That's no different from the experience people in Japan/Korea have with the game. I don't see anything wrong with opening that option to markets in the rest of the world.



What you described is the fairy tale best case scenario. But I think it's a pipe dream at this point to expect the series to revamp itself like T3/T4. If it wasn't going to happen with this game following a Tag title I've lost any hope for that to happen in the future. The majority of the competitive/Arcade fanbase seem to want this iterative approach and I suppose Namco is content.

Maybe they wanted to be safe with the new engine and close out the story before moving on.

Really, I don't remember that at all. Arcade operators didn't like the quick release because of lost revenue, but I remember everyone else being really happy with it. The balance was better than T4, the port was full of content, and my experience with the competitive community at the time was that everyone was super positive.

That six month to one year gap between arcade and home seemed perfect. These huge long gaps we've seen since T6 definitely hurt with maintaining enthusiasm, imo.
 
Holy guacamole! lol Just over 2 weeks!!!

I think I'll order pizza that night; planning to start with arcade runs for King, Lili, and Josie, followed by the story mode and some treasure battles! Want to unlock gallery items asap... snap! I'm gonna be stuck on this game awhile! Gonna take time to get bodied online as well 😂

Next game is most likely Tekken X Street Fighter. Doubt it will be all that different than what we see with Eliza/Akuma in T7. But we probably have another 3 years until we witness Korea/Japan discover that game completely before we ever end up finally playing another 2 years after.

Yeah the loss of revenue pissed off arcade owners due to it releasing so quickly and since a great amount of their money comes to arcades, and the moment it releases on console the arcade profits dry up, that didn't work out well for either party. The game wasn't near as balanced as it could have been either, that's one reason why the T5.1 patch released shortly after the console version in arcades. It had a good amount of changes. Console players loved T5 due to what T5 was, it was a great game, I spent so much time with it myself. With that said, it wasn't as near polished as it could have been, the arcades took a hit and so on and so forth. There's a reason Harada said without the arcade model Tekken might not exist after 5. The business side of things just didn't workout for Bamco/Tekken Team's favor and even though the game was great, it could have been more polished.

After that things sort of switched for Bamco and Tekken as a whole. They took a risk releasing it so early. That's why since T6 things have been different with Tekken releases and why they take so long before they're released. These days T7 (before FR even) has generated the most profit a Tekken ever has in arcades so it's very successful. We'll see how it is for consoles.

Most of the anger is placed at the 2.5 year wait between arcade and console rather than the quality of the game itself.

But really if you got one choice then just watch videos, get info on both game and deciding yourself. Just a matter of why you love Tekken. If the thread's the only thing to turn you away then you have to think why you turned away at the comments. Either way no matter what it's a great year for fighters.

Yeah, this is still going to be a really good game. I'm frustrated about a couple things, and probably sound a little more negative than I really am, but I'm still really looking forward to it and will get it day 1.
 
Think I'm gonna try training with Feng this time, kind of an overlooked but solid character. I love Ling but I'm terrible with her and Asuka will remain my 'cheap' online back up. Not too big on the new characters, maybe scope Master Raven or Katarina. Not looking forward to seeing Akuma, I think he looks janky.

I used to really enjoy fighters back in the day with Tekken, VF, DOA, fighting was a huge genre everyone was playing. Somewhere along the way that sort of died out a bit. MK9 and 10 were the first fighting games in years I bought cause I love MK and the story mode was so cool.

That said I have always been a bigger fan of 3D fighters. And I am nostalgic over those days and am hoping this is the Tekken 3 of this gen or something. But I come here and it kind of killed that hope, that's all. Is the buzz big on Tekken 7 or did I mistake it? And yeah in the end I will still make my own decision but this thread was a buzz kill a bit. I expected a hype thread.

