NYT: Comey Memo Says Trump Asked Him to End Flynn Investigation

Are these the same polls that said Hillary would win something something

I know you aren't making this argument yourself, but to answer which polls these are, I'm going off the real clear politics average when I say he's at the highest disapproval rating yet, and that he has hit a new high every day for the last four days.

They use a rolling average if I remember right, so his actual disapproval rating is most likely even higher right now than what they are showing.

I mean, he's clearly Darth Vader, right? Mostly-good intentions but bad decisions put him in a position where the best choice he thought he had was to help put a monster in charge of a republic. He served the new order as something like the head of counter-terrorism/intelligence. He wasn't happy with how things had unfolded but didn't really see a way out. Now he's fired but Trump is falling into the reactor. Also he's very tall.

Huh, also a good equivalent, I agree.

I just hope his redemption arc isn't over nearly as fast

Pessimism was rewarded on November 8. Pessimism was rewarded in 2014, when in 2013 the consensus was that voters would punish Republicans for the government shutdown. Pessimism has been repeatedly rewarded when Republicans are the opposition, and it's going to take a lot to shove that pessimism aside.

And I don't think there's anything wrong with that, as long as you don't let pessimism force you to the sidelines. Be active, be engaged, vote. Beyond that, alright, be pessimistic, too.

Pessimism wasn't rewarded on November 8. The people saying "Trump is going to win because nothing good ever happens anymore" were not validated. The people saying "Trump totally has a chance, we shouldn't underestimate him, polling isn't that steady" were validated. Those people were not pessimistic, they were being realistic. They were being reasonable. They weren't ignoring data to reinforce their opinions.

If you think nothing will happen, that's fine. But please don't rant and rave at people who would like to discuss the issue. If you don't, go somewhere else.

Why does it feel at this point all the "NOTHING WILL HAPPEN!" kiddies actually want nothing to happen just so they won't have to man up and admit they were wrong?

I will admit to being wrong, the day that I am actually wrong.

Unlike most of the people who didn't take the threat of Donald Trump and his populist, neonazi friends seriously.

There's some legitimate worry about getting built up with excitement and then being let down. It's a worse feeling than having no expectation at all. There's some who look at it with the view that you mention, but fuck...imagine getting built up and excited for shit like Christmas morning only to get some fucking socks when you were 10. Like seeing the girl/guy of your dreams see them go kiss someone else.

I want this so bad I can taste it, and I have to keep reminding myself to stay calm. I'm lucky that I'm not directly impacted by any of these policy changes to this point. If someone was trans, gay, sick...yeah, I feel some sympathy and empathy for people trying to play things down so their world isn't shattered once again.

If people are trolling over it? Have at it though.

I think I'm missing something...

Hitman the user here has a very weird strong fetish for Taylor and Mensch.

You're directing this towards the wrong group of people. Yes, there are people who didn't take the threat of Trump seriously and stayed home. But I'd wager a good portion of the people in this thread are not among that category, if American.

I'm still amazed that this is real life. Going "waahhh it's too long I don't wanna read it" will get you laughed at in elementary school and probably failed in high school. It would get you fired from any job in short order.

But no, now the fucking president of the US is doing it and the fucking leaders of major countries have to cater to him.

Do we just need a live #trumpnews thread?

It's hard to keep up. I tag one thread and refresh/follow it. Then it sort of dies and I realize everyone moved to the new scandal thread I hadn't even known was unfolding yet....even though it is already 15 pages long. Trump's Scandal of the Day |OT|

Who cares? I can't get over the vocal posters that get upset about people being skeptical. Let them, it isn't hurting anyone. I hope everyday that something happens but I certainly Don't expect republicans to man up and do anything about any of this.

Asked a longtime House GOP staffer where things are headed. "This is like Reservoir Dogs. Everyone ends up dead on the floor."

Well, that's not going to happen for a little while.

In the meantime, instead of droning on and ON about how "WE'RE IN DE ORWEEELIAN ERA OF DA BRAAAV NEEEW WUUUURLD", if you're unhappy with how things are, try getting active and working towards the results!

Our success will only be found if people stop spreading this kind of tone around. You're trying to tell people to give up and accept that the fight we're fighting is one we're automatically destined to lose.

No victory will ever come for us with that kind of mindset.

Do we just need a live #trumpnews thread?

I'd prefer it at this point, to be honest.

Screw that, these already turn into a long meandering thread about all sorts of mini aftershocks from each event which can be tough to follow, a single thread is just a way of minimizing the importance of this imo. It's a lot easier to muddy the waters when it's impossible for people to grasp it all.

I don't know that OT is as full of it as gaming, but we've got a lot of younger relatively impressionable people at Gaf, and I don't think it helps to leave them in a bubble where trump is just a little blip on the radar. Just my 2 cents obviously.

It's not skepticism, they're being aggressive in letting everyone know just how ignorant they are by insisting "nothing will happen", happily ignoring that we're right in the middle of possibly the biggest scandal in US presidential history. "Nothing will happen" 4 months into the presidency? No shit, "nothing happened" to Nixon until TWO YEARS later. There's no precedent that stipulates a corrupt president should be out by 4 months.

It's little more than glorified thread whining, and doesn't advance discussion in any meaningful way. It's just the same people copy-pasting the same posts over and over on different threads.
