Heavily disagree. They've already done a great job in terms of services/value. Really the only thing lacking right now is OG Xbox BC and... bringing said services to PC. ( which doesn't matter if you're an Xbox owner )

They. must. deliver. on. software.

From a bottom line perspective, G0SU is right. Investment in the platform drives engagement and revenue opportunities for the software that is available for the platform.

Of course, none of that impedes Studios' job of delivering good software. Studios has that job, and the platform group will continue to make investments in the new social features and services.

I fully expect this conference to feature fewer games than what you typically see at a Microsoft show (like 15-18) but each will be given a lot more time to shine. Substantial gameplay demonstrations and info dumps of Crackdown, State of Decay, Sea of Thieves and Forza along with Scorpio details will in all likelihood probably be more than half of the show.

This is probably the most I've ever anticipated a Microsoft E3 conference. Going it, it doesn't feel like we should be all that optimistic but the show could play out in any number of ways and surprise the hell out of us. Very, very interesting time for the Xbox brand. Though even if this is a dull show, I would still give them through next year's E3 to fully gauge their direction.

Another option could be a Gears RPG. With 4, the gears world has developed further, now it even has factions, so a RPG could help to present that extended world.
Obsidian was hiring for an: "Unannounced 3rd Action RPG (next-gen console)", so that could be.
I suppose to lever up Obsidian's jankiness, Coalition should handle the shooting aspect

Doubt Obsidian will ever work for MS again after their cancelled 'Stormlands' IP.

True.

But I believe this just is not the main focus for them anymore. Of course they bring 3-4 exclusive AAA games a year, but they don't make the same investment as Sony does.

They want to build the "best" ecosystem so 3rd party develeopers come to them and deliver the games. This is actually what they are really good at.

1)it wasn't publicly announced

It also wasn't cancelled. Or even a game. It was rejected at the final greenlight meeting, meaning it was still a pitch (a concept document, maybe with a very rough early gameplay prototype at best) that they failed to secure a publishing contract for (MS were clearly considering it, since they evidently had multiple meetings regarding it, but the final pitch failed to convince them).

They could still have shopped it around to other publishers at that point (if they hadn't already), but since it clearly never got off the ground, apparently no-one else was convinced by the pitch either.

How reliable is Jez Corden?

He had an article basically saying to not expect future exclusives to be announced at this E3. Seems the focus will be on the already revealed games and how Scorpio is best system for 3rd party games.

Makes sense I guess. MS seem to be moving away from CGI trailers of games that at times hadn't even started development.

The Fallout 4 method works best for me, reveal a game when it is close to completion and less than a year from release.

For this year I expect to see a heavy focus on games that will be out by March 2018 at the latest with maybe a tease for a couple of holiday 2018 titles.

its a pretty safe bet.

We haven't seen Crackdown 3 since 2015.
Haven't seen State of Decay 2 gameplay
Haven't seen Forza 7
Sea of Thieves has a E3 demo

With that said I still expect there to be some 2018 games shown. You can't do 6 months from announce to release for every game.

How likely it is for another event from MS to take place this October/November? I reckon there won't be a Gamescom stage show, so it would be nice to have something else. Maybe a Scorpio launch event and they include Ashen, Ori 2 and a new game
Fable
if they are still not ready for this E3 but close.

Exactly. That would be crazy of MS to do from now on. Only show games where they are sure of will be in people's hands this year. That would mean we won't get to see their future projects at all. So if they don't have a Gamescom and I expect they won't, we will hear about their new stuff at E3 2018? Nah. If they mean like Scalebound and Crackdown, one being announced too early with that CG trailer and the other where we still haven't seen actual proper gameplay of.... then yes I agree.

But a new game that they can show a nice gameplay demo of, bring it on. Don't hold that back because if you do your show will be boring as hell.

Hoping the full rundown doesn't leak this year. That took a tonne of hype away when we had a completely accurate rundown of their show. Fingers crossed they're on full lockdown this year.

I think it happened with the E3 where Gears 4 was shown for the first time right? It leaked a few minutes before the show started.

Yeah, hoping nothing gets out. Out of the known titles, I'm most excited for Crackdown3. I was one of the few who actually bought the original for its own merits, rather than the Halo 3 beta access. I'm glad they've gone back to taking down gangs as well for the SP mode, the mutants of CD2 got boring after a while. Can't wait to see what the city will look like either!

Yeah, I prefer no leaks because it makes the events more interesting and potentially shocking.

CD3 is high on my list. I know what it is like, in terms of gameplay but I cannot wait to see what else they add to flesh out the experience.

SoT looks great but I want to see how much added depth there is.

Same with SoD2. Expecting a refinement of the first game, with no real shocks but I am hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

I am sure Forza will look amazing but it's not my thing.

Hoping they rebirth some OG Xbox games as well.

I can't remember the particular year, but for one MS conference someone leaked everything that was going to show and in the correct order as well. About 20 minutes in everyone clocked on that it was true and that was the end of that, didn't bother watching past the first part.

Nope. Gears 4 was shown first time in 2015.

Last year was the rundown leakathon, which was the 2nd time Gears 4 was shown.

