I'm still astounded by this. When did Americans, especially Republicans, come to hate freedom so much? They don't want people to have different religions, skin color, sexual orientation, control over their choice to have a child or not, the press to report on the government, or people to even have an easy time getting the required credentials and locations to vote. How does a country that has freedom as one of its watch words become so zealously anti-freedom and not realize it?

It's hard to accept that America could be like that when everything you're taught - the revolution and founding, the Constitution, lessons on checks and balances, taught how important liberty and freedom is - screams otherwise. And it makes it easy to dismiss because you're taught checks and balances would always prevent something like that from happening