If you haven't played since T3 then you'll be fine. There's a lot that's changed about the series since then that you haven't experienced. You haven't seen the walled stages, customization, any kind of story/campaign modes, all the gameplay stuff will be brand new to you. If anything you should pick it up because most people have been playing these past few entries. With you it's a different story because the things we're used to you'll be getting extra usage out of it. Overall it's the most hyped Tekken since T5 in 2005. Some people are mostly negative due to how long it's taken to reach consoles but you know how those things go. People comment on the negative things, they rarely comment on the positives. The game comes with over 35 characters day 1, new gameplay mechanics, over 20 stages, Story Mode that even has side character stories, customization, Treasure Battle that's pretty much endless, Arcade Mode is still here, characters have endings (of course), Gallery has every opening/ending from each other Tekken game in case you missed those, gameplay is dope.

Overall if that's what you want then you're good. If your last Tekken was T3 then I'm pretty sure you'll be in a GREAT position. Most of us here were playing the previous eras Tekken so it's just from our pov rather than yours. With you man it's just a completely different story.

I'm super hyped. I've been able to play T7 on two occasions and i think it looks and plays amazing.

The wait had me down for quite a while, i think everyone's been there at some point. But now that it's finally over i can barely contain my excitement.

I'm so hyped i've been practicing on TTT2 for hours the past few days instead of finishing P5 or starting Dark Souls 3 complete like i had planned to.

As a person that hasnt really played a Tekken game heavily since T5/T3,(I skipped 6 and barely touched TTT2 when it released) it definitely feels like it is the T3 equivalent this gen to me gameplay wise. All the hype stuff that I loved from T3 when I was a kid like KO replays is there in different forms like slow-mo and rage drives/rage art.

T7 is gonna be the first Tekken I actually take seriously and it's precisely because it gives me those T3/T5 vibes that I honestly never felt from T6 or TTT2.
 
If anything I say people's negative comments show the passion of how much they love the series. Even though we haven't seen a new Tekken hit consoles since TTT2 people are really passionate about it. I also agree about the vibe of T7. It feels more like a T2/T3/T5. T6 was great but something just felt off about it to me.

Now we are talking. Yeah that's the vibe I got from the trailer. The gallery stuff is so cool too since I missed so much and I loved the endings in the PS1 days. Now I wish we had beach volleyball and a streets of rage mode but it's ok.

Man, thank Namco for the jukebox mode, lol. The new tracks are aggressive but lacking....melodic flair, I guess.

Yeah. There's a paid DLC mode coming in that we don't know about. Could be some "Super Force" mode but we'll see. Also if you get the PS4 version the game comes with Jukebox Mode where you can change any stage theme to any previous soundtrack theme. If a theme you don't like is playing, just change the stage theme out. Since you haven't played since 3 there's a massive catalog for you to experience if you get that one.

Not at all. They're not doing what they normally do. Normally, Tekken takes average 1 year to transition from arcades to console. Tekken 6 and Tekken 7 are the only exceptions. A "normal" transition is not 2.5 years long. If I had known in July 2014 when the game initially got revealed that Tekken 7 wouldn't be releasing for another three years from that date, I never would have hyped myself or followed this game.

Tekken 7 already feels old to me. I'll still buy it used because I anticipated it for so long but I definitely am not wasting time or energy getting myself excited for whatever the next Tekken title is until a console release in a reasonable time frame is imminent.

Not sure why you are being dog piled for only giving your honest and factual opinion but good for you. I'm in the same boat, I used to love Tekken back in the day, but after the shit they pulled with Tekken 7 I think I will wait for it on sale - because after all it has been technically out for a few years now.

Yeah, that is pretty curious. That statement had me pumped, and I guess all of us thought that the regular modes would be in.

What they really need to do is let us know exactly what's going to be in the DLC. Surprises are fine when we're talking about above and beyond, but we're at a point where my boy Lei may not even be in the game. Is Team Battle a DLC mode? Or something I won't care about? So I need some reassurance from Harada about the content down the line, because I'm not far off from cancelling my pre-order until I find out what's what.

The wait isn't normal, no. I've voiced my issues with that. I've also accepted it as I understand why (new engine etc).

