The official line denying that this conversation took place, has been dropped in favor of 'He was just joking'?

Making this the third time in a week, that the first official line out of the White House Press office has been confirmed as bullshit by the White House.

Is that a fair assessment, or are people saying he was joking in a hypothetical 'Well if he said this, maybe he was joking' kind of way.

Obviously this joke was far too funny for everyone else in the meeting to hear. They would have laughed so hard that their hearts exploded. So when he asked everyone else to leave the oval office before telling Comey this joke, he did so for humanitarian reasons.

He asked him to casually stand in justice's general vicinity and path of travel, if he slowed it down maybe that wouldn't be a bad thing, but he never asked him to obstruct justice if justice tried to walk past him. That's all.
