NYT: Comey Memo Says Trump Asked Him to End Flynn Investigation

Jesus. What's crazy is this detail is likely going to get buried in the rubble here, when it probably should be one of the bigger anchors tied to his ankles.

He was actually talking to the FBI director about figuring out how to jail the press.
Dude really wants to be Putin or Erdogan

At this point, I have no idea WHY McConnell and Ryan wouldn't want to round up the republicans to start looking at impeachment. I don't see how any of their agenda gets done with him in office.
I have a feeling what the FBI are finding goes far beyond just Trump.

Just my thinking on why they haven't yet.

I don't know wtf the Senate is waiting for. If the republicans impeach and Trump gets removed then theyll have their wet dream in the traditional conservative mold take the presidency.

That's what I said. Just because it's legal doesn't mean it isn't impeachable.

Don't you need to levy an actual charge for an impeachment? I can't think of any impeachment in history that hasn't had an associated charge.

That's why all this stuff about Comey is way more useful for advancing a legal case against Trump than the stuff about spilling classified secrets.

The stuff about sharing classified secrets is helpful for something else, though: building a narrative about currying favor with Russians.

Trump doesn't strike me as someone that would selflessly try to save Flynn's career for no reason.

Was/is the Russian investigation getting too close to home perhaps?

They're afraid of 2018 and 2020. They impeach Trump, then those voters won't vote or vote democrat to get them out of their seats.

Y'all screaming "this is it, we got him" seem to be forgetting the unrelenting torrent of inexcusable shit this incompetent failure of a man has been releasing on the world the last twelve fucking months that also didn't result in this clown slowing down.

Time for President Pence and Vice President Ryan.

Ryan wouldn't become Vice President. Succession doesn't work like that.

Pence, if he became President, would nominate a new candidate for VP and then they'd have to go through Senate confirmation hearings.

Ryan only changes position if he's nominated (ain't happening) or if both Trump and Pence are removed, at which point he become President.

If Trump goes, Pence goes too. I don't know why people don't see that. He's wrapped up in this too and if Trump is pushed out he's tangled with him. Unless you mean Ryan.

Perhaps. But Trump also wasn't looking for a major shakeup within 20 days of his new administration. An investigation into Flynn is a major distraction to his agenda regardless of the guilt.

Nice, I believe it, but unless it's part of the investigation or congress subpoena's it, they won't act on it. Would have the be released for the public I see for it to have an effect.

inb4 hurr "nothing will happen" tools jump in.

edit:
Nah, that isn't how this works. Sorry.

Ummm.... Correct me if I'm wrong but burden is always on the accuser, yes? So yes, Burr is correct. Though he could just subpoena FBI for the memo I believe.

You guys can't be that shocked at that reporter bit if you paid attention to his campaign stuff. He constantly hinted at stuff like that. Not trying to say it's less terrifying, but it's not remotely something new or shocking. I'm not concerned about it though, at least not now. He'd have to lock up the whole fucking press outside a few far right ones, and tangle with the courts which he hasn't had good luck with at all. That ship has sailed, at least for now.

Truth. Add this to all the times he floated the idea of changing libel laws. He is a bully who has to get his way, and he has always used his wealth to do so. Now that he has the power of the presidency I don't doubt that he would love to be able to just lock up anybody who disagrees with him.

Imagine Anthony from the It's A Good Life episode of the Twilight Zone - that is Trump. He would wish everyone into the cornfield who crosses him if he could. Thankfully, he has both the attitude and intelligence of a 5 year old.

Stop asking this. This is yet another straw falling on the camel's back.

When that back is broken, you'll know.

Yeah, the main problem isn't that it's worthy of possible impeachment. The issue is that Congress actually has to do something about it. When is the breaking point for them? It's starting to turn, but I don't we're there yet. I imagine that this story will play a pivotal part in it all, though.

It's not a criminal case in a court. It's a vote.

Oooo please let Ryan be implicated in this. Please, please, please.

On a very basic level, how is Trump dumb enough to oust Comey and NOT think that THIS encounter wouldn't come back to bite him? That'd be the last guy I'd want to piss off, if he has that over my head. Master dealmaker, indeed....

Maybe he thinks he's really immune from justice/above the law.

Anyway, between this and the Russian investigation, it'd be unbelievable if he makes it to the end of his term without SOMETHING coming out to bring him down. Just way too much out there.

So the FBI can bring up obstruction of justice charges on their own right?

If that happens there is no way McConnell and Ryan can just sit there and not act right?

I'm beginning to think it may go beyond the white house and into the gop itself...

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if we found out that some congressmen were implicated.

At this point I seriously think McConnell might be. He managed to fast track his wife to an appointed position and besides Devin Nunes has been the most biggest deflector about moving ahead with more resources into Trump and his corruption. It would also explain why so many senators are too afraid to buck the trends, they might need to unseat their senate leader in order for anything to get done which in itself would be devastating for their ability to pass legislature.

What a shit show. You could see this shit from miles and yet people voted for this crooked motherfucker. Everyone who voted ford this turd shouldn't be allow to vote ever again.

Alone in the Oval Office, Mr. Trump began the discussion by condemning leaks to the news media, saying that Mr. Comey should consider putting reporters in prison for publishing classified information, according to one of Mr. Comey’s associates.
