Destiny 2 Reveal Livestream [Over]

So what if you have two players who want to play a raid?

Do you make a clan of two players and then use the raid matchmaking for solo players?

I think I saw a screen in the clans section of the presentation where you say you are a group looking for people to join you, or you are a group looking to join others.

So you and your friend could get 4 people to come and join your group, or you would be match made into a group.

Some PvP news that has me soured now:

-4v4 across all PvP game modes which is already known, Means RIP Crucible trains
-Heavy Ammo only allotted to the person who picks it up, which is good to stop 12 people having rockets and machine guns up at a point, but since your Sniper, Shotgun and Fusion are all heavy weapons now, only one person will have that any any given point. Which makes the game less "play how you want" like the first and more "play like Halo Reach" with one power weapon on map and abilities everywhere.
-Titan/Warlock skating got canned. So RIP interesting movement mechanics.

Overall looks like they're trying to get Halo players back, which is cool for Halo players, but not so cool for people who liked Destiny more. It's not like they're letting people maintain accuracy while they jump so it'll just be Halo but dumber.

As a Halo player none of that has me interested any more. There's still classes, twitch shooter combat, etc...

The way it was shown in the UI is you create a Raid/Nightfall party as either a "Seeker" or a "Guide" and MM appropriately.

The assumption being you can be a Guide with any # of players and Seeker with any # of players in your Fireteam and the system will figure it out and give you choices of who to join.
Ahh, so its not specifically about solo players? Because in their explanations they sure used the word solo a lot.

And the example they used several times was a raid group of five looking for a sixth. Sounds like it'd be fine with a group of four looking for a fifth and sixth too, but I didn't get the sense that it was really set up for an existing group of two or three to fill the rest of the slots for a raid.

As someone who liked halo 5 much more than destiny pvp, but had a lot of fun with it early on...this is definitely a good move...their attempts to fix the multi with destroying secondary ammo made the game not fun

I need to go back and look but it looked to me like a system designed for Fireteams to look for clans, not just individuals.

I think that was just their emphasis.

You cannot create a Guide group without a clan though it looks like. And as they mentioned there will be details and information about the clans you are joining for these. Beyond that doesn't seem to be any specific restrictions.

The important things to me will be how easy will these groups be to adjust on the fly. If I have someone leave during a raid, can I easily find a replacement without disrupting the activity?

Let's take a look at the UI for Guided Games for the Nightfall

bo4brgzypoy0qrk4hkw1.png

From this image it says Seeker is 1 Player. Don't know what it would be for guide, assuming 2?

We have no idea if it will be flexible for Raids.

Also something to keep in mind, game is still a ways out, they could receive feedback on the function and change it.

EDIT: Something else to gather for veteran Destiny players. Normal difficult Nightfall, with Guided Games as an option, and THEN a Heroic option with no Guided Games option.

Heroic for additional challenge and loot?

Man...no one can confirm 30 or 60 fps on consoles...have looked through all the usual suspects...even the confirmation we go from twiitter about 30 has gone squirrely now

Really strange and makes me wonder if ps4pro and scorpio will get different fps

The first extended cinematic they showed was set before Destiny 1 - setting up how the Guardians came to be, how they gathered, the building of the Last Safe City, etc. We got none of that in Destiny 1, and it's pretty clearly done to set the stage for players new to the universe.

Destiny got a big overhaul with Taken King, BTW. That re-set the foundation for its evolution for the following two years.

Yeah, I understood that part, but I don't get why they had to start the game by with (presumably) all the characters of the first game right away. Why not have the new player character start out as a trainee (which, seeing as no progress carries over, makes sense) then have the whoevers attack? You'd then travel across the galaxy meeting these new characters (or old characters for old players) one-by-one so they each have their own time to shine. In the followup to a game that many people were turned off of exactly because of its story that should have been what they were doing, it just doesn't make sense to go on about bringing new players in and then greet them with 5+ different personalities to care about alongside some unseen "speaker" you've got to save.

People aren't as stupid as you seem to think they are.

That's what I really want to know. Can you boot the guided player who joined if they're not playing/griefing/whatever? If so, is that completely under the control of the Clan team that created the group? Will we see the horror stories of "we went all the way to the boss then they kicked me right before loot!"?

Can I report or review the guides to say if they actually were willing to teach and help newer players along?

They didn't try to hype people saying they had one new strike. They just said regular strikes and Nightfall strikes are back, and they have one of the former for people to play today.

But I'm with you on wanting details. There are a lot of details not talked about - far more than they did talk about - that will get unpacked at other events and in press (GI cover story with details is inevitable). This was pretty typical of how Bungie reveals Destiny stuff - it was a top level overview, everything else comes later.

The aspect of the game that I am most interested in is world exploration. They talked about treasure maps, updated approach to public events, "dungeons" with bosses, "adventures", etc. as being a key pillar of the game. But they only talked about them - that's where my strongest interest lies right now.

Yup. The world exploration stuff is what has me salivating the most. The thought of "Dungeons' and adventures, and treasure maps. This will do more to keep me interested then strikes, raids, etc.

So I tried to make a bulleted list of all the stuff I noticed from the presentation. I stopped watching when the Blizzard guy came on, but I'm pretty sure there is a whole thread dedicated to that info:

Finally watched the full presentation. Overall, I liked what I saw. I expected a bit more of a step up in terms of the visuals, but I find it acceptable enough. There is definitely some improvements apparent such as with the lighting.

