Smash Bros Deluxe coming October alongside the new paid for online (which won't get detailed yet)
- Splatoon 2 single player details, new multiplayer mode shown along with a new beta test coming end of June
- FE: Warriors gameplay, dated for September release
- Xenoblade trailer, coming December
- Indie titles showcase, couple new announcements including Owlboy
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC announced, first pack coming end of 2017
- Pikmin 4 announced with trailer, coming 2017 but no exact date given
- Donkey Kong Country Returns 3 from Retro announced, Kremlins return coming early 2018
- Super Mario Maker Deluxe announced, coming in early 2018
- New 2D Metroid announced, coming early 2018
- Super Mario Odyssey blowout, coming late November 2017
- One more thing....Retro is working on a second title.....Eternal Darkness, no date given

I think the new virtual console stuff will be revealled when they detail the new online service via a Direct sometime at the end of summer

If they ever did a new 2D Mario they should completely revamp the aesthetic and overall direction of it. Super Mario Odyssey looks so fresh with its creative world design and great-looking enemies and NPCs and I wish the 2D games would follow in those footsteps. I think it'd probably be a while off; there's Odyssey as the next big thing, and then I'd put my money on Mario Maker 2 happening maybe next year.

Kind of a tangent into the series as a whole now, but the Koopalings coming back in NSMBWii and Dry Bowser appearing in NSMB DS were so cool the first time around, but at this point it's kind of a pain how almost every game, even the spinoffs, structures themselves around them. It's frustrating to me how the 3D Mario games and Mario Kart get to be so creative and unique and really breathe live into the Mario world when all the spinoffs have become so sterile. Like only EPD are allowed to do cool things with the IP. Games like Ultra Smash, Paper Jam, and Colour Splash were received pretty lukewarmly so hopefully that kinda gives them the hint.

All seem pretty possible aside from Smash. I don't think Nintendo is gonna show that card now with ARMS coming so soon (same goes for Pokken too). Smash can be slid in to any Direct throughout the year and would still get the same amount of attention.
