NYT: Comey Memo Says Trump Asked Him to End Flynn Investigation

So what is the possible outcome of all of this?

If it all stopped here, I would think the least that would happen would be a series of independent inquiries into the Russia campaign stuff, the Flynn debacle and the intelligence gaffe in the Oval Office from last week.

With that said- there's little to no reason to believe it's going to stop here. This administration can't seem to fuck up fast enough anymore.

I'm honestly starting to think this is going to keep snowballing to the point that Repubs can no longer side with the administration for their own sake, at which point Trump will likely step aside. He doesn't strike me as the "in it for the long-haul" type when things are going this badly.

The man is so incompetent he can't even hire someone who can do the basic necessities of their position.

This is our president.

So he is incompetent as National security as well. Oh good Lord what a shit show. I wonder why do these people put up with Trump? Can't they just quite?

God these hyperbole kneejerk comments are embarrassing :D

Even McMaster's isn't read in on every piece of intel out there so it's very possible he wasn't read in on all aspects of intel Trump shared, hence why he didn't find sharing alarming. That hardly makes him incompetent for his job, especially when looking at his career.

Working for Trump is maybe biggest threat for McMaster's career and credibility, but hyperbolekneejerk like above is just embarrassing.

LOL. Comey has nothing. He's just a big dumb troll wanting to stay relevant that both parties wanted gone long ago.

"the FBI director has no info about a president, especially one that was under investigation by the FBI and fired him for it"

He was rolled out SPECIFICALLY to talk about this issue. He should have been "read" on the intel before the fucking press conference that was talking specifically about this intel.

There is no good way to spin this.

Uhh and how do you figure that

How do you figure he does? No facts no nothing except for speculation. You really think if the FBI and CIA knew that Trump and Russia were in bed together that Trump wouldn't have already been squashed? It wouldn't be a wait and see approach. It would be instantly handled. Can you even fathom if that was true?

Well, good thing your dumbass godlord Trump decided to play himself by creating obstruction of justice claims out of a nothing case. What a brilliant tactician.

This isn't how it works. Bringing down someone as high profile as the president of the united states takes years to put a rock solid case. There are no do-overs or mistakes. It needs to be an air tight case, even if there is ample, obvious evidence.

It absolutely would be and should be a wait and see approach. Only inexperienced political numbskulls like Trump rush into something without a clear case, all the facts, and all the paperwork compiled and ready to go.

Wow. On a sidenote I get why they can't speak for themselves but I'm getting fatigue from "a source close to the person blah blah"

Citing an unnamed U.S. official with direct knowledge of the matter, NBC reported that McMaster “is not steeped in counterterrorism” and thus was not immediately aware of the importance of the information Trump gave to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

Because grounds for indicting a POTUS isn't something that happens "immediately". Did they "immediately" move to impeach Nixon or did they build a case first?

Stop watching Law and Order or whatever fucking show has you believing that is how the law works IRL.

Can you even fathom if that was true?

Easily. You only have to look at Comey's desire to appear apolitical and the royal fuck-up that achieved the exact opposite re: Clinton to see how ass-covering, indecision, and buck-passing can make it happen.

Conversations with some officials who have briefed Trump and others who are aware of how he absorbs information portray a president with a short attention span.

He likes single-page memos and visual aids like maps, charts, graphs and photos.

National Security Council officials have strategically included Trump's name in "as many paragraphs as we can because he keeps reading if he's mentioned," according to one source, who relayed conversations he had with NSC officials.

Trump likes to look at a map of the country involved when he learns about a topic.

"He likes to visualize things," said a senior administration official. "The guy's a builder. He has spent his whole life looking at architectural renderings and floor plans."

I feel like these same people would have NEVER given Obama that benefit of the doubt. Trump just doesn't seem smart.

law and order has their guy within the hour EVERY TIME. this fbi is a JOKE.

Will be a big event I think.

It will be important but it will be a repeat of Sally Yates'

"I can't speak to details of an ongoing investigation"

One difference is that a lot of his no comments and nos, will have more import and meaning this time.

"to the best of your knowledge, Did Trump actually use the n word in a Russian pee pee tape?"

"I can't comment on ongoing investigations."

I think it'll be interesting due to the memos mainly.

Will be a big event I think.

But man at the current pacing of the world next wednesday seems a lifetime away

Won't the Republicans just ask him stupid questions over and over again that try to make Trump not look bad and rather someone or something else. The last one was so annoying except one Democrat guy.

I think it'll be interesting due to the memos mainly.

Not if the memos are connected to subjects of an ongoing investigation - but you're right in that memo questions will be just as important as non-answers.

Effectively if we get nothing else out of this it may be clearer that Trump is or is not just a hapless patsy, and is or isn't directly colluding or profiting.

Seriously.

Remember the big takedown of all those FIFA officals a while back? That case had been an ongoing investigation for over ten years before culminating in the raid at FIFA HQ.