But I was more defending that this has been their release pattern since the beginning so how can they go from best to worst developer? (In this regard. I have my issues with their design philosophies but this isn't about that since some here would take the same exact game as long as they got it at the same time).

Unless we're talking about the publishing side that didn't fund them enough, gave them a strict timeline which forced a shoddy release (of which they relied on for the arcade revenue to fix the game). Then I agree.

I think Lei, Anna, Julia and other classics will be in the game whether secret characters hidden in the game or be released later on for free since TTT2 had characters be released that way. The DLC though? Man, idk why but I think it'll be some mini-game like mode with probably stuff we're used to like Ball and Bowling and Force hell I wouldn't be surprised to see if it's all the previous modes AND Super Scenario Mode just for the hell of it. Like "Mishima Kingdom" or "Mishima Funland" or something with all the mini-games and other modes in there. I wouldn't be surprised if Bamco told Harada and the rest to work on everything else and then add those in as the DLC. All we know is that it's a $10 DLC mode and if it's that expensive, it's gotta be serious.10 bucks for DLC isn't cheap.
 
I look at it in a different light , tekken 7 the one that we are getting has released in July last year in form of FR. Before that the vanilla t7 as was stated numerous times has been in a beta form, not finalised graphics, character design , balance , system, arcade online play , they were mostly testing out stuff and looking for feedback. Yes you had to pay to play the beta but that's a different issue and a bit ridiculous imo. So if they didn't charge for vanilla, folk would just complain that it was in beta for tooo long. Not sure of ins and outs of the budget they had , maybe that was their way of getting it in releasing an unfinished product that they charge for, so they can make the money to give us FR , as we know tag 2 didn't sell well. I think the reason we haven't heard anything about TXSF is that higher ups in the company might think that tekken is not profitable anymore , so everyone knows what that means. So we should all prove them wrong and get new not used copies.
Game is coming in two weeks we have been waiting a while for it and instead of being excited, some here just get in to pointless discussions that already happened iirc about a year ago.
 
Is there really a (livestream) embargo on T7? When is it lifting and wtf is the point when the arcade version dropped 2 years ago????
 
My excitement grows daily.

It's felt like a lifetime since I've played Tekken. 2011 really is such a long time ago without a further console release.

I still want to know why Nina is in that stupid wedding dress.

Having gotten back into wrestling over the last year (thanks Shinsuke Nakamura), I'm kind of intrigued by King as of late.

I'm wondering if I should even bother as someone who is more than casual but less than competitive. I just like messing around, not proving to master the systems.

Tekken is so much fun as a casual player.
I play Tag 2 regularly with my friends and they don't have a clue what they're mostly doing and we're still having a blast.

Don't worry about being a beginner, that's completely normal and there are many people like you.

I even would consider myself as a Tekken beginner.

I would highly recommend to at least get the game for the singleplayer experience and if you're interested play against other beginners.

Also that NJPW King outfit is just amazing!

I'm not trying to be rude as I appreciate your response, but I see where you misread my comment. I'm "more than casual", not "more of a casual".

My problem is I know the game too well for my local group who don't care to play with me and I don't take the time to get myself on par with more competitive folks online. So I'm wondering why I was even questioning learning another character lol.

Edit: I've been wondering if that outfit is coming stateside.

I thought this was already released and labeled "the intro" which bugged me because it's more like a collection of edits from story mode cutscenes than a traditional intro. So hopefully it isn't the intro and is indeed just a trailer.
 
13 days to do can't wait for this, i need some long break from SFV and I'm fighting my urge to get Injustice 2 just so i can dedicate my time to Tekken 7 once it's out :).

The price of injustice 2 is enough to keep me waiting. $100 for the complete edition? No thanks. I'll stick to $40 for gg rev ver2 and ~$60 for tekken 7 deluxe. Two superior games for the price of one decent, but not great game.
 
Just pre-ordered my deluxe edition on Amazon Germany. Can't believe we get 2 bucks off for pre-ordering. Good gracious, you are losing so much money, Amazon.
