Donald Trump Jr., you aren't that bright are you?

This story seems kind of meh compared to the other stuff that's come out recently, to be honest. Trump only made money indirectly (through licensing fees), and the transactions occurred years before he decided to run for office. Does it show ties to Russia that Trump claims don't exist? Absolutely. Is it a smoking gun for any kind of conflict of interest or quid pro quo? Not really.

Still, the 'drip drip drip' from the media and IC is thoroughly entertaining to watch, even if Congress is trying their hardest to sweep this administration's countless sins under the rug.

I don't see how anyone can support the GOP unless you are fine with them selling out the country in order to get tax cuts.

This is pathetic and disgusting.
Tax cuts (ie I worked hard and want to keep my hard-earned money) + democrats/liberals want to destroy America and the Constitution so real patriots/American vote Republican

Wait, the speech he's going to give somewhere in the Middle East? Oh lordy... I don't know the schedule off the top of my head, but I hope he goes to Israel first, gives some horrific speech Miller wrote, then gets snubbed and told not to come by the other countries.

he is giving it in saudi arabia :lol

gonna get hung for blasphemy before he leaves

Ryan and the turtle must be beyond pissed at Amash for breaking ranks. Having an actual GOP congressman talking impeachment gives Democrats a real talking point on this.

Say what you will of his views, Amash actually cares about this country unlike the rest of these fucks.

I don't like the characterization of Miller as some kind of dumb college dropout (not that dropping out from college means that you are dumb anyway). He may not be politically savvy and he's clearly very shortsighted, but he's also smart enough to be a good propagandist. He'll pick his words well enough.

His words and speech shall not be questioned

Yeah I'm not sure the guy outspoken about "too many colored people in my school" is gonna write a great nuanced speech for another culture...but nonetheless popcorn.gif

The sad thing is none of this will really result in much. I feel like the current POTUS has set the bar so low this type of behavior is expected.

This is exactly my feeling. I mean, Trump has gotten away with stuff that would kill a few political careers, so I kinda feel this will become buried as soon as the next scandal comes around. Which at this rate seems like it will be before the weekend.

This goes beyond the usual 'they suck and they don't care about the country, only themselves' narrative.

They're fucked if this brings down Trump. For a party that's always about self-preservation, they're seemingly not very good at it.
This is overly optimistic, imo. Republicans have realized that no matter how much absurdly evil and traitorous bullshit they pull, they're still one of only two parties. Half the country views democrats as worse than any foreign adversaries anyway. If they just stay the course, no matter how choppy it looks, they'll still get a solid 45% of voters. If they turn on Trump and alienate their base, that's what really scares them. And I think they're right.

They won't turn on him. The leaks will keep dropping but republicans will refuse to act on anything and half the country will forever view this whole Russian mess as a conspiracy cooked up by bitter liberals. They'll lose some seats in 2018, but still have majorities. They'll lose even more in 2020, possibly the house, Senate, and presidency. Then they'll obstruct for for four years, probably win back the house in 2022, and in 2024 run some new "moderate" who is actually super conservative by the Bush era standards, and the media will fall over themselves praising the reasonable and reformed GOP, pushing a horse race narrative, and giving them another shot at total power, which they may get.

This country is so fucked. I'm more worried about someone more competent than Trump in the future exploiting the massive faults in our checks and balances that Trump had so clearly demonstrated.

Amash proves, once again, to be literally the only ideologically consistent Republican. I may find his views in general to be repulsive most of the time, but they appear to be genuine. What a low bar.

Trump has been losing GOP support pretty steadily for a few months now. His white working class voting block is also being chipped away at. I don't think the GOP is immune to voter pressure and they certainly aren't immune to losing elections. And I think thinking like that actually enables them, because defeatist attitudes breed more defeatists which leads to nobody voting because what's the point, we're all going to lose anyway. Which is a terrible way to think and to enthuse voters to vote for you.

Also the amount of die hard Republicans isn't 45%, it's closer to 30%.

Well, for starters, half the country do not identify as dyed in the wool Republicans... Yes, the nightly Hannity viewers do, and they're lost forever. But most of the country doesn't fall into that category. Shit, half the country didn't even fucking bother to vote in November. Defending someone who is probably guilty of treason isn't going to be a good look and may actually get people motivated to get off their ass and vote. We'll have to see.

We are 4 months in. It is plain as day that Trump is a sinking ship. Any GOP lawmaker who stands with him is risking their re-election, as as we know all they care about is re-election.

I think the best thing the GOP can do now is break ties with Trump, and go along with the impeachment and pushing for the removal from office. At that point, they will still have the presidency but can rally behind a president who probably will not cause a daily media shitstorm and embarass the nation internationally. It's the only way they can save face at this point, because who the fuck knows what is going to happen in another 4 months.

While I disagree that things are so black and white politically, I do have the same worries about whoever comes after Trump. He, his admin, and the GOP revealed a lot of flaws, issues, and loopholes in our system, and exactly what not to do if you want to exploit them. And any discussion by Democrats to try and change things would just be obstructed by Republicans and dismissed as left vs right, the other side being unfair, etc.

I think it's on the Democrats, in their almost guaranteed period of control (first of Congress, later of the White House) from 2018-2022, to fix those flaws.

From the BBC:

The view from Moscow - Steve Rosenberg

You can't help feeling that the Kremlin is loving this. As the US administration - and the US superpower - staggers from one crisis to the next, Russia is watching and revelling in a political rival tearing itself apart.
President Putin's comments today on America were full of sarcasm and patronising put-downs. "Those spreading anti-Russian slogans either don't understand what harm they are inflicting on their own country, in which case they are simply stupid... or they are dangerous and dishonest," he said.

The Russian president said was ready to provide the US Congress with a transcript of Foreign Minister Lavrov's conversation with President Trump. But that was surely just another dig at America. He will know that it will take more than a transcript on Kremlin-headed notepaper to make this crisis go away.