I really liked hearing about the guided games. As someone who tends to play solo most of the time, its good to hear there is an in-game feature to help find others to play with when I need to. Not sure if it won't be as toxic as what matchmaking would have brought, as they claimed.

In terms of gameplay, I'm interested in seeing more of these worlds they've claim offer plenty of exploration and actual side missions with these "adventures". Curious to see if it actually lives up to it and not end up as shallow as patrols. I welcome the changes to weapons though with the kinect, elemental, and then a power weapon. Does sound like it can bring more variety and I like what they did with making the likes of sniper rifles and fusion rifles into power weapons, as I feel they should be. Reminds me of good old Halo. Hopefully shotguns are power weapons as well.

Kind of disappointed with the lack of new enemies from what I've seen so far. I imagined the Cabal being similar to the Covenant in having a lot of different alien species within their empire. It looks like the same psions with just an added war dog enemy type. It also seems like the same four enemy factions as the last game. Was hoping for a new one, perhaps some rogue guardians turned bandits after the loss of the Last City and the Traveler. Felt like a good opportunity to pull that one off, but I suppose they don't want us shooting human enemies in a rated T game.

Regardless, they most certainly have my attention with this one. I definitely look forward to seeing more.

I agree they need to set things up well - it's a straight leap from the Destiny 1 story. They're trying to walk a line between letting new players get oriented and returning players following the story. Gonna be a tough act to follow, but to be honest- there wasn't a lot of forward narrative to Destiny 1. Just establishing the world.

But the flashback cinematic they showed was focused on Zavala, who then meets the Speaker at the camp. That looks like how they're going to introduce new players to the characters and their history so you're not diving into a big conversation scene not knowing who is who. Gonna be a juggling act.

HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHHHHHCOUGHHHH

You can FUCK right off Bungie.

It's 2017. Console FPS's are SIXTY FRAMES PER SECOND. It's enough to have a borederline claustrophobic FOV.

Get that through your thick skulls, FFS.

I was gonna be there day one in spite of all the bullshit with the first one if only you'd just made the right call.

But fuck that... I'm not gonna be another one of these Yes Men endorsing their "creative choices".

I'm not a goddamn masochist.

What a fucking letdown, dude...

30 seems to be most likely but I haven't seen it actually confirmed. Some are saying the consoles are at 30 at the event but they're also on 4k displays...

I'd wait for Bungie to make an announcement or on the record comment tbh.

Okay.... I'll keep the above in the chamber until then...

I feel the same way. I liked Destiny PVP for the pure chaos and dumb fun. But now they're trying to tone it down, and trying to turn it into a babby version of Halo.

That's absolute bullshit if they are still not allowing the "real" Nightfall to have this feature.

Hopefully when you hover over "Heroic" the options pop up.

I assume the "Guide" option will let you look for people if you already have people in your Fireteam so that shouldn't be an issue I guess.

So much for being solo friendly, Bungie. I once again see no point in not allowing guided games for heroics. Hopefully we're not seeing the full picture just yet and there is more info to disclose this.

Great post. Thanks for that.

Guided Play sounds too much like Silver Tanooki. Maybe they could have called it something closer to Mercenary or Freelance to make it sound less like the solo player has no clue what they're doing. Just an idea.

Anyway, I enjoyed Destiny 1, and played it for 100 hours, even though I didn't finish all the content. I think, if the game is at least as fun, with more focus on a good story, I might be tempted to jump in. I'm not really a big FPS fan, but I found the gameplay to be quite fun. I'll be watching to see how it all goes. I've got a number of friends who are hugely into Destiny so it would be easy for me to jump back into that crowd, I know they will all be there.

Should've kept hype in check, this was kind of an underwhelming showing. Clans sound cool, better campaign was to be expected and no shit it wasn't going to have you going to orbit every time you wanted to switch between activities. Zero word on trading or anything new to do in regards to the social spaces. 4v4 in everything PvP sounds like a nightmare for everyone who isn't running with a squad. No word on what you'll be doing with factions (or what factions you'll be hanging out with - they really ought to take some notes from WoW with PvP spaces and faction specific zones), and while they didn't show a whole lot of new abilities, most of those seemed to be built off from special weapons and stuff you already saw in D1, with a few quirks added.

Also while judging the graphical quality of just about any title from a compressed video is a bad habit, the game doesn't really look all that striking - especially for a 30 FPS title.

I have a feeling I'll end up picking up this one on PC and hating it for irrational reasons. I don't think this will have the magic of D1. While consoles aren't the best place to experience a first person shooter 100% of the time, there's something about playing Bungie titles with a pad that feels right. I can't imagine playing the game with MK&B feeling the same, without the rumble and guns having perks and stats specifically addressing aim assist. It's going to be a whole different game, and only time will tell if that'll be for the better. But then again, new content is always welcome - though I had wished they'd get out of Russia already with the Earth stuff (Vanilla + ROI was enough).

It also mentions "Nightfall Pass Required (10 remaining)". So I assume that will be some kind of currency used to keep people from trolling.

People aren't as stupid as you seem to think they are.

Great reply. Really changed my mind.

Yeah, the first cinematic was great. I just find it a shame that they didn't carry that philosophy over onto the campaign proper. As you say, it's a tough balancing act between making it accessible for newcomers and interesting for old-timers but it can be done; see The Witcher games, for example. I just don't see Bungie pulling it off here; at least Metal Gear Solid 4, which I'd say is one of the least newcomer-friendly games out there, started out with just Snake instead of Snake and every other major side character of the game. I just can't get interested in that, unfortunately, because I don't like having to read pages of lore to know who a character is instead of being shown who a character is.