What I'm gonna do is stay away here a day before E3 happens. Hopefully I won't fail and that curiosity gets the best of me. We'll see.

Because even if we don't expect it at all, let's say for example they have a big new surprise game. If shit has leaked we'll already know what it is as soon as they start talking about it. That's a shame.

Well I believe the developer has a much bigger budget this time around and a new engine as well? That should hopefully mean it looks great and will run great unlike the first one. Hopefully they have done things to improve gameplay too and remove repetition as much as possible.

Yeah, I'm pretty much in the same line of thinking as you with regards to the other games. Forza Horizon will always be a day one purchase, but I can only stomach 1 FM game for a few years. If they were to create a compelling career mode in FM7, I'd likely give it a chance.

If it suddenly turned into a PGR rebirth, I would be all over it!

Forza and Horizon make a good combo but unless new Horizon goes city, I think there is still room for a street racing game like PGR.

Man, if Forza went on a 3 year cycle in order to make room for PGR I would cry tears of joy for weeks. I think each game would benefit from the extra dev time, and PGR would scratch an itch that no other game can.

There's nothing like those cone challenges, kudos challenges, and passing challenges mixed in with some style-based urban circuit racing through real urban locations.

A sequel for this and I dont want anything else .

Xbox needs a cart racer by rare and to bring back something like 1 vs 100 to show why they are the best online experience. Cartoon halo and gears characters would be awesome.

Or an all-star fighting game (excluding killer instinct's guest characters). In reality, Phil Spencer is always praising Nintendo and how much he loves their ips. I can see them having a game that is the cartoony route. Oh wait, the 10/10 game Sea of Thieves!

For real though, it would be nice to get a kart racer type game. Paladins copied Overwatch and it's successful, so maybe Microsoft should copy Nintendo again like how they wanted motion controls ;).

E3 conferences for better or worse have become a battle of surprises. People want big announcements they weren't expecting at the conferences. MS has to bring those, even if games aren't coming out for two years.

Agreed! Back in the MSR days, it's was just so cool to burn around real cities. PGR appeared and took it to a whole new level, even if i think PGR2 is my favourite. Just something about driving normal cars around streets hah. Supercar stuff gets boring fast for me.

Yes an adventure cart racer with Rare IPs or in the world of Minecraft (with all the texture packs Minecraft has we can have characters from Halo, Rare etc.)

Would love Cartoon Halo and Xbox Live Primetime comeback ! Maybe Mixer can host something like 1vs100 who knows ...

I think as long as people take it a specific thread it should be OK. But I don't need to be scrolling through 30 posts of the same picture when trying to discuss things.

Yeah if it can be quarantined off then fine otherwise they make threads completely unreadable especially on mobile and the quality of discussion goes down the toilet.

I think you can probably increase your chances of being surprised by 100% by just avoiding GAF on the day of the conference until the show starts. On the last day there's more and more people getting in the loop so leaks are often inevitable at that point.

IMO the actual conferences actually should lean into hype reveals.

You can watch hours of footage for hundreds of different games online during E3 week anyway.

Agreed, but it seems MS is not going to do that. Unless I guess the game is guaranteed to come out next year maybe. Like State of Decay 2 was announced last year at E3 and releasing this year. Gonna be really odd if they end the show and we haven't had one new game announcement. They would be breaking a tradition with that actually, not good.

So being quiet for so long for a show like that? Can we have a link to this article?

I think we can probably guess about 80% of the content on MS, Sony and Nintendo's conferences, but there's still bound to be a couple of surprises on each one.

They. must. deliver. on. software.

I know they must deliver on software, but this year they are limited in marketing share and we already know 80% of their exclusive line up. Even phil has played it down saying there isnt some Ace in his pack pocket, regarding, exclusive AAA game.

This is why i mention they need to push where their strengths are and make the Xbox Ecosystem seem more appealing to those on the fence.

Next year will be the year they PUSH on software. This year is about Scorpio, they said it before and plenty of times in interviews. Let us now close our eyes and make up a song that we want to hear when reality is right there in front of us.

This will be a very safe and predictable conference. We'll get maybe one or two surprises at the most.

I'm excited to see some of these games demoed but at the same time it really is unfortunate we probably won't get much or any big news.

Yes I think the focus will be on the 3 big games they have coming this holiday. Plus the usual segments of 3rd party, Indie, Hardware, System updates etc. Then maybe one surprise or two.

That is a 90 minute show right there. It's unrealistic to expect much more than that.

If that's the case then I'm done with them, no hyperbole or trolling, people can check my gamer tag if they like, I've spent a lot of money on them over the years but enough is enough. If you don't like what they are doing then it comes to a point where you simply take that money elsewhere for your enjoyment.

Why?

Those are predictions but I think jez is pretty reputable. In any event I think of you feel you aren't getting your money's worth you should take it elsewhere.

I'm still a big fan of Forza, Gears and Halo so I'm alright for the time being. Some good stuff is coming this year but again, if this isn't your type of stuff, it's best to move on. I don't see Microsoft changing anytime soon in terms of game output.
